Ok this is where i go when i miss my ‘mommy’. It’s comfort east african food. The place isn’t amazing, but it’s a rarity in Toronto anyway, so i go. Tanzania is interesting because the cuisine is a mixture of african, indian and arabic, heavily reflecting the make up of the country. Talk of the Town, commonly known as TOT is predominantly indian influenced If you want to try different indian food, this is the place to go. Here are some things to order or not order: Warning though, this place is a little ghetto but worth it. My favourite comfort dish is Kuku Pakka which is basically a chicken curry, but based on coconut. The akni is like a dry biryani, predominantly coconut flavoured. The kara kababs(which means black kababs) are a must because it’s kababs(minced meat, onions, garlic, cilantro) dreep fried with a crispy crispy crust and soft inside. must be had with coconut chutney. But only have them if freshly made. Otherwise, don’t bother. Mishkaki is skewered meat with fat. I only order this if they have made adnani mix for the day(corn starch potato stew) because it’s not that good here. mix is awesome coz you literally mix in mishkaki, spicy tapioca chips, chutney, etc into a bowl and eat up the spicy goodness. Not even comparable to my mums though. Mogo(cassava or tapioca) split in half, cut in pieces, put on bbq and then served with a salt mixture and chili mixture with a lime cut in half to baste with. My all time favourite if made well. This place doesn’t do a great job but i’m biased because i grew up eating this off the streets during summer. Ugali, kinda like porridge is terrible here. There’s other dishes too, like the ribs, etc. It’s a venture and discovery. Talk to the owner/server. She/he will help you out in deciding. it’s just a different experience.
