HadI went through the whole order process only to be told they don’t have a debit machine? They do deliveries but only take cash or credit. As frustrating as that is the food is consistent, and the staff is nice.

Some good solid sushi, great party platters, good prices. They do deliveries as well after 5pm, which I found surprising but really convenient. I got the Gem roll last time, it had fried tuna, tobiko, and some crazy tasty spicy sauce on it, I’m definitely getting that again because it was great.

Mediocre sushi at best, they don’t care about plating. Sloppy and unattractive. Avocados they use are over ripe, if you ask for philly roll good lucky finding the cream cheese.

5:30 on a Saturday and we entered the place with half the tables full, and the other half loaded with dirty old settings. The two gentleman operating the joint were paying attention to their takeout patrons rather than acknowledging and clearing a spot for the folks waiting at the door. It took about 15 minutes to get a seat. The food was not very impressive. Nothing seemed very fresh and everything was clearly made of low quality ingredients. Chunks of surimi for the imitation crab. Chewy nori. Spindly prawns. And with the rush the sushi chef was in, our makis were cut very irregularly. It was entertaining to watch the server rush around and bark orders at his patrons. He wasn’t grumpy, quite happy actually. Just very busy and on a mission.

My boyfriend was trying to convince me to get into sushi again. I previously ordered some at the mall a few years ago, and felt sick to my stomach and never wanted to eat it again. As he lives close by, we placed an order for delivery. I like tofu, so I ordered the tofu roll, along with some gyoza as I know I like those. The boyfriend ordered a Como roll which has shrimp tempura, cream cheese, yam, and smoked salmon and avocado on top. I believe he also ordered miso soup which I tried a bit of. I was very impressed with the tofu roll and somewhat impressed with the miso soup. Gyoza was good, and I tried a piece of his Como roll which I really liked! This place is the place that turned me on to sushi again. I still order the tofu roll but now I also order the smoked salmon, kappa roll, and avocado roll. I’m not vegetarian but I prefer vegetarian options. This place is not too expensive. We’ve eaten in as well and the décor is simple but amicable. Service is typical sushi restaurant service: quick and straight to the point. Eat it and beat it, you know? It’s one of my favourite places to go and sometimes I will drive the 20 minutes it takes me to get out there just to order some of my favourite items. Check it out, you can’t really go wrong.

Not bad for a neighborhood sushi place! Gives you a quick fix on the craving with good price! The lunch box, what I normally order, comes with Cali roll, tempura, chicken or beef teriyaki, miso soup, rice, salad, and a piece of orange. For $ 7 it’s really good!

This small Chinese owned sushi place is quite interesting. Great value and great pricing. Has all the basic Japanese rolls and nigiris and appies and salads. Got both udon or soba soup or fried. Funny part is: Toro Sashimi is only $ 6.95 compare to Tuna Sashimi which is $ 7.50. I guess the portions and sizes of each slice is different? Btw they don’t serve wild salmon…

Found this place a couple years ago and ordered takeout for delivery. I was impressed how quickly the order came. Reasonably priced and moderate food. Then we began to visit the place to eat in as it wasn’t really that far from us. Over the course of a few visits in a span of 6 or so months I noticed the atmosphere wasn’t all that family friendly oriented. Can’t really explain it but it just didn’t get that ‘warm’ fuzzy feeling that you can get from walking into a family neighbourhood restaurant. At one occasion my wife asked for a substitute on an order. Not a ridiculous request by any means and one that we have made in other Sushi restaurants before. The same guy(who I think is the owner) that delivered our food and pretty much is the waiter/manager/delivery guy said no, and pointed to the clause written in the bottom of the menu that states«no substitute». There was no sense of sympathy or maybe a brief explanation why. The answer was short and abrupt. Again, felt weird. In the end, not a big deal but I may reconsider driving abit farther down the road, waiting in line and eating at California Sushi knowing I will get a better bang for my dollar in terms of service, food, friendliness and atmosphere. If you look, the reviews are great for that place. I certainly wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone unless you are just darn hungry, nearby and need to grab some quick sushi.

Food is decent but the service is terrible! I went in there and made a simple request to have no avocado in my sushi roll and rather i requested to substitute the avacado for cucumber and was told that there would be an extra charge. I agreed to pay the extra money but simply asked why it would be more expensive and the waitor was not very pleasant about it. Okay so no problem pay a dollar extra we but my next issue was when my fiancée asked if he could have the thick noodles in his food he was told that he couldnt. When we asked to speak to the owner, the waitor took away pur menus and said«I can tell you are not happy» and turned around and walked away… There was no effort to correct the whole situation. Terrible!

