Al-Habib Pizza and Donair is located right across the street from the big baseball bat on 118th avenue. As soon as I walked in I knew this place was«different» from the other donair shops in town. Well, for one, they have prison-like bars separating the patrons from the cashiers and cooks. I guess they feel they need protection for being open 24 hours, but prison bars? And secondly, they had WWE wrestling blaring loudly on the tv sets in the restaurant. Devout Muslims watching WWE wrestling with rapt attention? The end must be near. Alright, well onto the food. I ordered a Greek salad, small poutine and a beef donair with extra cheese and tzuiki sauce. Everything came out at once and I dived into the poutine as it is best eaten piping hot. The fries were over cooked and hard making them tough to eat. And I didn’t like the gravy as I found it too salty. The greek salad was large and okay. The donair seemed pretty bland to me. The tzuiki sauce was really weak and I didn’t taste much of anything to be frank. Total cost was $ 26. Bottom line: Almost any other donair shop in town is better than Al-Habib. The food is inferior and the atmosphere just plain sucks. I won’t be coming back here again.
