Escape City

Just did «the cabin» and it was amazing. The attention to detail does not go unnoticed! I actually felt like I was in a cabin. Our group finished with 0 minutes to spare and left really proud. I will definitely be coming back to try other rooms. I thoroughly enjoyed my time and can’t wait to try another room! I would highly recommend this place.

Went to Escape City for my first ever escape/​breakout room experience. I wasn’t sure what to expect, and as we walked in, the modern/​industrial/​minimalist décor had me concerned about what level of detail the individual rooms would contain, but once we got shown to our room it was a blast. I was beyond hungover so luckily my teammates were able to do most of the quick thinking. I found some of the subsequent puzzles in the room to be quite similar in nature… I’m not sure if that was by design or due to a limitation in the very nature of the concept, but it was still challenging, intriguing and exciting. The room we were in was considered «the hardest» and we got about 97% through… Another 5 minutes and we probably would have completed it. I will definitely be returning and look forward to seeing the other rooms Escape City has to offer :)

I’ve done a few escape challenges and this one was by far the most professionally put together. The room design, props and puzzles were well thought out and fit the theme nicely.
We did the Magic Emporium and I had a great time! Some of the people I was with thought it was a little ‘too easy’ but I just thought we did an amazing job solving the puzzles! We were out with 20 minutes to spare and the comment was, you feel like you get your moneys worth when you get out at the last second or don’t get out at all.
We had a team of 6 working together and as we progressed the room got a little small. It was nice in the beginning because there were many challenges you could work on simultaneously but near the end you were kind of tripping over one another.
I would love to go back and try some of the other rooms. At $ 25 a pop it’s not something we’ll do every weekend but it’s a fun, unique way to spend a Friday night. Also, while we were there they let us know about new larger space their working on that can host groups up to 12. Sounds like a party!

Such a great experience! Saw this place driving past and looked it up online — we HAD to try it! I went with four people and tried the «Cabin» room. An incredibly detailed, challenging and intriguing room with so many surprises. The staff was insanely amazingly friendly, and when we asked for a hint they gave us just the right amount of information. Great facility, lockers to hold your belongings, and loads of different time slots and rooms to choose from. I can’t to go back and try a few other rooms!

We had an amazing time here! The puzzles were clever, it was well organized. I liked that there was a place to lock up our stuff, and that it was included. We were two big groups, and they handled us all like pros. We would definitely go back!

I got to try the Inheritance Room at Escape City last month for a private function.
It was a BLAST.
The staff were friendly and the production/​design of the rooms were second to none! Seriously, the production company they use is really phenomenal and I was BLOWN away. I even loved the doors you enter into for the rooms — each looked completely different and had a personality of their own.
This is by far my favourite Escape Room/​Breakout Room yet!
The room itself had multiple effects/​puzzles/​productions ranging from video to scent to visual to tactile. I LOVED it!
I cannot wait to go back!
P. S. They are located on the West side of the street which is one way so it can be a bit trick to find but they are in the same strip mall as Subway. There is free parking but it can require a bit of a walk as it’s a busy area.

I felt like I was on an amazing journey through a criminal minds episode. Probably the most disappointing but exciting part is that I need to go back to escape the Cabin.
Escape City was gorgeous — I loved the look of the doors and had to snap a few pictures of them.

Hurray! Another Escape /​Breakout room in the city has come and I got to try it out. How does it compare?
For those people who haven’t tried it out, these are rooms where you try to get out by solving clues within a certain amount of time.
I’ve done 2 of these rooms from different companies now, and I have to say that Escape City is definitely superior.
Pros:
1. Thematically, they make you feel like you’re actually in a situation where you would have to solve puzzles to get out vs just «solving puzzles»
2. Great staff.
3. Staff were really helpful and nice.
Con:
1. Parking is free in the area, but because it’s near a lot of other establishments it can be hard to find parking
Worth going to? Yes! You bet.

If you are motivated, crafty, resourceful type of person or just think you are well you need to check this place out.
The first thought going through my mind when I walked into one of the escape rooms was «This is going to be nuts». The group of people I was teamed up with were real problem solvers (thank goodness).
Suddenly you somehow tap into the little corner of your brain that wakes up with a childlike shout «hey I get this!»
Through Riddles, puzzles, and searching you wake up that kid in you again that was in a hibernating slumber. Jumping and high five-​ing each other after you unlock each piece of the puzzle. It’s extremely thrilling and exhilarating to say the least.
I highly recommend checking this place out. This place would be great for various company motivational team work experience or a great night out with some good friends.
I will definitely be back soon.