Good little spot. Were not usually in this area, so we checked out the local sushi place. Miso is a little salty. Nice Green Tea in real Japanese cups, which is a nice touch. Bento box is a good deal at lunch 7.95 Staff is efficient and friendly. Washrooms are clean and nicely done Looks clean and fresh, with lots of seating No wifi

Been here 3 times since our favourite other sushi restaurant was closed for renos. Not bad, but not fantastic. I did quite like the Vancouver Roll: Avocado, Yam Tempura and Cream cheese. interesting roll I hadn’t experienced elsewhere. Everything else seemed rather ordinary though…

Came in here for the first time this evening… it was raining like mad outside. For a hole in the wall, this restaurant has a nice ambiance. It’s brightly lit and clean, and the padded chairs and hardwood tables create a warm feel. Soft, tasteful Japanese music played in the background. In contrast to the cold, wet weather outside, hot air caressed my legs under the table. Despite peeking my head below the table, I could not locate the source of this welcome, tropical breeze. I didn’t order anything too adventurous, the Maki Combo with tuna, salmon and vegetable maki. Miso soup and tea were served promptly, with the sushi following close behind. The quality was quite good, nothing negative to say, it tasted very fresh, and the portions of horseradish and wasabi were just right. I was pleasantly surprised to see domestic beer for $ 3.50 a bottle; where else could you find such a low price? Total came to $ 10.05 with the beer… nothing to complain about. A great experience; fast service, good food, low prices, decent portion sizes. My sushi restaurant of choice for the Blue Mountain area.

A really nice hole in the wall restaurant. Not the best I’ve had, but the owner is very friendly and the service is speedy. Worth a try.

Whenever I go to Coquitlam to visit friends I go here for lunch or dinner. If you want a better sushi restaurant you will have to go to Vancouver and most likely pay a lot more. I like to order a combo which has their version of a dynamite roll(very good, no fake crab), 2pc tuna, 2pc salmon, 2 pc ebi and miso soup for $ 9.50. Also the toro and tamago is very good.

Solid sushi joint. Great value for your money, especially the boxes. Wish I had lunch here yesterday. Lol. It’s small but busy, especially with take out. I had the box b which included sashimi. The portions of sashimi was on the smaller side but for 7.95 for that plus miso, 5 pieces of tempura(3 veg, 2 prawn) teriyaki(chicken or beef), salad(their dressing was ranch instead of the usual house vinigerette, so if you don’t want that, ask for it on the side), and 2 deep fried gyoza, I’m more than happy. I also ordered a spicy tuna roll with tempura bits on top for $ 3.50, which was actually spicy! :) If you’re in the hood, craving sushi, and wanting cheap but cheerful, you won’t be disappointed.

I’ve been looking for a sushi place in Coquitlam that doesn’t SUCK. I finally found ONE. Hooray! Gem Sushi is cheap, filling and delicious. i personally recommend their Vancouver Roll. You can go in and get a meal under $ 10 that can fill you up. I shall come back here again and order MORE vancouver rolls. The only reason I gave this place 4 stars was they didn’t come around to refill the tea. We had to call them over. It’s sort of wheelchair accessible. There are no stairs or anything. It’s a bit crowded. Not sure how the bathroom is since I didn’t use it. You may want to make a reservation ahead of time and let them know.

This is my favorite cheapy sushi place(over Sushi California, Sushi Town and I Love Sushi) based on value, portion size and quality. Not the fanciest of Japanese Restaurants, but on par with other Coquitlam Sushi joints. Its small and quaint, but not busy. Service is average, pleasant but not overly friendly. They have a good selection of cooked food and sushi on the menu. Also offered is DELIVERY! in the evenings. Bonus! My usual is Combo Box B for lunch or dinner as it includes quite a bit of food(Miso soup, salad, rice, gyozas, tempura, teriyaki chicken or beef, sashimi) for less than $ 10. And the rest of the menu is priced quite fairly. Parking sucks with the new renovations done to the lot, very poorly laid out. But that’s not the restaurant’s fault. I definitely recommend giving this place a try if you’re in the area and looking for an unfancy meal.
