I found this place driving down Highway 7 towards AMC and a good friend of mine had the case of the bathrooms. Traffic was bullocks and was filled with 18 wheelers at a dead stop. Found a crappy little truck stop looking plaza and stopped off for my buddy before my car gets defecated. Decided it would be a good idea to browse around as it would be a while til my friend was done and since I would never be back. I walked into Il Fornaio and was shocked by how busy it was and also by the delicious scent. Since that day I’ve been back multiple times. The best veal sandwich I’ve ever had. This small mom and pop joint seems to be family run. Everything here is fresh and homemade. Bread is killer, veal is tender, sauce is devine, and the hot peppers finish everything off nicely. I’ve yet to try the pasta but they look amazing. Gotta give it up to whoever is the Nonna in the back, as she’s cooking up a mean storm. The place is a little hole in the wall so décor is basically whatever they can throw together but food is great and you will not regret anything you get here. The Italian soap operas on are a nice homey touch. I have no idea why they are in such a crap location but all the local construction workers and truck drivers seem to know that this place is the bomb and have no problem filling them up every day. I think they are only opened for lunch as a few times when I’ve had a craving for dinner, there was not a soul in sight. Overall, the best veal sandwich ever. Prices are cheap too at $ 7 for a huge sandwich it will give that small place of at St. Lawrence a run for its money. If you are ever in the Concord/Woodbridge area around lunch, go here. Just don’t show up in a suit, you’ll definitely feel out of place. Jeans, flannel, and work boots are preferred.
