The service from one guy is very bad! He shouldn’t be serving customers with his attitude. There were empty seats everywhere and because he didn’t want to walk to a further table he argued with us and forced us to adjust to whatever he wanted. What kind of server does that? I’m shocked. Also when I had bbq there I had a stomach ache. I’ve seen reviews about this but it’s seriously a problem.

Great food and very positive attitude from the management team. Our group was treated like royalty and everyone left very happy with the experience.

I’m not a huge fan of Korean food and can probably count on one hand the number of times I’ve been to a Korean restaurant but I came here with my Korean friend and was pleasantly surprised. The cuisine is definitely spicy for my liking but the pork belly here was really good. The servers are younger guys that are very friendly and helpful, one even came up to our table with a pack of wetnaps and offered to show us how to wrap and eat the food knowing that 3 out of 4 of us weren’t familiar with this style of cuisine. Not a huge fan of sitting on the ground but the ambiance is definitely unique. Bill came to about $ 30/person for dinner including some soju and although I probably wouldn’t come again, at least not by myself, it was a pretty good experience. Seems strange how polarizing some of these reviews are but the only person to give this place a one star review ONLY gives one star reviews. Real credibility there, don’t let these Unilocalers dissuade you from coming to this establishment, wish Unilocal would let you down vote or say that a review is not helpful.

First of all, I’ve eaten a lot of sam gyup sal in my life, having lived in Korea for over a year, and knowing a lot of Koreans. You will pay a lot of money for a small portion of barely average sam gyup sal, and you will leave still feeling hungry. Pros: good pork, some western style tables Cons: only five slices of pork, with two mushrooms, four cloves of garlic and two slices of tofu total, for two people. came with two soups, but they were again very small. and for all of this, we paid around $ 38 for two. We also both had a stomach ache a couple hours after we left. We blame the bean sprouts. We left still feeling hungry, and feeling very disappointed. We won’t go back.

Horrible, horrible service. Getting items we ordered was like pulling teeth. No water refills, small portions and expensive. Oh and they don’t take cards without chips and there are no signs that say that… had the WORST restaurant experience of our lives

We were told to come here by my significant other’s Korean friend. The same friend later joined us for dinner and it was incredible to watch how he managed to finish one portion of pork belly AND one portion of boneless beef short ribs all by himself. My significant other and I came here after a good work out at the gym. We ordered a pork belly $ 15.95, a boneless beef short ribs $ 20.97 and a bowl of kimchi soup. When you order BBQ there’s a minimum order of two so you can’t just order one pork belly or one set of ribs. You either order minimum two of pork or two of ribs or one of each. The BBQ dinner comes with egg drop soup, white rice, green leaf lettuce, and salad tossed in light vinaigrette. I usually prefer boneless beef short ribs over pork belly but somehow this place just nailed the pork belly. The crispy belly fat melts gently in your mouth and when you bite into the meat, you get an explosion of juice and flavor. The meat is already good on its own but to take it to the next level, use the soy bean dipping sauce. You’ll thank your mother for giving you life. Kimchi soup was alright. I knew I wasn’t getting kimchi soft tofu soup with raw egg but it was fine. I wished there was more kimchi because all I tasted was mild spicy broth, which was slightly on the salty side and one dimensioned. Towards to end of the meal our waiter, the son of the owners took away our left over cooked meats. He came back with rice and vegetables already mixed in with our meats and spreaded the rice over the portable flat top. The sizzling sound where the rice(oiled generously with sesame oil) got in contact with the hot flat top, got me excited. I thought I was done with the food but seeing and smelling the rice, how can I refuse? The three of us polished it off. Not a single grain left. The food was fabulous. Would definitely return.

I went here with some friends and the food was very good. It was a large party so I’m gonna let you all know that you may be seated on the floor like at a traditional Korean place. I personally can’t be doing that any more cause of leg problems but I won’t be taking stars off for that kind of thing. We ordered some of the famous BBQ pork belly, and of course, it was excellent(pants required changing when I got home). Came with sides and everything for the ssam, of course. Anyways, good atmosphere, friendly wait-staff(though my Korean friend did all of the talking), and good food make this a great place to go. Will be back soon~ DaSHAWN«Gwiyomi» Haynes-Warren

It was a bright sunny afternoon when I entered your establishment. You would not seat me, I waited. I said hello can we sit, you ignored. I asked to look at a menu, you briefly spoke amongst yourselves. I went to grab a menu that I saw, you yelled something I could not understand at me and gestured with your hands. I left.

This place is awesome. The pork belly BBQ is just super delicious, as are all the condiments. Even the egg soup is delish. I had sort of forgotten about how good it all is and just remembered that a fun place to go with friends with decent eats, etc. But this is one of the tastiest restaurants around. The server is really helpful and friendly. And they have mak geol li(unfiltered rice wine) which is nice and thick and tasty. Last time I was there, a somewhat drunken Korean man who turns out to be the Hite and soju rep gave us a free bottle of each and had us do poktanju(soju bomb!). Can’t say enough good things about this place.

Sometimes little things makes me really happy. Take for example my discovery of Seok Gi Si Dae Restaurant in Coquitlam. I’m excited because it closely resembles dinner in South Korea and also because I’m reviewing something Sherman has yet blogged about(I assume you know what I’m talking about if you are a local Vancouverite). This authentic Korean restaurant is located on Clark Road(North Road)/ Como Lake beside KFC. It is not glamorous nor trendy but it offers really authentic Korean cuisine. Their menu is limited and doesn’t offer you the moon but their specialty BBQ meats are pork belly $ 15.95 /person and boneless beef short ribs $ 20.97 /person and comes with miso soup, rice, and lettuce to wrap your meat in. If your favourite Korean BBQ restaurant does not offer you lettuce or greens, you should ask for it. No place should save a few cents and discount you this experience. Step to eat Korean BBQ 1. Rip the lettuce in half along the stem 2. Place a small piece of cooked meat 3. Add some kimchi, bean sprouts, garlic or other garnish in 4. Add some bean paste or chili paste 5. Wrap 6. Eat! The overall experience is explosive but the lettuce lightens the greasiness of it all. There are two separate seating areas — the Westernized table settings and the traditional Korean table settings where you are sitting cross-legged on the floor on cushions. I hope you are flexible or have been going to Yoga for Stiff Bodies because what I found amusing was Dave and a lot of my guy friends had issues sitting over long periods. They ended up standing and walking around. The walls are decorated with Korean lettering which KPOP bops in the background. . Seok Gi Si Dae is a family owned mom and pop restaurant and their son helps out doing the heavy lifting — transported the yummy goodness to your table and the BBQ stoves. Service can get slow if it is really busy, but they are super friendly and attentive is hard to knock them on that. You have to understand. Good food requires patience! Come with an empty stomach, the portions are very generous! Korean Egg Soup Korean Miso Soup Kimchi Tofu Soup Seafood Pancake Kimchi Fried Rice Hite Korean Beer tastes quite similar to a Kokanee. The mark turns blue at optimal tasting temperature! BTW Anyone want to teach me Korean? I’ve always wanted to learn! I’m serious!

I’ve been to this«Stone Age» Korean BBQ house more than 5 times now in the past four years. Let me begin to say that I’ve never had any service issue at this place and nothing even remotely close to what the other reviewer had experienced. Other than the fact that they are always short staffed being a family run restaurant and with very limited English speaking staff, this place is my favorite Korean BBQ in the lower mainland. Their specialty and only available meat on the menu are pork belly and boneless beef short ribs. Each order comes w/a miso soup and bowl of rice plus lettuce and all the wrap ingredients. If you like Korean BBQ, this is the place to go.
