Ah c’mon, your stuck on a mountain on a beautiful island in the Pacific. .. You want table service? All you got is Fat Teddy’s at Mt. Washington. I’ve had an A-OK lunch here four times the past two months — it’s either this — or cafeteria, self-serve fare, or BYO lunch. This the first time in my over ten year membership at Mt. Wash that I feel A-OK about Fat Ted’s. Here’s what’s improved… The menu is varied enough to cover carbo-loaders, junk food junkies and the health conscious. Quality of preparation is consistent. Even if a lot of it is Sysco-food, at least it is prepared as expected. Chicken tenders are crisp outside, moist inside. Chicken burgers are a seasoned small breast, no coating, which is good. Burgers are frozen patties, yet cooked properly with good selection of toppings. Bread or buns are fresh tasting. Side salads are freshly bowled, nicely balanced with tomatoes, cuke, greens, carrots, cabbage, etc., with side dressing. I suggest the raspberry. Service is attentive, friendly and timely. This is a contrast to what I saw over the years with lax service, brown tinged salad, dried out buns, and overcooked burgers, and what appeared to be indifference. Improvements and care now noted. Note, Tabasco and HP Sauce readily available if you need. Left to work on are more affordable prices, and the overly thick soups that taste pailed. How about a discount for members? On a powder alert day, Fat Teddy’s gets a higher rating. Everything’s good on those days, and faster service appreciated. Overall for the 12⁄13 season they get 3 overall average. Better tasting, improved presentation and service, in my 10-year experience. If you don’t agree, remember — keep the focus on snow, tubing, skiing or boarding and the breathtaking viewscapes. .. . And the food tastes better.
