FC Edmonton

Edmonton’s very own professional soccer (err… Football) club!
FC Edmonton (or the Eddies) play in the NASL (division 2 soccer in North America). And while no one will mistake the league for being the Premier League in England, the players are very good. And perhaps more importantly they are clearly playing for the love of the game.
The team plays in Clarke Stadium which the team (along with the city) have spent quite a bit of time renovating to help the team out including adding new bleachers on the east side.
If you want to really get into the spirit you can sit in section 107 which is the supporters section. Just be prepared to stand and cheer all game long!
Overall well worth going to for a fun afternoon/​evening of soccer. At $ 20 tickets are priced just right.

First time attending a professional soccer game ever! I was seriously impressed by the quality of the players of FC Edmonton.
Edmonton folks, don’t just attend Eskimos games! AND this team has good stats.
Ladies forget CFL-​NHL. FC Edmonton has action, good sportsmanship, and VERY hot athletes!

I went to my first FC game and well… It was fun, it was fierce and it was foote (ball!).
In the City Of Champions we are definitely a little obsessed with our sports teams but somehow soccer is little talked about. With the popularity of the Euro, Olympic and World Cup soccer increasing in North America, I really feel that the FC are destined to really take off. They play in the small but quaint Clark Stadium or Foote Field and I have to say, they pack a lot of fun into this tiny space! There was a bouncy house for the little little kids, Mac’s Froster mobile team, Adidas Shoe showcase, packed stands, beer bars and even drum circles in the stands. The fans that do go, go hard. They have chants, songs, slogans and all sorts of SWAG! The crowd is decked out in the colours and fatigues of the Boys in Black & Blue and show their pride in them. Sitting in the stands, corona in hand, late August Sun shining down, it was easy to get caught up in the moment and have an absolute blast!

So I went to the first regular season FC Edmonton game thanks to one of my friends. They faced off against Tampa Bay. Other than mosquitos biting me, I am still not happy having games at Foote Field. The football lines confuse the heck out of me. Although the product on the field is what counts.
They are a very good team for a first year squad in D2. Exciting to watch that’s for sure. Other than the one man cheering squad sitting behind the benches, I think it’s a pretty knowledgable crowd. I know that the Supporters Group is starting to get involved in some games which is a good sign. I wasn’t at the game where I heard streamers came out.
Edmonton is a good soccer city. Shame that after Montréal moves to MLS next season, their Canadian rivals will be Ottawa. But one thing is for sure, I have been pushing people to support local football. Edmontonians, you do the same!

I, for one, am very happy about FC Edmonton, Edmonton’s NASL team. I was able to go to a few of their games in the summer of 2010 as part of their exhibition season. I’ll admit their marketing wasn’t really up to par at that time — a lot of people didn’t even know we had a soccer team at that time! Now that their first regular season has begun, I’ve been noticing a lot more billboards around town.
Home games are held at Foote Field, and sometimes they will have bigger games at Commonwealth Stadium (Colo Colo last year, Toronto FC this year). Foote Field is just off of the LRT route, and there is also quite a bit of parking, so I don’t have a problem with this location at all. It will be nice if Edmonton gets a soccer specific stadium in the near future, though.
FCE now has a sponsor bar, Sports Central, which will be playing all of the away games on a couple of giant screens. I was there on April 9 for FCE’s first ever regular season NASL game (which they won!), and the turnout was great. Lots of enthusiastic fans, and great presence from FCE — supporters club, people handing out merch and telling us about contests, and even the owner. I wasn’t sure what to expect — I honestly didn’t think there would be many people there — but I had a great time.
Their website has improved since it was first launched last year. Tickets have just become available to purchase through their website. Prices are very reasonable at $ 20 for general admission ($ 23 day of) and $ 25 reserved seating ($ 28 day of).
Going to an FCE game is a perfect way to spend a summer evening or afternoon with friends, enjoying the weather, watching the beautiful game and not breaking the bank while doing so. Hopefully they will gain more and more supporters and be part of our city for a long time.
