The Brick

They don’t tell you they don’t have the item before you pay and you have to go and pick it up to the warehouse which closes before the store does. Really annoying

well, where do I begin! I had delivered 2 items… BOTH WERE BROKEN/​MISSING PIECES! the process of declining the broken and waiting to receive/​exchange the missing items has been tremendously difficult. They make me feel as though I am the problem… just finished talking to them an the lady ‘helping’ me Jessica hung up while still talking. I will never purchase there again, nore would I recommend it. Another thing… when purchasing the items, they were going on sale the following day for almost 40% off and nobody bothered to mention it. I negotiated a fair price and when all of these issues came up they had the audacity to say ‘we gave you this much off… etc’… I replied ‘actually it was on sale for even less 10 hours later?! so actually I paid more than I should have!
Details are great in reviews like this so that both the company and future buyers can reflect.

The sales folks and the managers for the most part are helpful and try to help but the customer service desk is extremely unhelpful.
Just purchased the new bed and mattress. It was to be delivered to us. I also paid the $ 10 disposal fee for the old box spring to be picked up. The day prior to the delivery my wife and I decided it’s best to have them also pickup the old mattress. Remembering there is an additional $ 10 that needs to be paid I went to the brick to request the mattress to be picked up and pay the fee. Right of the bat the lady at the customer service was rude and didn’t seen to want to help. She preceded to tell me that she can’t contact the delivery team and I should have had this done when iI bought the bed not now. I explained to her that my wife and I made the decision today not when we bought the bed and didn’t see what the big deal is. I’m welling to pay also !! When I finally realized she just was not welling to help me I asked if I could cancel the full order and reorder so I can include the old mattress disposal in the order. Her response was: «that’s not how we do things around her» Really! I decided to walked away. On the way out one of the managers asked if they could help. After explaining the need for the old mattress removal he quickly told me it would not be a problem, gave me a bag for the mattress and told me don’t worry about paying for the removal fee. What a nice man!
I like to add this is the second time I have problem with their customer service people specially the customer services manger.
I think I’ll take my business else where next time around.

Terrible company with terrible rules! I hope they go out of business soon. This is not how you should do business!
I understand that the market is slow and business may not be as great as it was few years ago but you can’t do business like this otherwise you go out of business altogether.
I’m afraid have to agree with those who rate this store low. As soon as they take your money the company does not want to deal with you anymore. they sell you $ 100 pillow and two weeks later it flattens and you call customer serive and they say «it is normal» and that pillow sales are final and no exchanges alowed. Are you kidding me? This is not my first time buying or using a pillow. You charge high for a low quality product and call it final?
Also bought an adjustable bed (floor model) and fourth day after delivered it was not working. Called customer service and they said it is not returnable or repairable by Brick and that I have to call manufacturer and because it was a floor model for two years the warranty did not cover shipping or labour! stuck with a non working adjustable bed that I bought less than a month ago! You call this standing behind your products? You like stealing people’s money!

Had a bit of a strange experience here once. We were looking for a sofa for our condo but really just browsing around as we weren’t moving for another 5 months. This guy kept following us around, even when we told him we weren’t buying anything. Then, we ended up in the TV department and I made the most horrible mistake of asking a question… before we knew it there were 3 sales people cornering us and pushing us into this 37″ TV that we DID NOT need. I humoured them a bit and asked a couple more questions. Before we knew it, this older sales guy comes out of the back with a brand new TV in a box and starts ringing it up, tax and all!!! I stood there in shock and asked the guy, «what are you doing??» the other younger sales guy could see how un-​impressed i was and whispered to the older guy to calm it down. We left there in dis-​belief but laughed about it later…

Unbelieveably inept salesperson… I think he and all of the brick salespeople have memorized the sales techniques featured in the movie «Glengarry Glenross». Against my better judgement I accepted an invitation thru work for a VIP experience like none other last Thursday. I would recieve «special pricing» for this oh so special event. I was kinda desperate for a new sofa so I thought I would take a peek… what a mistake that was!
I explained to my «salesperson» that I need a new sofa, bed and TV so by buying all three from him, I would expect a really good deal. He said he would do his very best (LLPOF) I looked at a cheap sofa listed at $ 498, he ran to the computer and told me that I was in luck, it was «on sale» for $ 339. I then said to him that I had been given a «special VIP invitation» and asked what additional discount I would be entitled to? He stated the $ 339 price reflected the VIP discount. I advised him that he quoted that price before finding out about my VIP invitation. He then said that he always gives the VIP pricing to anyone that walks thru the door.(LLPOF again) He said that is the only discount he could give and that was that.
IN OTHER WORDS… THE «SPECIAL VIP» INVITATION IS JUST A COME ON TO GET YOU THROUGH THE DOOR AND IS MEANINGLESS. NEEDLESS TO SAY OUR COMPANY WILL NOT BE SENDING OUT ANYMORE EMAILS TO OUR CLOSE TO 1,000 EMPLOYEES BECAUSE OF THIS MISLEADING ADVERTISING.
All I can say to the personel of the brick is that MITCH and MURRAY from downtown would be proud!
ps LLPOF is short form for «LIAR, LIAR, PANTS ON FIRE!»
PS Bought the bed at sleep country and the tv at costco… to bad brick!

