Recently found this little gem. Went in and tried the hot and sour seafood soup and have now had it 3 times in the last two weeks! I love the beef and shrimp that are in this soup, they taste so fresh. I am obsessed with this soup. We like to have our soup to eat at home and are amazed how good it tastes, the broth is super hot due to the way it’s packaged which is always a problem with other take outs. So glad we found this place!

Phở & Bun is very much a small, family run business. The walls are decorated with pictures of the owners/staff, and the décor is very home-y. Every time I come here I vaguely feel like I’m intruding at someone’s house for dinner. The service is very minimal. You get in, you get seated, they take your order, bring your food, done. Don’t expect refills on drinks and if you need something, you’re going to have to flag someone down. That being said, the food is VERY fast to come out. Within 2 minutes of ordering, my salad rolls were out. 5 minutes after that, my phở came. Super, super quick! The food itself is pretty good. Phở broth is flavourful and there are a whole bunch of options available. I took stars off because of the pricing and portions. The food here is a lot pricier than other Vietnamese places around the city, with smaller portions of food. $ 12 for the bowl of House Phở, which left me still hungry after eating all of it and I am usually stuffed to the max ¾ of the way through a bowl of phở. Ultimately, it fills a niche in the very sparse selection of restaurants in the Capilano/Holyrood area, but it’s not worth seeking out as a place to eat.

Used to come here all the time when I lived in the neighborhood. Not as good value as other restaurants for Phở but tastes just as well. I was however really disappointed with the take out service… Is it too much to have utensils put in or charge extra if you need. Phở is not exactly a finger food. I found out they include them for lunch, but not dinner? Please at least ask your customers if they require them. Thank you

Decent food, friendly staff(although owner’s kids look like they hate being there.) Good takeout.

This was my first visit to this restaurant. There is an abundance of parking and the spot is easy to get too. We arrived around 1130 and it was quiet, but then quickly became a full house. The décor is interesting and NDP themed with lots of orange and green. There are ALOT of menu items to choose from. The tea is not bad. Our service was not bad and gave us some time to wait for the final member if our party and to look through the menu. I decided to order some spring rolls, which were warm and seemed fresh. The green onion cakes were also tasty and warm. My beef and broccoli dish was also pretty good. For some reason we did not have any cutlery at the table and so we had to ask for that. Otherwise, the experience was pleasant. Our food came out quickly, service was ok, and there were no real hiccups. Nice neighborhood restaurant with decent prices.

I have been a regular here for two years. The service has always been horrible but the food is amazing so I continue to come back. The bad service I have inquired has been from finding hair in my food and the owners saying it was mine while swinging it over my moms food. Being told I wasn’t allowed to order something due to waisting in the past and my last straw with this place was asking if I could I could order and the owner telling me his employs know what they are doing I told them they have horrible customer service his response was«we don’t care about the service our food is good and people come back because that«I find it horrible that places can stay in business when they treat the customers that keep them going like an inconvenience.

Great food and quick service! Had the hot and sour seafood soup. Had lots of flavour and good portion sizes. Would definitely come here again.

Stopped by for a semi-quick dinner, one of my favorites was definitely the Vietnamese coffee, the food was really good, hot and fresh and served with a smile. It’s nice to have such a local and convenient Vietnamese restaurant.

The first 2 visits to this restaurant I found the food ok and nothing special. The service was minimal and not particularly pleasant. On the plus side the food was always piping hot but never great. It was passable as it was a quick place to grab lunch. Today, on my third and FINAL visit, I bought my friend with her 3 children who were very well behaved. One of the kids was holding the menu and the old guy came and snatched it out of his hands and told him«it’s not a toy.» Not cool, old guy. Obviously kids aren’t welcome or wanted so I left and will never return. I’m sure there are a hundred perfectly average Phở places around.