I had no idea what I to expect from my Escape City experience when I showed up to the Unilocal event last night. I’d heard of these things, they’re popping up all over the city, friends have been and loved them and now I know why! What unique fun!
If you’re looking for something new and interesting and straight up fun to do then check out Escape City. I admittedly was a touch nervous and intimidated at first. I really had no idea what we were facing. And even the first 10 or so minutes in the room once we had actually started were still very confusing to me. But then it all just started to gel, and the team gelled, and the game started to make sense and we started slaying it!
I’ve had the night to reflect on the evening and the more I think about it, the more I realized how much I enjoyed Escape City and that I will definitely return to take another crack at another room.
If I’m being fully honest there were a few snags that I could witch about (maintenance of the props ie. broken pieces that made solving things confusing, I didn’t like the casual nature of buzzing for a clue, the staff just came in and told you basically what you were looking for or needed to do next and I found that kinda killed the magic) but as my bf said, «See through the bullsh*t». And I did, because ultimately, this is a super fun, interesting and unique experience and Escape City does a fine job of delivering it.
Top Tip: leave as much of your personal stuff in your car or at home as possible. They do make you hand over your cell phone and the lockers you can put your coats etc. in seemed a little unsecure to me and I wouldn’t have been comfortable using them.
Get there early, ask questions of the friendly staff if you don’t understand something, lots of free parking and just all around a fun night out!

Totally fun, elaborate, and genius rooms. Obviously required an immense amount of effort and it shows. Escape City is incredibly fun and I highly recommend it to any fun-​loving human (also, there is a total babe that works there. We were calling for hints just to talk to him.)

This place is amazing. The staff was really nice too! The rooms are developed very well. We did Keller’s Magic Emporium, the last room was a shocker!
The concept is awesome, so glad Edmonton has more places like this!

Super fun and challenging! We have done 2 of their rooms and both experiences were so phenomenal. Our first room was the Keller’s Magic Emporium and it had so many surprises and it is still one of our favourite rooms to talk about. Our second room was The Cabin which had one of the best ambiences and the puzzles were very well done. We did have a malfunction right at the end of our room and actually ran out of time but due to the malfunction we were given 5 more minutes and escaped out of the room which was such a rush!
When you come they have cupboards with locks to put your belongings into and they give you a very quick explanation before you go into the room. If you book a room as a group of 4 or less there is a strong possibility you will be sharing the room with strangers.

Escape City has my favourite escape rooms in Edmonton. I think a big part of that is the cleanliness. You can tell that they take more time to ensure that the rooms are clean and they don’t get stuffy like the others do. The props are also a lot more elaborate, and the rooms just look realistic. The people who run Escape City are friendly and fun and make you feel welcome and comfortable. Even if you’ve never done an Escape Room before, they’ll make sure you’re having a good time! I’ve tried two different rooms here now and didn’t make it out of either. I guess that means I’ll have to be back!

First time in an escape room. A fun, puzzling, and entertaining experience. Along with 4 friends, we did the Discovery Room.
Enjoy the environment, get into character, stay focused, and have fun. We’ll be back to check out the other rooms!

First time playing an escape game and it was so much fun! We did Keller’s Magic Emporium and were two puzzles away from completion. Without giving anything away, I’ll say that there were lots of very clever and well-​designed surprises in the room, and that the puzzles were also unique, varied and fun to solve. They clearly put a lot of work into both the functionality and decoration of the room, and because of that it was a very immersive experience. There were just two of us, so we got paired up with a pair of strangers but we all worked really well together and it was a great experience.
Wouldn’t recommend for kids, as this room had some mature content (nothing crazy, but I would have been terrified up to about age 12) and the puzzles were quite difficult.

So fun! So far I’ve only completed two rooms, but I will definitely be back! What a great place to go with friends family or hell even strangers! I also recommend it for couples — pre marital counselling perhaps? Haha. You really learn a lot about yourself and your partner when you’re solving things under pressure!

Escape City is YEG’s newest escape room experience and it does not disappoint! The rooms are built by local set designers and definitely feel like there has been a lot of thought and time put into design (granted I have only seen one and it was great). I just hope that they stay this way and aren’t damaged by people literally tearing the place apart for clues. The intro for the back story was cool because you watch a video instead of having the ‘host’ read out the back story. I also believe these were sourced by using a local production company and actors. In terms of difficulty, it was challenging, but not impossible. We were on the very last puzzle when we ran out of time, so it was very much doable– all we needed was another 5 mins! Like the others if you do get stuck they will help you out with two clues, but if you are like my group of friends that does take some of the fun out of it. While we struggled at times we managed to make our way from puzzle to puzzle without needing any of the clues which was great. I will say that is a testament to how smart my friends and I are, and not the level of challenge out of the room ;)
The location is great– on Calgary trail which is central and easy to get to. It was kind of hard to find but I think they are getting new signs so that will be fixed. Also, I am not 100% sure of this, but I believe that if you ask them you can do the room without having to pair up with strangers (ie. group of 4 just 4 instead of a group of 4 and a group of 2). Like, I am sure there is a minimum to do the rooms, but from experience, it is much more fun to be able to try and solve them with a group of people you know. Check them out and have fun!

I love escape rooms, so I always welcome more competition in Edmonton to keep things fresh.
In comparison with EEscape and Breakout, Escape City definitely felt like more of a premium escape room. The rooms feel like a little fancier, and the props are a lot nicer. The puzzles feel more high tech and elaborate. (we had lasers and hidden doors in our room)
The price is the same as the other two ($ 25).

Although I really enjoyed Escape City, as a northsider, I don’t think I’ll be making the trek out here very much, especially in the winter.
