If you’re looking for a break from big box and chain eateries in the northeast and you would like some good food and great service, you might want to check out Maurya Palace. It’s tucked away in a little strip mall just off Victoria Trail– it’s easy to miss if you’re not looking for it. However, once you open the front door, you are welcomed to a friendly, warm and comforting environment with all the wonderful aromas and ambiance you would expect in any East Indian restaurant. The service is exceptional– very personal, friendly, fast and sincere. The food is simple but bursting with flavour. The buffet could have a few more items but what choices they do have are really quite enough to please many tastes. My favourites of course are the butter chicken and the aloo gobi. Lots of rich flavour. And then there’s the naan bread… which could easily be a meal unto itself. Your server will quickly bring more if it looks like your basket is getting empty. Finally, the desserts are just right. The Gulabl jamun and the kheer along with a few slices of honeydew or strawberry, always finish off the meal perfectly. We like to go about once a month and have never been disappointed.

Very decent Indian cuisine; good butter chicken. Chefs are approachable if you need hot rotis or naans, servers are no longer indifferent. Beer is overpriced.

It’s now called Moksha, but it remains the best kept secret in edmonton: warm service, incredible variety, great value(by YEG standards). My week is not complete without a visit here.

Much to my disappointment, this restaurant has now changed hands. They have decided to go for an all-buffet set-up(a la New Asian Village) which is a shame, as many of their best tasting items were from the menu. The food isn’t nearly as good as it used to be, nor is the service. It’s heartbreaking to see a restaurant that has been so good for so long decide they need to change. If you were used to coming here to get your real Indian food fix, I’m sorry to say you’ll probably now have to go elsewhere.

My brother doesn’t seem to feed himself properly, so whenever we go out to eat, he stuffs himself like there is no tomorrow. I took him to Maurya Palace for the lunch buffet not that long ago, and both of us left very, very happy. The selections range from butter chicken to dhal to curry goat and everything in between, and they bring fresh hot naan to your table. It was just spicy enough to make me sniffle a little(my spice litmus test) and not so spicy that I couldn’t taste anything other than the burn. Our waiter was considerate and not in your face, and at $ 12.95 a pop we really felt like we got our money’s worth. Lovely interior too. If my brother walks away happy and full, I know it was a good buffet.

I start to drool just thinking of Maurya Palace. I love Indian food and I love butter chicken. I have eaten butter chicken all over the city and I still maintain that Maurya Palace has THE best butter chicken in the city. If you love butter chicken, you have to try it from here. The outside of Maurya is unimpressive; it’s tucked away in the corner of a strip mall so it’s hard to see from the street. But once you head inside, it is beautiful. Everything is traditional. The ambience is great — low lighting, traditional music and art. .. I love it. The naan bread is also to die for. I always order extra so I can snack on it for the next few days. I eat at Maurya about once every two months(that’s when my butter chicken addiction becomes too much to suppress). I often get takeout because it’s so convenient. The buffets at Maurya are a little small for my liking. I like everything on the buffet, which is great, but I also love to try new things so I would like more selection. But other than that, delicious!
