Decadence

Very cool place. Bought a kick ass flannel here once.

Full of tons of second-​hand — am I supposed to call it vintage? — clothing and a few bits of new items. The beauty of Decadence, as opposed to other thrift stores like Value Village, is that they sift through all of the questionable (aka crap) items they receive and keep only the quality items to sell in their store, which is convenient but results in a markup in prices. There is a solid collection of eclectic clothing in store, including sweaters, band tees, dresses, you name it! It’s a lovely places to come and take a gander and potentially leave with a new (old?), unique piece of clothing. I have never found anything for myself here, but I’ve always enjoyed the browsing experience. Check it out if you are looking for clothing for a theme party — there are some wacky wonderful items for that.

I decided to check out Decadence today to knock another store off my list of ones I haven’t visited yet on Whyte and if nothing else I will say it was definitely an interesting experience! It was really neat to browse through all the old styles from the 70’s, 80’s, and early 90’s. A part of me wished some of them would have stayed trapped in their decade though and there was nothing there that really caught my attention as pretty or uniquely hard to find. I did walk away with a fairly good quality retro shirt though that had a hilarious saying on it for $ 5.00. I agree with Alex F. that some of the clothing seems overpriced but there are good deals to be had if your willing to take the time to flip through all the racks. Also the shoes were very reasonably priced and the selection was quite good for a thrift store. The staff were friendly and the store is unpretentious which is exactly what one would want and expect from visiting a thrift store. It isn’t the type of place that will appeal to everybody but I still think it is at least worth the initial visit. If nothing else you can laugh at some of the more outlandish fashions we were all guilty of owning at one time or another.

This place is so fun. I like coming here and trying on a bunch of random stuff; I usually end up leaving with one or two things. I am a fan of vintage clothing, and this store definitely is in that business. The only criticism I have is that it is fairly highly priced for vintage clothing. it is usually the price of new things. Other than that, it is one of the few vintage clothing stores in Edmonton, and it’s very cool!

I’m not sure why this is called Decadence. Decadent in the way Rome was decadent when they started really feelin’ the lead in those pipes, perhaps.
I think the word decadent is over and mis-​used.
I digress.
It’s a vintage clothing store, with vintage clothing. I don’t know what I expected, maybe I wasn’t in the right mood. It smelled like feet and the must of my grandmothers closet mixed together and I felt like I was at goodwill. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.
Maybe my real beef is that «DECADENCE» makes me think I’ll find chocolate in there, since dessert menus are the other place that word is most overused.
I’m going to go eat a brownie. And I probably won’t be back to shop here.

My latest trip to Decadence was kind of odd. After trying on a dress, I decided to purchase it. When I got to the counter, the sales associate gushed about how they don’t usually know the history of the clothes in the store since they don’t buy them directly from clients but that this particular dress was an exception.
I naively expected a cute story but what I got instead was a sad tale about a girl who died when she was 19, and was possibly murdered by her husband. Not exactly the best way to close a sale. In all honesty, it made me really uncomfortable. This is exactly why I usually avoid buying vintage in the first place. Now I have a gorgeous dress hanging in my closet that will make me think of murder every time I wear it… great.
Besides the creepy murder-​mystery, Decadence is alright. I like the way it’s organized and how they always seem to have something new to look at. As others have mentioned, the fitting rooms leave something to be desired. The fabric door only works if the rooms are hidden in the back of a shop. These are right out in the open.
Overall, Decadence is fun to browse through and has better selection than other vintage shops I’ve been to. I’ll be back for sure, but next time someone offers to tell me the story of an item I want to purchase, I’m going to tell them «no thanks».

I love Decadence, even though they are a sister store to Divine. The staff are friendly, but a little more toned down from the Divine crew, which I whole-​heartedly appreciate.
I always hate the price, for vintage it’s too much and for new it’s WAY too much, but that’s everywhere these days.
This is my favorite store to browse in, and I usually end up buying something I cannot live without :)

I went inside Decadence because it’s a «vintage store.» My body shape really works well with hourglass cut dresses.
Now, everyone has their own definition of vintage — do they really mean «anything older than now?» That’s what it seems like walking in, a sort of fancier Value Village, with a more discerning selection.
The staff is really friendly and I have no complaints about the service. The thing that confuses me though is the wide range of prices in the store. I saw a Megadeth metal shirt for $ 74 on there. Sorry. No matter how cute the shirt is, it’s just a metal shirt with a wide collar. I can buy a real concert shirt and cut up the top and have a similar look.
Still, there are real deals and nice fashion to find if you know what you want and are looking for. I’m always on the look out for great blazers, and I found one that was cropped, fitted perfectly, and had cute feminine puff sleeves for $ 19! Now, that was a deal. I also walked away with a slightly expensive vintage dress ($ 78), but I’m more flexible in increasing my budget for dresses that fit perfectly than random cotton t-​shirts.
If you like treasure hunting, Decadence is a decent place to start your search. I just wish that for a partial consignment store that their prices were a lot less extreme.

