I normally like to go a place a few times before I give it a review but I just couldn’t resist raving about this place after my first visit.
I’ve had a hard time getting my hair cut. For quite a few years, I just shaved my own head (cheap + easy!). But I decided a while back to grow my hair out and was having trouble getting a good cut. I hate to say it but many hair salons do great women’s hair but terrible men’s hair. With a trip coming up, I decided to look into a barbershop. And this place just opened up near me, so why not here?
Let’s talk prices. I assumed it was going to be expensive. NOPE. $ 16 for a men’s cut, Taxes in! I opted to get a beard treatment (trim, shave, conditioning, etc.). $ 16. Taxes in again!
Once I got there, I was impressed by the look. They clearly were trying to get «vintage barber shop with a hint of retro/​modern» and they succeeded. Lots of nice little touches (e.g. spray bottles being Jack Daniels bottles) give it personality without seeming forced.
Of course, you really come for the service and it was perfect. Jeremy was friendly and welcoming. He listened to what I wanted and made some suggestions (which were actually what I’d been thinking of doing before changing my mind). We chatted and he clipped. It’s kind of weird not facing the mirror (as most salons have you do) but it was kind of nice. Just trust the barber. He turned me around and there was the haircut that I’d been trying to get for months.
The shave was … well, I’ve never had a professional beard treatment (Heck, I’ve only had a beard for just over a month). It was cool. Very relaxing, even. I can now say I’ve had a shave with a straight razor. I mean, yeah, I didn’t do the shaving, but that’s not this point.
So big thumbs up from this guy, right here. I’ll be back.
One last tip: while this place is not «by appointment only,» it’s probably a wise idea to schedule an appointment since they take their time to do service right and that could mean a long wait. Plus, you can book your reservation online. How convenient!
