Our educated and friendly staff provide you with exceptional customer service in a delightful boutique setting at the largest mall in North America!

History

Established in 2007.

Aligra was started in 2007 by two wine loving entrepreneurs from Vancouver. We took a sad, derelict space at West Edmonton Mall that had been a poor excuse for a liquor store and turned it into the boutique wine and spirits that is thriving there today. Hard work, listening to customers, promoting our business and providing specialty products and great priced wines, high end tequilas, selection of rums, scotches and bourbons have put us on the map. Many local Edmontonians don’t like coming to The Mall. However, when they realize they can park in our reserved customer parking just outside Entrance 58 where our store is located, they soon find out how easy it is, and they find great products and receive personalized customer service.

A wine and spirits lover who has landed in Edmonton for awhile, after a long and fascinating career travelling the world for business and pleasure. Together with Grant, I have built a fun and interesting business. I have attained ISG Level ll and French Wine Scholar.

We enjoy marrying our passion for wine and travel and now offer wine tours.

The staff at Aligra are super friendly and helpful if you have questions or looking for a recommendation. We will come here if we’re in the mall and wanting to grab a bottle or two on the way home. The times I’ve had questions, they were answered promptly and the staff seem to enjoy helping, so kudos on the customer service!
There’s a Unilocal check in offer, and even if the staff haven’t seen it before, they don’t give you that d’uh look and say I don’t know. They look at it, and either confirm or do what they need to do to honour it. They are awesome!
Lots of wines and organized by country so that could help, or not. Last time I saw what looked like purses, but I think it was a wine purse. I know of a friend or two that would like that kind of purse. They also have Fruli single beers, so next time I need one, I’m heading to Aligra!

This isn’t really the kind of place you just grab a case of beers for the weekend from, although you can certainly buy it here. I prefer to come here when I’m looking for something special, like a gift.
Their specialty is wine, but you can still ask them about other things. We’ve taken their advice on tequila and rum, and so far no complaints.
Today, I went in looking for a very specific beer for a wonderful computer geek who fixed my incredibly temperamental piece of… Dell. Anyway, I found the Innis and Gunn type he likes, four different kinds, and ‘Trooper’ from Robinson’s Brewery, named for the Iron Maiden song. They ranged in price from $ 3.23 to $ 5.42, which is decent in my opinion. In fact, this goes on the Christmas List, because I’m going to be grabbing more later for stocking stuffers.
Of course, if you’re looking for something super cool and pricey, they keep the $ 400 champagne on the highest shelves behind the till.

I’m pretty sure I’ve mentioned this somewhere, but I’m not a wine guy. I know a bit about various wines, but not enough to be particularly concerned over brands, regions, vintages, or any other impressive sounding adjectives.
Walking into this store kind of makes me regret that a little. Enormous selection, with a good portion of wines that I thought were «unusual» or kind of hard to find. The ones that I personally got excited about were the flavoured sake varieties, which of course, is typical for me.
In addition to the gigantic selection, that staff were amazingly friendly and helpful. Even if this store only had a «standard» selection of wines, I’d go back just because those folks were so fantastic to deal with.

Aligra Wine & Spirits is for the connoisseurs and adventure seekers. It’s not the type of liquor store that the drunks crawl to to buy their $ 5 dollar box of wine, nor is it frequented by the neighbourhood teenagers as a place to pick up their pre-​drinking supplies before heading off to some trendy club that will be out of business next week.
Jennie M, in her review, already covered in great detail about Aligra’s vast and diverse wine selection so I don’t need to expand on that. They also have a fridge full of imported and domestic beers and ales with funny names like Skull Splitter and Vulcan Ale (Yes, it is named after Spock’s home planet). The beers are sold in individual bottles so it’s great for people that enjoy trying different brands of beer without having to purchase a whole case.
On that note, you won’t find the usual brands of beer that you see advertised on TV commercials featuring moose, snow, and every other unfortunate Canadian stereotype that you can think of. This is strictly for people that want to try something different.
Their selections of all the other bar staples (whiskey, vodka, rum, etc) is excellent too. They have the exotic and the run-​of-​the-​mill.
Aligra sells a selection of pre-​packed gift baskets featuring all sorts of goodies and they will also custom-​build baskets on request. On my last visit there they were also selling «Grab ‘n Go» bags filled with 6 different wines selected by the staff for around a hundred bucks a bag.
They also have events once in a while such as wine tastings. Recently Erik Turner of the band Warrant («Cherry Pie», «Heaven». .. remember them?) was there for an in-​store appearance to promote Warrant’s new brand of wine. Apparently it’s required by law now for all classic rock bands to have their own line of booze products.
Aligra’s staff are extremely knowledgeable on the product they’re selling and are always happy to help you pick out what’s right for you.
I’ve made myself incredibly thirsty now. I’m gonna go have a drink.

What a fabulous wine store. Before I wandered around this store I had just assumed that it was your average, run of the mill, liquor stop. Well, it is not! It is really is something special; a place that has very knowledgeable staff and owners that carry a plethora of amazing wines from excellent vineyards. Yes, there are your everyday wines, your table wines and such. But there is also row upon row of special, exquisite vi nos from all around the world. If you are looking for a store to buy a special bottle, to try something new or to give as a gift, I definitely suggest going to Aligra. There also is quite a large selection of champagne (which I adore!). Oh, and up at the till I found the coolest thing: wine wipes to get rid of wine stained lips! Hilarious and so awesome!