Awesome, awesome, awesome staff. It’s a bit expensive for a thrift store ($ 20 for a worn-​out t-​shirt from the 80’s??) but they have good prices on shoes, Doc Martens specifically. Their shoes are a good 10 to 20 bucks cheaper than Gravity Pope. They have some pretty interesting clothing, including vintage swim suits!

Decadence is a pretty cool store! I like that they’ve got a lot of fanciful vintage things and that they’ve really organized their store well. It’s a perfect place to browse if you have free time and aren’t necessarily looking to buy anything. Although, I must warn you — if you are in the lavish mood then you might end up buying bed sheets from the 70s!
Most, if not all, of the clothes here are used but I feel a lot more comfortable browsing through it here thanks to the good organization of the store. It certainly doesn’t feel like you’re looking through a rack of random clothes in a Goodwill center.
The staff are also very friendly even if they know that you aren’t going to buy anything (which is usually the case with me — I prefer window shopping to actual shopping). Having said that, I’ve had that «Last Temptation» feel every time I enter here, thinking that it’s high time I bought myself those fancy Star Wars T’s from the late 70s, that I was deprived of since I never lived in the generation to wear those!
I would certainly drop in whenever I have the time to check out what’s latest in the yesteryears department!

I can remember going to Divine as early as 1993 in search of vintage denim and I have been a loyal customer ever since. The staff at Decadence are very polite and friendly, the selection of men’s clothing is about average, however, the selection of women’s clothing is outstanding! I found some great deals on men’s wool sweaters and full length coats, and I look forward to shopping at Decadence on a regular basis. I highly recommend this store to anyone who wants a good deal on used clothing or is looking for great vintage clothing at a fabulous price!

The twin of Divine that didn’t come out moronic. now the selection here isn’t as huge but I find that there is usually more stuff that is appealing here then at Divine. Smaller and better selection for sure. The staff here are way less outrageous and I find more inclined to have a normal conversation with you. This place still comes with the high price tag though unfortunately, but is definitely worth checking out. Especially if you’re going to an ugly 80’s party.

Vintage clothing is right! This store is full with wall-​to-​wall clothes! There is a section of the store for shoes and boots but the majority of the store is clothes clothes clothes! The clothes that I found in Decadence were not exactly my cup of tea though. But, if you have an ugly sweater party to go to, you would have a hay day at Decadence. Those parties are really a lot of fun!
I honestly don’t mean to put Decadence down. I’m sure that given the time to browse thoroughly through every rack, you might find a hidden treasure amongst everything else. It’s a neat idea for a store, it just wasn’t my style.

I don’t come to Decadence very often – mostly because I don’t like paying high prices for vintage clothing. Although it can take hours, even days, to find some of the cool clothing they have at vintage stores like Value Village, I’d almost rather do the work myself than pay more.
Decadence is an extension of Divine down the street. I’m actually impressed with how much this store has improved over the years, because their vintage clothing used to be rather dull. But when I was in here the other day, I saw some really funky and crazy dresses. Some of these would be perfect for Halloween, a funky wedding, or a crazy night out. Others were just very retro from the 50s, 60s. 70s. or 80s. I love vintage coats, and I have seen some great ones here, but they are usually too small. I find a lot of the clothes here run on the small side.
I didn’t find anything special about the vintage shoe selection here, but they do have new Converse All-​Stars; however, Divine and Gravity Pope have a way better selection. I also saw some very style new hats here, and they were pretty cheap!
I think Decadence is still worth checking out, but I’m not going to start coming here regularly.

Decadence is another neat vintage shop on Whyte, the kind of place I wish I stopped by before Halloween, because I probably would have found some great stuff. They have vintage clothing for men and women, even kids, but the best items in my opinion, are their ultra-​vintage frocks that they keep near the back of the store. I saw some patterns and color combinations that probably haven’t seen the light of day since the 50’s, but they were so outrageous that they would have made awesome costumes, with a little alterations here and there.
The remainder of their consignment items look a bit old, but some of their new items are pretty cute. They carry a vintage hip/​retro style here, a little similar to that of Divine down the street. They also carry Converse shoes like Divine. In fact, I think they might be owned by the same people, but I’m not entirely sure on that. I prefer Divine though, because they seem to have more selection, and more modern and trendy stuff. Still, Decadence is pretty cool if you like to hunt for old hidden treasures and spice them up yourself.

Decadence sells vintage clothing, much of it second hand. If you like Converse high tops, this is definitely the place to head. The last time I was in the store, I saw a sweater that looks like one I actually own — I’ve been with it all along and never knew it! Just goes to prove that you should never throw any clothes in good condition away — you never know when it may come back in fashion.
Anyways, you can get some good deals here, but some of the items are pricey. As well, some of the items are so retro that you have to have a pretty high level of confidence to wear them in public. However, there is also a selection of more conservative garments for the average person.
