Dark Tanning Studio

With summer half over I thought it would be a good idea to get my tan on before I take summer vacation. Seeing as I spend a lot of time indoors I thought I would take the indoor approach! After some research as to which tanning salon would be worth my money I decided to give Dark a shot. I’m all about small local businesses, so it was sort of a no brainer.
Upon arrival I was greeted by a lovely man who introduced himself as Bruce. He asked me my name and made my visit personal, not just another customer. This goes a long way in my books as I could just as easily go to a closer shop which is just a few blocks from my place. Bruce immediately made me feel as though I was getting my money’s worth. He went though the various packages, describing each bed and it’s pros and cons. He was honest and didn’t pressure me into the most expensive package, telling me which would be best suited to my wants an needs. He informed me of the current special, advised me on lotions to help boost my tan and again didn’t try to gauge me.
Dark is absolutely immaculate! From the moment you walk in it’s obvious it’s well taken care of. From taking your shoes off at the door to the cleanliness of the room. Seeing as it’s such an intimate experience this is great to see.
One thing that really stood out for me was the fact that he didn’t bad mouth his competitor. When he saw that my previous lotion was from another well known local shop he mentioned the shop but didn’t speak badly of them.
I don’t normally give a 5 star review but Dark has earned its place in my 5 star club!

Dark Tanning is the place to go for the BEST spray tans in the city! The way the machine customizes to your body helps you to achieve the most even and natural looking tan possible and it is long lasting! I’ve tried many self-​tan and spray tan systems and this is the only one that left me truly satisfied!
Staff is always friendly and outgoing — they make you feel comfortable and share their knowledge of the industry with you! Even on short notice, they’ve been able to accommodate me :)

By far my favourite tanning salon in Edmonton.
Exceptionally friendly and informative staff. The salon is dark and sort of mysterious in a way. I love the ambiance and the upkeep is like non other, I’m actually comfortable walking around in my socks (shocker).
The staff is so cheerful and happy for help you with anything, never pressure you into buying anything.
I strongly recommend buying one of their lotions, they have a pretty good selection of some of the best on the market (I believe).
I’m visiting Edmonton next month and I will be sure to drop in for a tan. :)

I love tanning. It’s my vice, ok? I know it’s bad for me, I know I should get my kicks elsewhere, I know a lot of people aren’t into it. But for me, it’s my guilty pleasure. I don’t smoke, I don’t do drugs, I don’t eat bacon. Let me have my UV beds.
Dark Tanning opened up around a year ago and I was delighted to find a salon close to my house that boasted new beds and a new facility. The salon is quite small but hosts five different kinds of beds, all with different price points. I have tried all of the beds and they offer a great tanning experience — top of the line equipment with lots of fun electronic add-​ons (the lay down beds have auxillary ports for you to plug your ipod into, so you can tan while listening to your own music on the bed’s speakers, very convenient).
The salon is very clean and well kept, prices are decent and I love that their minutes don’t expire (this is a pet peeve of mine) and you don’t have to sign a contract (like you do at Planet Beach). I tan semi-​regularly (two to three times a week usually) and have never had a problem getting an appointment right away — I never have to book in advance, usually the wait is only a few minutes. I love the customer service in this salon as well — I have met most of the staff and they are all super friendly, personable, approachable and pleasant. Too many times I have walked into a tanning salon to be ignored by a girl Facebooking on the computer or talking on the phone to a friend — this has NEVER happened at Dark. I like that they consistently show concern for tanning safety (eyewear is always a must) and burn prevention.
They offer a competitive student discount and lots of great promotions and announcements are promoted on their Facebook page. I love the huge assortment of lotions they carry and the amazing seasonal promotions that come around every month or so.
If you like that sunkissed glow like me, or are preparing for a vacay at the beach and are looking for a great little place to catch some (artificial) rays, Dark Tanning is your place. They make tanning into a great experience. Oh and the beds glow/​change colors on the outside when you’re not in them. Sometimes I pretend I’m in a space ship. No big deal.