I started with green onion cakes and they were disappointing. I like light and fluffy cakes and these were greasy and overcooked to the point that they were dark brown and hard on the outside. However, the sauce they were served with was pretty tasty so I was able to salvage them with a nice coating of sauce. Next, I had a #36, which is grilled chicken and shrimp on rice. It came with three shrimp on a skewer and they were really tasty. The chicken was pretty flavorful too. Portion size was decent. I’d order it again if I came back. Overall, I think it was a pretty average experience.

Struggling between a 2 and 3 star for this place. It’s been on my phở radar for a long time now and I checked it out with my husband and another couple last night. When I opened the menu I was surprised at the prices for phở compared to other neighbourhood phở joints I frequent. $ 9.50-$ 10.50 for a bowl. I ordered a meatball and brisket phở. I was disappointed that the hefty price tag did not accompany a hefty bowl of soup. It was similar to a small at other restaurants, and they only had one size here. The taste was good, but there was hardly any meat and I was still hungry afterwards. We all ordered green onion cakes to start and found them a little too greasy and crispy. The sauce that came with them was nice. Service was ok. Our waitress was nice but got really confused when we were ordering. Seems like the kitchen guys brought out our food and they were pretty smiley dudes. Friend asked for some more lemon sauce and a coke and they only brought the sauce, so he had to flag them down for the drink. The tables are pretty close together. Another party was seated next to us and I felt like I had to keep my voice down if I didn’t want them to listen in to my conversation. Boy, is it ever orange in there! 2.5.

Repulsed. I ate here a couple years back and was disappointed with the prices for the meagre portions and tame flavours. I decided to give it another shot today while running errands in my neighbourhood. The service was polite and efficient. I ordered 3 spring rolls which arrived hot and in a timely manner. The sauce was vinegary and plain — no carrot shavings or spices. My iced Vietnamese coffee was brought in a well maintained press and brewed on my table. It was good. The soup, as expected, came in a very small portion. For $ 10, the broth was bland, the meat portions were small and soggy ad the tendon was encrusted with hair. That’s right. Hair. Animal hair, apparently. About 3/8″ long, stuck all over the tendon and floating in the bowl.(Of course I discover this AFTER eating more than half of it) not one or two hairs. Many many many many hairs. «Encrusted» in hair. The server came over and asked if there was a problem with my soup after seeing the horror on my face as I examined the bowl’s remaining contents. He nodded knowingly and explained that it had hair on it because its tendon. It’s common. Huh?! I explained to him that this was anatomically impossible and completely gross. He argued that its common for tendon to be covered in hair and I argued that I eat phở all over the city — with tendon — and have never experienced so much as a piece of lint on my tendon. *vom* Graciously, he voided the soup off my bill… I won’t be coming back.

Though I have lived within walking distance from this gem for 15 years, I have only started eating at Phở and Bun in the last few months. So the saying goes, better late than never! Holy man, the food here is amazing! I can’t compare my experiences to years past like other Unilocalers, but for newbie, I have had great service and food all the times I have been. I’m no Phở connoisseur, but I’ve had bad Phở and good Phở. This is definitely the good. The Bun(which is a vermicelli bowl) is just as tasty and is made even better with their delicious spring rolls. Only critique? They make their bubble tea from powder and the Tapioca had the texture of raisins. Whatever, just means I’ll have tea/water with my meals instead. Make your way out here! Phở and Bun won’t disappoint.

