The Village At Blue Mountain

The Village at Blue Mountain is absolutely beautiful, and we enjoyed their amenities very much! However I am posting to warn people about a terrible experience we had with our rental company! DO NOT BOOK WITH STAY AT BLUE MOUNTAIN!!! They will steal your «Damage Deposit» even if you leave the rental unit better than you got it in! Without any consent or notice, they put through the $ 1500 that was required as a pre authorized damage deposit in order to stay. They are CROOKS! There is also a zero tolerance for noise in their units (we stayed at the Summit Ridge location) and you will receive a $ 615 ticket without a warning!, on top of them taking your $ 1500 damage deposit! Makes for a VERY expensive weekend! The management is a NIGHTMARE to deal with! Very rude and degrading.
Save yourself the trouble (and a bunch of money!) and book somewhere else!

It’s a pretty nice place to be, there are shops, there are bars and restaurants as well. We were here on the weekdays just to avoid the crowds. I could only imagine how lively it must be on those days. I bet they’d have the the big fire pit all lit up with crowds and crowds and crowds of people around it.
We came to snowboard, so this review is for the ski resort.
There are slopes on top of slopes and it’s actually very good. I like the fact that they’re constantly making fresh snow so that people aren’t carving on ice instead. It’s really a very nice resort, it has tons of high speed lifts, so that you can spend more time shredding and less time dangling on the chairs.
The runs are actually very good. They have a great variety of runs so you never actually run out of combinations and sets to shred on. There are lodges at both ends and in the middle of the resort, so there’s always a place to warm up and rest a little bit in between runs.
The resort is two thumbs up amazing. It was almost non stop carving from afternoon to close. That’s if your legs doesn’t give out first. Only minor detail I could mention is that none of the lodges had an open fire pit/​place. I guess I was a little spoiled shedding my gear and warming it up by the fire like the resorts in the states.
We had a lot of fun here. And I wish to see blue mountain again. I hope you guys enjoy as well. CHEERS!

Like to eat mediocre overpriced food in a sweltering environment loaded with flies? Pick any restaurant in the Village.
Sadly this place has been living on its reputation the past few years. Used to be great, now not so much.

A very cute village but due to it being a big tourist attraction, the prices for food or any other shops are quite pricey. I come here both during the winter and summer time and there are always many people and many activities to do. Also, make sure to check the weather before purchasing any tickets because tickets are non refundable but they do have a one ear policy where you can return and use it another time.

Would for recommend everyone to explore this area at least once.

Haven’t been to the village very often, but every time I do I tend not want to leave. It’s a cozy spot that serves comfort food, including the food court in the south lodge of the ski resort, which I always get my burger fix in between the morning and afternoon slopes.
The night is even more beautiful during the day, and whether you are taking a date or family or bunch of crazy college friends out, the lodges/​chalets got every assortment to choose from (as long as it’s not the peak season and you are booking last minute of course).
The rental shops are conveniently located at 4 (so I noticed, could be more) spots evenly spread across the frontier of lifts, as well as the north and south lodges, serving as great warm-​up/​resting spots for accompanying family or skiers themselves.
Parking is a little difficult if you don’t go first thing in the morning, but if you are staying on blue mountain premise, they got s shuttle ready to take you around.
All in all, Ontario skiing is really sad as we know compared to what the west coast offers, which I miss dearly, but Blue is the best you got price vs quality wise in the province.

Best runs around Ontario. Lots of runs, beautiful village and great food choices!
This resort offers greats experiences for beginners and experience riders. However, over the years the prices has slowly gone up. Not cool… but I guess that the price you pay to enjoy the winter.
The slopes are nicely groomed at all times. The lifts are jam packed and rentals line ups are long… this is how beautiful this place is. Great for a date and a group outing. Blue mountain also offers chalets for weekend which are pricey, but not break your bank expensive.
The village offers wonderful food. I recommend the poutine and a beavertail dessert. It is delicious!
For the first timers. Dress warm and bring cash. Trust me it’s easier than credit cards. Good luck and ride the powder.

I’m not a skier, I certainly do not have the balance for that, but a stroll through the village is an awesome way to clear your head. Well kept grounds, nice stores, and just an overall vibe of serenity. Also, the ice skating in the winter is incredibly romantic; my fiancé proposed while we were ice skating on New Year’s Eve in 2014.

