The owner is very nice but watch out for the delivery driver trying to scam a «delivery fee» from you. There is also someone at the location who was in on the scam. After prying my money out of The drivers hand the owner(i think) called us back and appologised. The pizza was alright but it was also cold because the delivery driver decided to do some laps before dropping it off. Overall never again, and I feel bad for the owner cause he doesn’t deserve to have crooked people ruining his establishment and it’s reputation.

Worst delivery experience. Prob never order from there. Even after reading saying it’s good food. I would give zero. Foods not bad.

Ordered pizza on saturday night, and they definately don’t have enough staff for a saturday. The pizza itself was alright, nothing special, a little dry and over baked, not the way i like it(juicy with lots of cheese). Customer service is not the greatest, but just OK. They screwed up with other orders and my order too, so it took quiet a while. In the menu they have small sized pizzas, however when i tried ordering it, they said only medium or large…

First off, I’ll say that I no longer enjoy pizza from any of the big chains in the city, including Panago, which I consider the cream of the crop when it comes to chain pizza. So I’ve been searching a bit for a good independent operator. So far, Checkers ranks as #1 on my Edmonton pizza list. I’d probably put Nitza’s Pizza in Sherwood Park and St. Albert as my top choice, but it’s a far drive for pizza. This is hearty, thick, tasty pizza. They’re pretty consistent and generally don’t over-bake their pizza and create a good product. It’s much thicker than most chain pizza and has more of a home-made taste; I don’t taste much artificial in there. They have good variety of toppings, and I often get hot sauce in the sauce of the pizza, which is a delicious twist that few pizza outlets offer. As for the restaurant experience, I can’t really comment; I’ve only ever had take-out or delivery. There are a couple of tables, but it’s probably not a place that you’d want to hang around. But you can’t knock a pizza place for that. Although delivery can be very, very slow. But it’s a small business, so you have to adjust expectations a bit. So go get some Checkers!(I have no idea why they’re ranked so badly on Unilocal.Hopefully that turns around for them)

Ah, Checkers is acceptable for a by-the-slice joint. Nothing more, nothing less.

I wish there was a 0 star option. I ordered food from here for delivery, waited 1 hour for them to show and no luck. Called them to see what was going on. When I called they told me that the driver was close to my house with my food. I waited another 30 min for the food and still no luck. Finally I was fed up so I called to cancel and the guy on the line wanted me to call the driver! Are you kidding me! I don’t want your food at this point and you think I am going to call your driver to explain again why I don’t want to wait anymore! I do not recommend the place to anyone who wants to eat the food they order the same day they order it!

Wow. Really? I will start by saying the nicest thing I can, the pizza itself didn’t taste bad, however by the time we got it it was hardly warm and way over priced for the size of the«large». It is not good value for your money. Next, if I thought it was going to take 1.25 hours to get my pizza delivered, I wouldn’t have bothered in the first place. The ordering process felt rushed and I didn’t feel like he was listening to me while I was trying to explain what we were looking for. Then, when I called back an hour later asking whether they were still going to deliver the pizza, the man rushed me off the phone, did not apologize and simply stated«yes yes it will be there momentarily». Needless to say, I will not be ordering from Checkers Pizza & Kabab again.

I’m still on the search for the best pizza place which will deliver to my house for a reasonable price(the prices at Royal Pizza scare me a bit too much). I think that Checkers may top the chart as of right now for a number of reasons. a) Quick delivery — fewer than 30 minutes on a Friday night b) It’s not too soggy c) Fresh Spinach as a topping d) Roasted Garlic as a topping e) It’s not too greasy This isn’t a place I would brag about to any out of town guests, but it functions as a fine, and inexpensive place to get a pizza delivered from. They also no longer offer veggie meats as toppings — if I want those, I still need to order from Panago.

I haven’t been to this place since the new owners took over and it is a pretty significant change. First it is now Halal, which means little to non Muslims but is significant. It also means the toppings have also changed, no spicy sausage or bacon. I can live with these changes as long as the food is good. After ordering a Mediterranean Chicken Pizza and wings, it is on par with the large chains around the block but not enough to guarantee this is the only place I will go to even though it is the closest to me.

I know it seems like there is no fault to the businesses that I visit. Not true. More often than not I do my research before I visit a business. This time it is different. Checkers Pizza is one of those not-so-glamorous fast food joints opened late on Whyte ave. This one in particular is right beside where I live! Never visited it. Never had a desire. Never gave it a second glance — that is until I married an Egyptian and he came to set up shop with me in Edmonton ;) Being Egyptian, and thus, but not always, Muslim means there are some dietary restrictions. YAY for me being a vegetarian. I am no longer the difficult, particular one! Within a 10 block radius I realized I live in quite the Arabic Mecca. No pun intended. The odd thing is I have lived in the same place for over 14 years! So, Checkers you ask, what is so special? Well they serve 100% halal food! Halal for Muslims is equivalent to Kosher for Jewish people. No pork product, fabulous meat product(usually local, fresh and properly prepared). AND, veggie selections! It is still fast food style: pizza(by the slice or whole), donair sandwiches, chicken wings, kebab wraps, and some baked pasta. Nothing is fried here. NOFRENCHFRIESORDEEPFRY. Amazingly friendly service. Awesome location. Grand selection in pizzas. Great prices AND opened late! 7 days a week 12pm — 3am! Proud to support a local Halal Restaurant AND in my community! YAY Checkers! Check mate to you. FYI: Did you know that Chess(I know the Checkers and Check Mate reference is off :) is an Arab invention. Pretty cool! You should go!