Our Phở experience here was fantastic! Probably now our #1 for quality of food and taste, and we are both Phở lovers. The place is clean, set up well, with such cute plates and tabletop accoutrements like the hot sauce dish and toothpick jar with the business name on it — it’s obvious a lot of pride and love has gone into this family-run business. Having grown up around this neighbourhood and frequented the last few restaurant incarnations of this strip mall, I regret not having tried Phở & Bun sooner! Both our Phở had great broth, really distinct flavours of lemongrass, star anise, black cardamom — homemade and delicious. Mine was spicy(hue style I think) with vermicelli, beef shank and pork, accented with shrimp paste and lemongrass. A perfect balance of both was achieved; I find either can be overwhelming but particularly shrimp paste must be used judiciously. I enjoyed it tremendously and didn’t need to add extra spice to it, which is really saying something. My BF, seeking comfort food, chose the simple chicken broth phở, which was delicious in it’s simplicity. The meat portions in the phở were very genereous and of high quality, not fatty or tough. Very filling phở indeed! I also had one of the best fluffy-style(versus pancake style — I hope you know what I mean) green onion cakes I’ve ever had, not at all greasy, really puffy and perfectly cooked. We both had bubble tea(one milk, one tea latte), which was average in flavour but well blended and generous. The boba were a bit chewy. Not bad, just above mall quality perhaps, but far from the standard of our favourite bubble tea joint. As others have noted the owner Tina is a grouch, she barely acknowledges you and is not very engaged in the role of customer service despite acting as a server. She all but ignored us after we made our orders, and we had to go up to ask for to-go packages(interrupting her in the middle of making a personal phone call on speaker phone). She’s so stand-offish that one gets the impression she doesn’t speak english — no way, her english is perfect, she’s just all business I think(check out the large family portrait on the back wall — one gets the idea of the temperments of the different members of the family!). Anyhow, a chef came out early on to clean up plates that Tina apparently was in no hurry to do so herself despite there being only 3 tables occupied, and he smiled and acknowledged us, as did other folks who dropped off dishes at our table. So never mind the potential for a chilly reception, the food is just excellent. I can’t wait to come back and try some Bun!

My husband and I used to frequent Phở and Bun when we lived nearby, but we haven’t been there in about a year. It perfectly suited our Friday night Phở needs, and typically was packed whenever we went. We generally ordered spring rolls and various combinations of chicken– and beef-based phở, but we were rewarded when we branched out and tried different dishes. The family who owns/runs the place was always friendly and helpful, too. It’s a solid restaurant, but we press on to find the best phở in Edmonton …

Just down the road from house I came across this place. The staff is fantastic family owned family run. The food is really good too. Everytime I go I get the War Wonton Soup and well its the best the city has the offer… huge dumplings and shrimp. The rice is quite addicting too. The portions are your avergae sizes and prices compete with all. I cant recall but they are closed one random day that seems kinda off. I am moving but I will make the drive back here for my next oriental style dish craving.

Phở and Bun is the kind of neighbourhood restaurant I usually love. However after 2 separate visits about a year apart, I have to say both meals suffered from a distinct lack of flavour. The first visit included more typical asian takeout items, and our group of 3 all found our selections on the bland side. The second time I decided to try the Phở, based on reviews. It fared the same as the takeout. I was hoping for a rich, flavourful broth, but the liquid was to broth as vitamin water is to juice… which is to say its closer to water than what its supposed to be. Granted, I don’t profess to be an expert on the intricacies of a good Phở, but I’m thinking delicious broth is paramount. And that is exactly where this one falters.

Mmm this is one of Edmonton’s best kept secrets! A cozy, clean and family run business that is excellent for takeout and to sit down. It may look like a hole in the wall but it is definitely not. I highly recommend the War Wonton soup! Tasty broth filled with massive dumplings huge shrimps and thick slices of beef with some veggies, the perfect comfort food for a chilly Edmonton day. The shrimp fried rice is the probably the best rice I have ever had, sometimes I get cravings for it and must have it! nom nom nom… The décor is simple and eclectic with pictures of foreign places and delicious food. This place is definitely nothing fancy or 5 star but it is great for just hanging out or taking a date for good food at a very good price. There is also tons of parking so that is never a problem. The only complaint I have is when dealing with the owners teenage kids who also work there, who can sometimes be slightly rude and make you feel rushed. At one time my boyfriend was calling in an order for pickup and the kid taking the order was putting his hand over the phone and saying«I can’t understand this guy! What is he saying? OMG!», I think he thought we couldn’t hear him ha ha ha. Check it out, you will not be disappointed, they also have many signature dishes such as the peach shrimp, which are excellent!
