When I was 14⁄15 my friend Rob broke some stunning news to us. He told us that he was giving up eating pork products. Needless to say we were taken aback and less than understanding. We asked him his reasons, as if anything he could say would excuse his giving up bacon. He told us «Pigs are one of the top 5 smartest species on the planet. I’m not going to eat a dolphin or a chimp, how could I eat a pig?» Now, looking back with an additional 10+ years of wisdom, that seems admirable, but at the time it was the craziest thing I’d ever heard. So, myself and a third friend dedicated to undermining his efforts and so we endeavoured to each eat double the pork as long as Rob refused to. The idea being that he was actually responsible for the deaths of more pigs by holding out. Anyway, long story short, that’s why I’ve been getting Ham w/Bacon every time I go to Subway for the last 12 years.

I go here on the rare occasion when I get that sub craving. Clean premises and for the most part, friendly competent staff. Usually best to get here around 11:30 for lunch time, it can line up pretty quickly after that. Lots of parking but can be a bit of a wait trying to get back on to Ilsley, especially of turning left out of the parking lot. I tend to have them put all the veg on it just so I feel like I’m getting my money’s worth. It might be just me, but it seems no matter what sub I get, they all taste the same, therefore, I’ll sometimes just get a veggie sub with cheese and satisfy the craving on the cheap.

So today i made my lunch early, stowed it in the fridge to keep cool, and left it there. Realized that when I got to work. How dissappointing. So i headed over to my nearest Subway! Why? because I didn’t want the typical fast food, burgers and fries. I opted for the somewhat healthier option. This subway is flat out busy during the lunch hour, and today was no exception. But the wonderful«sandwich artists’ at this locale are fast, and fantastic. They ran through a line of 12 people in no time, without missing a beat, or messing anything up,(to my knowledge) They seemed happy, and courteous to everyone that passed through. Very happy with my lunch time decision, and I’ll be back… especially the next time i forget my lunch at home!

I’ve always found Subway a great food solution when I’m in a hurry and want something both filling and not greasy. I also enjoy their numerous healthy options. Although I tend to ruin the subs healthy status by adding extra cheese and puddles of ranch dressing. This particular Subway is newer and the dining room has been clean and bright every time I’ve visited. I like the employees at this location, they never seem to be harried or stressed out in their sandwich making ventures. There is also a convenient drive thru. Parking is good and it’s easy to get back into Burnside with minimal effort. I like this location because it’s usually very quiet and never extremely busy when I go. There is also the little known secret that on Sundays all six inch subs are buy one get one for 99 cents. A great option if you’re low on funds. Just make sure you buy a drink or you don’t get the deal.