This The Brick in United Boulevard seems to be the biggest in the Lower Mainland and the one with the most variety.
I personally don’t like their stuff very much, most of their things seem pretty cheap (and by cheap I mean low prices but also sometimes, low quality and I think that’s why I am not always 100% convinced). Lots of fake leather, not real wood and dated designs.
But, honestly, what always keeps me away from The Brick is their sales people!
For real, the last time we went there last week, we had this young girl that said hi as soon as we walked into the store (that is great, acknowledging clients makes them feel welcomed), she asked if we were looking for anything specific, we said no, we are just browsing around, thanks very much (do you know that «do not bug me» kinda body language?). We started walking around and she kept coming out of nowhere, right in front of us or behind us (that was really creepy! lol). I think we were in the store for less than 10 minutes, she just totally scared us out of there.
*Note to Sales people: if someone says their browsing around, leave them alone! Chances are if they want something, they would go to you to ask questions. Don’t miss a possible sale by pushing!
Going back to the review, The Brick is a 3 star store for me, I will still visit them once in a while if I need something for the house (a couple of times I found nice stools for the kitchen as well as a love seat for a family room for a very good price) but please keep the sales team away from me!!! Thanks!

I had a few issues:
Pro’s:
They have a good assortment of furniture and some really awesome sales. In fact I went here right after leaving IKEA and the sales here were better then what IKEA was offering. So my Issues might be overlooked just because of the quality and price of the merchandise.
Cons:
I go into the store, A salesman (foreign guy, speaks good English,) catches me right off the bat, I take his name and tell him I will yell for him if I need him. After gawking at a few pieces of furniture my GF and I narrow it down to three of things, a leather couch and love seat combo and a 8 drawer dresser with mirror. We call the guy to talk about the sales and go back an forth on a couple other pieces. As my GF and I talk about our options and make a decision, we try to let the salesman know, he cuts us off to greet another gentlemen of similar race to himself, I am guessing that they were family, because he didn’t even excuse himself as he walked off with the gentlemen. My GF just waited patiently for what seemed like 10 or 15 minutes watching our salesman on the other corner of the store taking the other guy around to show him items. I admit I was beginning to feel a little bit dissed! I was trying (at a distance) to get the guys attention and wave him back to us, but he kept turning away from us so we could never get eye contact. After a while another salesman walks up to us and asks if he can help and we tell him we where working with another guy but he walked off. So the salesman went off and paged him for us.
Our salesman finally looks over to us and not with a happy face, he walks over to another sales lady pulls her away from a customer and bring her over to us and tell us she will take care of us and then he walks away. ??? I won’t tell you how that made me feel because I don’t want to get emotional. (sniff sniff). :)
The lady that help us, was AWESOME! Very polite and helpful. and helped us with our purchase. We bought the three items mentioned above on the 8^th and paid 100 bucks to have it redelivered on the following Saturday 14^th between 11 — 5, we could have had them deliver earlier but neither my GF or myself could take time off from work. Yaay, we Junk our current dressers and couches in preparation for the delivery.
Saturday they call us to apologize, telling us they could not fit our furniture on the truck… ARG!!! I complain because all our cloths are in piles all over the room and we just got rid of our couches, Yes we have dinning chairs and boy they are comfy to sit on for a two hour movie (NOT!!) So they promise us to get it on the truck the next day, Sunday! Wow OK, I can deal with that, one more day, YES! No worries.
We decide that since our day had been given back to us, we would take a break and go drop off some recycle (TV, and stuff for Value-​village) on our way to a breakfast place in Burnaby we herd about from fellow UnilocalERS! WOOT WOOT!
We leave Vancouver drop off all recycle and donations and make it to Burnaby when we get a call telling us that the truck is 30 minutes away from getting to our apartment. I was like… «What the Heck?» !! Come to find out they have our couches on the truck but not the dresser. ARG!!! We turn around and rush back to the apartment and just manage to meet them there at the same time. PHEW! And OH BOY DOES IT LOOK GOOD in our living room. Woooowhoo! One day wasted but have a nice looking Living room. Yaay!
We still have to re-​arrange all our cloths piles off the bed and the next day, we stick around the apartment this time taking any chances. About 3:30pm we start getting a little impatient and decide to call. No one knows where our dresser is. I was like «What the Heck?» !!! Seriously. !!! ARG!!! after getting forwarded to several departments (hours on and off the phone) and finally promised a call back, (More hurry up and wait) we get a call saying the guys forgot to load it on the truck sorry, we wil have to deliver another day! Will Monday work for you? NO!!! Tuesday? NO!!! Nor will Wed, Thur, Fri… !! ARG! So Now I am waiting till Next Saturday, between 11 and 5. Seriously!
My GF says she will never shop at the Brick again and hates having to live with all her cloths in strategic piles. I personally think that the money we saved in this purchase may be good enough to grant my forgiveness. The thing that REALLY bugs me more then them not delivering (or living with my cloths on the floor) is me having to reschedule my Sunday plans and waste another day for nothing… ARG! Fingers crossed for this Saturday.

I never was a fan of the brick, for the longest time they had pretty tacky furniture and a high price. Back in the day their biggest thing was buying without having any money, and when I was young that was just fine with me, well until 6 months passed.
I like clean, modern looking furniture and I never went to the Brick looking for such things. Well we went back there and I have to say what a difference time has made. They have a much better selection of furniture, clean showroom and the prices are quite reasonable. Sure the leather purists out there better be on guard because I think the lower costs will mean cutting corners on fabrics but I guess you get what you pay for.
Now even though we didn’t buy anything it was still fun reclining almost every couch and sofa in the store. Want to play a game? Find the electric arm chairs that stand you up, try to see how high you can go without falling out.
