Target is here! My list of US shopping stops keep getting shorter and shorter as my fave retailers all migrate North. I hit up the Target in Millwoods Town Centre and although it was no American Target, I was definitely satisfied with my Canadian Target experience. The clothing section was meh, nothing special. Shoes were alright, I found a cute pair of nude heels for under $ 30. The home section and kitchen wares were by far the shining stars of Target, Canada version. I ended up leaving with a cart filled with new throw pillows and blankets for my couches, fun coloured towels for the bathroom, cute mirrors and fun little kitchen gadgets. I foresee a long, expensive relationship between Target and I. And I am sure that the hype will wear off, but don’t be afraid of the super long lines — the cashiers were awesome when I was there. The line was ridiculously long and yet I was through in under 10 minutes. And extra points because all the Targets have a Starbucks inside them. You can grab a coffee and then browse!

This is the Target experience we have all been waiting for. I will admit I am a hardcore Target fan and have very high expectations(which were so not met by the Bonnie Doon location). So this location finally made me feel like Target in Canada might actually work. Clearly the size of the store is a big determining factor and this one is big enough to get most of the things Canadians love Target for. Still missing some of the house brands in cosmetics and housewares, but there is lots to love. The adult clothing sections are big and have lots of choices. There were actually more than 40 different choices for men’s board shorts(which may indicate a lack of understanding of the local climate). The boys department was a little disappointing as Target is usually the one place that actually stocked interesting boys clothes. But women’s and girls’ wear was very good. But not as many designer lines as I would have hoped for. Shoes OK. There is a very nice outdoor section with some unusual choices for patio furniture. Good selection of kitchenware — this is the place to go for reasonably priced gadgets. Bedding was a small section with a good mix. Electronics was much better than I had expected. Lots of Apple and Xbox accessories. Best thing about this store is that they have the shopping cart escalators I had seen in California. They allow you to take your cart up and down and not have to use the elevator. So smart.
