OK — for full disclosure — I am old — at least ½ way through any expectation for a long happy life. So «in my day» buying liquor involved going up to a small caged window and whispering a request to a unseen clerk who would slip back an unseen bottle in a brown bag. But today things are quite different. Take my experience at the Tacoma Street NSLC — where I was greeted by a Budweiser girl, offering me a nice cold beer that she had just pored — especially for me! How could I refuse — something about a big special promotion for a football game coming up soon;-) Well there is nothing like a Bud girl and free beer to put me in the mood for shopping. And this is a great store to buy the essentials for the SuperBowl. Its large, spacious, well laid out. Today there was a centre display with some good wines on sale — again«in my day» there were no such thing as sales on booze. There was a sales person who pleasantly offered assistance regarding single malt scotch — and other NSLC offerings. There’s lots of parking, although it was very busy today with people making their way in and out of the adjoining grocery store. I left with all hands and arms full of supplies that I hope will last beyond the big game. I will also take with me a great feeling about this store, the great service — and the hope that every time I shop there, there will be a Bud girl with a cold beer to great me.

Much like the NSLC located by the Superstore on the other side of Portland Street, this location is nice, shiny and new. It seems a bit smaller than the other, but is always beautiful on the inside and stocked with one of the wider selections in Dartmouth(especially compared to the ancient-by-comparison store on the Forest Hills Parkway). The staff is friendly and accommodating, usually with one or two people working the floor specifically to make sure customers find what they’re looking for — a welcome change compared to other store policies of «we’ll help you, but you have to find us first.»
