Specialties
Hardcore Bikes is a full-service bike shop. We sell new and used bikes, we have a great selection of parts, accessories, clothing, shoes, helmets and other bikes stuff – including a dedicated Women’s section. We have excellent mechanics and can service your bike faster and better (and cheaper) than the big guys. We have Mountain, Road, Commuter and Cyclocross bikes – including a good selection of Women’s-specific bikes. Our bike lines are Trek, Marin, Niner, Ibis, Pivot, Yeti, Turner, BH and Knolly. We are known as a technical, high-end shop but we also service and sell a lot of «regular» bikes. We believe it doesn’t matter how much your bike cost, if you enjoy riding it, it’s a good bike! Our staff ride and race what we sell and we have an active riding club. Check us out – your friendly neighbourhood bike shop in Old Strathcona since 1989.
History
Established in 1989.
The Hardcore Mountain Bike Store grew out of the custom frame-building Shop, Moulden Bicycle Works. Originally located in a converted sausage factory in the alley south of Whyte Avenue just off 101 Street, we were the first dedicated mountain bike shop in the city and grew rapidly so that in 1992 we moved to the current location. We have since truncated the name to Hardcore Bikes and have long ago included Road and Commuter bikes as well as Mountain Bikes into our selection. In 2003, the frame builder retired but Hardcore Bikes continued on and despite growth over the years, is still the same enthusiast-run, neighbourhood shop.
Meet the Business Owner
Mark R.
Business Owner
I was the first employee hired at Hardcore Bikes back when it was still a frame shop in 1988. Back then I was a road racer and student. When pro bike racer didn’t work out I bought the shop and have owned the business since 1997. I believe in «walking the walk» and am still an avid bike racer on the road, mountain bike and cyclocross. I race at the provincial, national and international level in my age group, and despite being a mid-packer, still love to ride and race my bike. I have taken the Barnett’s bike mechanics course and train my staff in that system which is, in a nutshell, «measure, don’t guess.»
