This place was recommended to me by a friend as «BBQ». Sadly, it is not. My tastebuds were all geared up for brisket. On the plus side, they are a «Roast House» which means all of the meats are slow roasted. Apparently the star of the menu is the«Chic-Hog-O» burger. It is a chicken and pork mixture that makes up the patty. I avoided that one because I was in the mood for BBQ. I was actually told after my visit by two very educated tasters that this burger should be avoided at all costs. Kind of glad I didn’t try it. What I did have was so delicious! The Porcetta Sandwich is slow roasted with sweet peppers and garnished with cilantro. Flavourful and delicious. I also ordered the Roasted Cauliflower as my side expecting to get a handful. You have enough for two to share. The Roasted Cauliflower takes a while but it is worth the wait. Slightly caramalized on the outside and tender on the inside. Wonderful stuff! I was only able to finish half of the sandwich and half of the cauliflower. The portion sizes here are pretty large. I almost forgot about the warm olives and fennel! Sort of served as an appertif while you are waiting for your food to come out. I don’t normally like olives but I tried a couple of the green variety and they were actually good. My husband wasn’t very hungry so he ordered what was supposed to be an appetizer. Sausages with Marinara Sauce. He let me have a bite. They were tender and delicious, and another large portion. Christina is absolutely wonderful. I haven’t had a server dote on our table like she did in forever. I have had good servers, but she was phenomenal! She was friendly and very helpful to a couple of first time visitors to the restaurant. There is an ice-cream sandwich creation on the menu for dessert that Christina had recommended. We were unfortunately too full to try it. With the portion sizes though, I think we will stop back just to try the desserts some evening. Parking is a huge pain in the butt around here. Chic-Hog-O is located just west of the Edmonton General Hospital. If you are willing to pay the $ 6 there is plenty of parking in their lot right across the street. The meters in front are strictly 15 minutes only until after 6pm. There is a beautiful patio that I will look forward to sitting on this summer!

Been here a couple times. Love getting the olives with my drink. It’s a nice touch and also nice to not just get bread. I had the veggie sandwich and it was awesome. I also had the quinoa salad and it was pretty good too. Hoping to go back again. Nice staff and I love the atmosphere.

Very disappointed. Walked in after reading several reviews about this place. I knew I had to give it a try. The manager greeted me and gave me a bit of info about the place. The restaurant was empty, but the staff was all so very friendly. Everyone was accommodating and informative about the menu. For takeout, I ordered their Chic Hog O burger and a chicken sandwich for takeout. I also ordered some two cans of pop– was charged 3.00 per can of San Pellegrino Limonata. This is robbery. I came home to eat my meal a few minutes later– I live close by– and was deeply disappointed. For over 30.00, I got a burger with so much meat and so little flavour that I could barely make a dent in. It was dry and the pork overpowered the beef. The toppings were non-descript and then the chicken sandwich– my girlfriend’s– was also very dry and bland. I can’t say I hated the food, because it wasn’t that bad, but for the price paid, it has to be rated on a scale different from that of a 5 Guys or Red Robin burger– which are less costly and far more enjoyable. The 3.00 can of pop was my favorite part about the meal. Wouldn’t go back. Maybe they’ve improved? Who knows.

Super nice informal little patio for a hot summer night when all you want is a really good roasted meat sandwich and a cold beer, minus the noise and scantily clad hostesses so commonly part of the beer/sandwich deal. Warm olives with fennel came with the beer – a first for me; gorgeous surprise! The chicken sandwich – slow roasted chicken, sun-dried tomatoes, artichokes – was huge, big enough for both of us, and the roast cauliflower was divine and, again, plenty to share.(I swear they roasted an entire cauliflower.) Warm service, good value, really nice supper.

Lovely warm August evening. Even though we were a few steps from Jasper, the chic-hog-o’s patio felt like a peaceful hide-away from the bustle. The food was great — and ample. We split a chicken sandwich and roasted cauliflower, along with a couple of 1664’s. Service was excellent! We met one of the owners, who explained the«social roast» philosophy — we roast our meet and we’re sociable. Sounds great to me. Highly recommended for a casual dinner out!

I stumbled on Chic-Hog-O’s while my colleague and I were looking for lunch after a meeting up the street. What a find! I’ve been back again since, and everything I’ve tried is delicious. I especially love the warm olives, roast potatoes, cauliflower, and the roast beef sandwich(which they did up for me gluten free with crackers on the side!) The service has been wonderful both times I’ve gone, and the patio is amazing on a summer day. Highly recommend this new Edmonton gem.

Back for my second time and every bit as good as the first. Me and my guest ordered the pork and chicken sandwich and we split it so we both could try. I actually liked the pork better but both were great. Ordered the side potato’s which were good, but the cauliflower is better. Super friendly owners and great service again. They deserve your love! Go!

FOODWASINCREDIBLE!!! The sandwich portions are huge and just fantastic. Had the roast beef with garlic aoili instead of the blue cheese dressing and it blew my mind. Tried the place after reading a review of it in the Journal. Worth checking out. Easily my new favorite downtown restaurant.

I have been here a number of times now, and can say I have tried everything on the menu. I honestly can’t pick a favorite because everything is so good. LOVE the roasted cauliflower though, holy crap.

The name of this place was a bit misleading… I was expecting meat-lovers paradise, maybe a BBQ joint. Instead, the menu contains a surprising number of vegetarian and vegan friendly options. Don’t worry though, there’s still plenty of meat to be had, including maple bacon ice cream for dessert. I had the porchetta sandwich because porchetta is the best. The server recommended it as well, but I had pretty much already made up my mind. It came out quickly, no side, just the sandwich. It was filling enough though, I probably could have shared it along with a side and been satisfied. The service was great and the décor is cute. My sandwich was $ 11… Not cheap, but not unreasonable. I’m looking forward to coming back for the ice cream!

This place has soooo much Potential, however the Chicken Sandwich my Girlfriend and I ordered was cold, the bun was hard(not appropriate for this type of meal). The prices are too high for what You get, as the main meals do NOT come with a side. We will not be going back

First time trying Chic-Hog-O’s and most likely my last. I might consider giving it a second shot when the kinks are ironed out in a few months, but the first impression left A LOT to be desired. Terrible service, my food(when it finally showed up nearly 45 minutes after being seated) was dry, cold, and bland. Hopefully they can work out the issues and find success, as the restaurant itself is in a great location, and has a good atmosphere.

Chic-Hog-O’s literally just opened. It’s a small space, occupying the former digs of Château Beirut downtown. As far as first impressions are concerned, it shows promise, although a few tweaks to the menu are warranted. Warm olives with fennel and citrus are a gorgeous starter. All manner of olives — black, green, and every colour in between — are present, and each imparts its own nuances. A porchetta sandwich is pleasantly topped with strips of roasted red peppers and obtains zesty notes from leaves of cilantro. The meat underneath, while ample, is a wee bit dry. Crumbles of cracklins are unctuously delicious. The bun is neither here nor there, and is standard grocery store fare. The Chic-Hog-Burger is an unusual combination of ground chicken and pork. As with the porchetta, the meat is rather dry, but is helped along by a crown of thick-cut bacon and cheddar cheese. Slices of tomato could be riper. The bun, again, is the weak link. It’s far larger than the patty, and much bread is left over long after the innards are consumed. Bacon-maple ice cream sandwiches for dessert are not to be missed.
