As someone who loves to craft and loves a bargain, Atlantic Fabrics is where it’s at. I don’t really enjoy driving all the way into ‘deep Dartmouth’, but the prices are so much better than Fabricville, that I don’t mind. The selection is good; stock could be better organized and kept more tidily. The service is somewhat passive — all of the lovely sales ladies enjoy a good conversation and move at their own pace, so I’m not really complaining, just noticing that I like to move faster than the average here. It seems like all Atlantic Fabric locations have a bit of a dingy appearance on the inside — I’ve been to a few throughout the province and they all feel the same; at least that’s consistency, I guess. It’s almost like having a time warp experience because all of the posters look like they were created with Word ’97! Again, I’ll take my deals the way they come, but I wish that the overall aesthetic could be better.

I love this store! The staff are always friendly and willing to help when you’re looking for something to fit your needs whether it’s hot pink sheer fabric for curtains or a shiny star fabric for that galaxy themed quilt. The store is large and always has decent prices. It has everything from fabric to yarn to beads. The selection could be a little better for the fashion fabrics while the quilting cottons have quite a large selection to choose from. They offer a membership that comes with discounts and they also offer classes if you’re new to sewing or want to learn a new skill/hobby. Definitely check these guys out if you need to pick up a gift for someone in your life that does crafts.

The selection is wonderful, even in the sales and clearance sections. The staff was helpful. It was worth the trip.

I was actually quite blown away by this store the first time I walked in, it’s huge, and has a lot to offer, way more than I would have imagined! Obviously fabric and sewing supplies are their mainstay, but they also have large sections of home décor and craft items as well. Price wise they are very affordable, especially compared to the competition. The staff are always friendly as well, and happy to answer any questions I may have.

I have always been a fabric-lovin’ kinda girl,(crafty too!) and though I don’t sew in a serious way, I have been known to break out the pinking shears and glue gun — especially around Halloween and Christmas. Atlantic Fabrics has just about everything you can imagine when it comes to sewing supplies, and a whole lotta craft stuff too. I like digging through the remnant shelves, perusing all the colours and patterns of the mysteriously named«fat quarters» in the quilting section, They offer some seasonal decorative items along with the piles of fabric and notions, and many classes, from the more predictable(quilts, quilts and more quilts!) to home décor like roman shades and gift-makin’ ideas like fleece-y mittens and PJ pants. Whether you are hardcore into the needlework, are just looking for some thread to stitch a button back on, or somewhere in between, Atlantic Fabrics is your best bet. Sew there!

So I went into Atlantic Fabrics as a last attempt for getting what I needed for my Halloween costume and I have to say that I was delightfully surprised by the level of customer service I received there. I was every Fabric Stores worst nightmare — a girl who didn’t know how to sew and had no clue what she wanted. In spite of the fact that the store was very busy and there were other people waiting, everyone was very anxious to help me, and genuinely interested in my needs. I left there very pleased with my purchases, for the prices that I’d paid and the help that I’d received. I was also happy to discover that they sold more than just fabric, as I even managed to get some great Halloween decorations at 40% off! Atlantic Fabrics is a great store and I recommend anyone to go there, regardless of your project and your level of expertise.

I would rate this store, hands down, as the best fabric store in Halifax and Dartmouth, and the best craft store ever. The only reason I didn’t go for all five stars is that its selection in the ‘fashion fabric’ area is pretty small. There are plenty of denims and lots of suiting, but nothing you can really make a nice dress out of. But I think the place is fantastic when it comes to all other areas. Areas such as: sparkly fabric of all types outdoor fabric quilting fleeces FOAM and pillow forms of every shape and size yarn — so much yarn, and even roving for knitting trim and ribbon — this place almost gives Dressew a run for its money(almost) reasonable prices helpful staff scrap booking general craftiness They have a some felting needles behind the counter, and I bought some basic ones. Then, instead of getting the little ten dollar felting brush mat, I went to the foam section and picked up a big section from the cut foam bin for 35 cents. I also left with a very nice piece of card stock from the scrap book section for 25 cents. Atlantic fabrics = craft heaven. If they would only get some more nice wearable fabric, I’d never go anywhere else.
