Went to Brit’s for lunch. After growing up going to British pubs I was VERY disappointed. The service was terrible, the food was fast but the women who work there are not friendly. They ask you to pay at the counter including tip but you get your own drinks etc. when there was a small mistake on our bill they said it was because we had changed our order so many times(once). The food itself was below average for what you would expect for the price($ 50 for one adult and three kids). Very greasy and the fries were not good. I do not recommend Brit’s Fish and Chips.

I ordered a salmon burger in hopes of getting a fillet but it came as a deep fried patty instead. The fries were really good but the burger itself tasted like propane and the bottom bun was rock hard. The lady at the front desk taking our order seemed very disinterested and gave little insight when we asked questions about the menu.

Never had a bad meal here and my Gluten Free girl has NEVER been made sick with cross contamination either. Great Job!

Being a Brit I was so excited when Brits fish and chips opened back many years ago. It tasted fabulous and so reminded me of going to the chippy back home. I used to frequent their establishment every other week as I didn’t live too far away from them. After moving away I only got to have my fave meal every couple of years. My last visit last week will probably be my last. I’m not sure if it’s changed ownership or if they just had a change in business plan. The food is now just ‘blah’. I ordered cod and chips for my wife and I and it came to $ 27 for a take away meal. I don’t mind paying that or even waiting the 45 mins, if it’s going to be worth it all. Alas the chips have changed, and we got less fish. It just isn’t value for money anymore. I used to recommend it to all my friends/colleagues, but sorry now I can’t. Perhaps one day I’ll re-visit the place but I think I’ll leave it a few years to see if they start getting better reviews again.

Best fish and chips I’ve had outside England. The food is delicious and there’s plenty of it. Brits is a bit pricey and you may have to be a little patient for the food to come to the table, but it’s well worth the wait.

I have read lots of reviews on here about Brit’s and yeah I am one of the disappointed ones. people have been right it is VERY expensive for what you get and Very greasy, but kinda expected that and taste was just ok. I had the halibut and chips and my friend the 2 piece cod and chips and came to over 34 bucks. check out their online menu and see if you want to spend that much before you go. we got take out and by the time I got home they had lost much of their appeal cause they were cold and when grease get’s cold it is yucky! I have been to Cockney Kings in New Westminster in bc now there is a place worth driving to and enjoying the fish. Still making the best I ever had! Person at front was polite and friendly no issues there. but from what I could see the place seemed empty, was it the prices?

The family was driving around Edmonton after an event and trying to decide where to go for some supper. I suggested we commit to going to the next random strip mall restaurant we saw. That is the story of how I met your Brits Fish & Chips I thought my husband was going to die of happiness when he realized they had gluten free fish and chips. I swear he would have ordered a second time if I hadn’t been there to stop him. The orders were huge and we walked away stuffed and happy. Don’t expect fancy ambience or healthy food but rather bask in the greasy gloriousness of it all!

Ok, so it’s not that the food itself is bad, it’s because we knew what it was like before… the owners have cheaped out and are using less seasoning and more dried seasoning in the sauces. And it shows. In flavor and quality. The fries and batter are different as well. It’s too bad you fiddled with something that didn’t need fiddling. Now it explains why there’s hardly anyone in your restaurant during the supper rush.

Has gone way down in service and quality since 2 years ago. I love the atmosphere of the place, kind of like what we used to see in England. Their beer batter barely tasted like beer, the fish was raw inside, coffee was old, and $ 55 for 2 of us was a bit expensive considering the small amount of food. Was hungry and could not actually finish meal. Find someplace else, not worth it.

Good fish, really good fish but the chips were soggy and horrible. The fish portions are really big though.

Had lunch 2 pc Haddock and chips this Friday March 14⁄14. I got it to go, when I ordered I was not told that there was 10 orders ahead of me so I had to wait 30 minutes for my food. When someone is ordering to go you should let them know that they can expect a ½ hr wait. Place is pretty dumpy and food was garbage. It was way overpriced for what I got. When I got back to the office the oil/grease was soaked through the paper they wrap it in. It was wrapped multiple times, once unwrapped I had a big pile of mush that was absolutely tasteless and quite disgusting. I ate one piece of fish and couple of mushy chips and threw the rest out. I paid $ 20 for this meal and threw most of it out that is how bad it was. I would never go back.

Fish and Chips seems like a standard meal that sould taste the same no matter where you go… But that’s not the case! I’ve learned that the hard way. I wouldn’t say drive to the other side of town to eat here. But if you’re a south sider, this place is the sport for fish and chips! Great atmosphere and service; always a safe bet.

We went here on a mid-afternoon on a whim. There are not too many restaurants around this area except for olé’ reliable, Boston Pizza, but we felt like trying Brit’s as we have passed by many times and always wondered what it was like. It was a neat restaurant with a walk up counter where you order. People have complained about grease in some reviews but it was not that bad to us. It was a tidy place, and seemed clean. I would love to give a higher score, but wow, the prices are just nuts. It was almost a shock and we were contemplating leaving because of it. It has been awhile since we ate here so I don’t remember the exact prices of what we ordered(we both ordered the same thing) but I believe one piece of fish with fries and coleslaw was north of $ 16. Our total with drinks and deep fried pickes was around the $ 40 mark. Way to expensive for lunch in a restaurant like this. But now we get to the food itself. It was delicious. I have never had fish with a batter so good on it. You could probably eat the batter on it’s own as a meal, it is that fresh and crispy. The fries were homecut and good, the fish itself was very nice. The side of coleslaw was homemade, typical coleslaw. We also ordered deep fried pickles and I have only had them a few times elsewhere but again, these were the best. We got two dips with them, and the batter on them was unreal. So much better than the greasy mess that Soda Jerks offers. The service was excellent, friendly, and food came fast. «E» has been to Britain and had fish and chips at the chippies there and said this version was as good as anything she got there, and less greasy. The only reason I gave it 3 stars was because of the pricing. It would be a nice place to go once or twice a month to get your fish and chips fix, however the prices are so high that it would only be a once or twice a year trip for us. We eat at Joey’s Seafood quite a bit and Brit’s is so much better as far as quality goes. Not even fair to compare, however the prices at Joey’s are more reasonable. On a sidenote, the pieces of cod we got with the meal were pretty big. But still, the pricing prevents us from becoming regulars which is a shame. It was great food.

Really good fish and chips. Best this side of St Johns. Kind of expensive, though. $ 42.45 for 2 fish and chips and 2 pops.

Everyone needs to know how awesome this place is. I was first introduced to this place in the summer of 2007 when I started my job in the area. I ate there once and haven’t gone back till this summer. It wasn’t that I disliked it the first time, I just got lazy(as the first time I ate at the restaurant when I only had a 30 min lunch break). I love fish & chips — I always went to Joey’s Fish&Chips restaurant all the time as a kid, but I’m a ketchup lover, and always smothered my fish in ketchup so I didn’t realize what was good and not. I don’t know what Fish & Chips in England, Scotland or anywhere on the coast of the Atlantic tastes like but I’ll tell you right now, I can taste how flavourful and fresh it is at Brit’s(even without my ketchup!). I haven’t had anything else on the menu, but the fish & chips are definitely not a light meal. The quantity is there with the quality. The price is a bit steep, however, I understand the price of fish and also when I order a 2 pc Haddock fish & chips, it’s enough to make me full twice. I always pick it up for lunch, and half of it is for dinner which makes me full later. It’s my guilty pleasure, a pretty greasy meal but I think it’s the same as having a greasy meal at any burger joint. Since the summer, I have eaten here a handful of times, and lately now maybe once or twice a month. As for having comfort food, and as much as I love my ribs and potatoes, I might choose some battered flavorful fish and(the BEST) chips from here instead. A friend of mine that had resided in England for a bit loves this place too, and has said, the fish is less greasy compared to what she had but the chips are better in England. Personally, I don’t know how they could be any better! Batter on the fish is light but not too thin, fish perfectly cooked and high quality(I’ve had halibut, turbot, cod and with haddock being my personal favourite), and the large fleshy tasty chips only fried, not under or overcooked — just perfect with no salt. If you can’t handle greasy foods, then no, don’t come here. But if you don’t mind the grease once in awhile, yes come try this place out. They’re super kind, food gets out quick, and you get what you pay for even if the price is «expensive», you get a lot of flavour and a lot of food. I specifically love this location — I just tried out their downtown location last night, and even though I got my craving calmed, it was much more greasy and overcooked downtown. But regular customer to the dt one have said it is a bit inconsistent there. I get my fish & chips at the southside location the same all the time — crispy and yummy! I’d give it 4 stars, but I haven’t eaten anything else off of their menu and their décor is a little lackluster. It’s not the best but it’s not horrible. It’s clean! Maybe I’m just being too picky. I also get take-out 9 times out of 10. Still, give ‘em a shot, if you don’t mind the grease(what else do you expect from fish&chips???)

went here for lunch today. probably my last time. the fish was tasty. but SUPER greasy!!! the fries were mushy and tastless. i seen the cook take leftover batter from the fish and sprinkle it on top of the fries. what’s with that? Took about 30mins to get our food to go. people who ordered after us got their food first. nice. a little expensive. average $ 15.00 a plate with nasty fries i couldn’t eat.:( now my stomache is turning in knots. never again.

To be honest, this place kind of grosses me out. Clog my arteries? Well why not? Yuck. My dad loves this place(which seems weird to me, because he is a health nut) and he insisted on going here for his birthday. What were we supposed to say? It was his birthday! We convinced him to do takeout because the atmosphere at this place is just downright depressing. You order at a counter and you pick your own drinks from a cooler and then they bring the food to your table. Not really fast food, not really sit down restaurant either. The guy working the front counter at this location looks about 14 and he seems to hate his life as well as his job. So clearly — we did take out. And it still grossed me out. It seems that the main rule of this place is grease grease and more grease. The fries are greasy, the fish is greasy, even the coleslaw seems greasy. I avoid this place at all costs — unless it is my dad’s birthday. In which case, I will eat before we go out.