When contemplating a ski day/​weekend in Ontario, your options can be plentiful or limited depending on your expectations and level of experience. For the beginner the options are limitless (heck you can ski down the hill in your local park if you’d like). But for those more experienced ski/​snowboarders you’ve really only got a couple of options and Blue Mountain is your best bet hands down.
This season they recently opened a new chair lift and 6 additional runs which in my opinion are the best they’ve yet to produce! Each of the new runs is longer and while only Blue and Green (Medium and Easy) the grooming and design allow you to make your run as easy or difficult as you like. Head to these new runs one chair lift south of the South End (Southern Comfort).
Kris Tips: Don’t compare this place to Whistler, Tremblant, Europe, etc… it’s an Ontario Ski Resort. Comparing MOUNTAIN Ranges to an Ontario Hill is like comparing Apples to Oranges. Totally different so appreciate each for what they are.
Now to discuss the actual village:
To look at, it’s beautiful, truly an amazing destination fit for any season. I’ve stayed in the summer and in the winter and had a blast regardless of the temperature. The Village @ Blue comes stocked with numerous dining options ranging from casual to fine dining, so depending on the demographic make up of your group there is literally something for everyone.
DOWN SIDE: Service at most places in the Village SUCKS. They know there aren’t other options close to the village to on the whole expect to be forgotten about, talked to rudely on occasion and have your orders messed up. (Specifically: Irish pub, Pottery).
Kris Tips: For Casual fare and a light atmosphere check out Rustys, for fine dining go to Tholos in the Village. Great food and entertainment!
Nightlife: V@B has a lot of nightlife, and there seems to be more and more being added each year with many of the restaurants opening up to being more supper clubs later.
Kris Tips: You think Toronto nightlife is bad? Heck No, limited spaces and tons of people during busy season. Call ahead and get on a guest list to reserve you space.
Accommodations: While there are several big name hotel chains who’ve built gorgeous resorts around the Village, there is also the Blue Mountain Inn, countless chalet’s in the surrounding areas AND time-​share style apt/​condos throughout the village
Kris Tips: Do your research, the big name places come with big name prices. Call Blue Mountain Village and look into renting some of the privately owned rooms within the village. Many of them come with access to communal hot tubs private from the rest of the Blue, prices here can be reasonable.
Shopping: Tons of shopping for those who enjoy bringing back souvenirs no matter where you go. Most of the shopping is ski/​snowboard related but you can still get a decent pair of sunglasses or some boutique women’s ware if you’re so inclined.
Kris Tips: Bring lots of $$$, prices are high!
Other stuff: There are a ton of quick stop chains in the village such as Starbucks, Beavertails, Booster Juice (coming soon) and others. So if you’re looking for tastes from home while you stay, you’re never too far away. There is also a fairly large man-​made pond which hosts skating by winter and Wake-​boarding exhibitions by summer.
At approximately 1 hour 45min from Toronto it’s a tad far for a quick afternoon trip, but if you can spend the day or a weekend, this is

Let’s cut to the chase – skiing is a very expensive activity. Despite the fact that we love it and it is something we can share the cost is one reason we don’t do it very often. Personally this makes going to Blue Mountain even that much more of a challenging decision for us. Certainly I think the (mountain+cost+time) can not justify a day trip from Toronto. That said if we spend one or two nights then I can find some value occasionally. The «mountain» is not much but enough for me to get most of my ski bugs out I suppose. But whatever you do bring your own equipment. The new point-​of-​sale system in the rental center is a joke. Be prepared to wait at least an hour to rent anything.

It costs nothing to have a look around and walk the village.
The whole area is very nicely kept and attractive. We went during the non-​ski season for something to do on a weekend.
If you want a quick bite, a snack or something to eat, it’s all at hand.

Whistler it is not but a great weekend getaway for Ontarians nestled in the Niagra escartment.
This is an Intawest development and looks like a mini Whistler with a great village vibe and many dining and entertainment options, shopping and the outdoor beauty one expects of a resort. Much of the activities will appeal to families and singles alike and depending on the season, skiing in the winter and hiking in the summer. The Ridge Runner ride is a blast and the tree top adventure is fun so give them a try as an alternative to hiking or lounging by the lake. There are many hotel options to choose from and I recommend picking one in the village as opposed to the surrounding areas for the convenience of wandering around by foot. Collingwood is a 10 minute drive away and this is the place to go for groceries and cheaper restaurant options.
You will not be disappointed if you pay a visit to Blue Mountain.

I like you. I really like you when we found you on the, quote, «one weekend where it’s really dead here. Just finished the ski season, and before the May Two Four beginnings, this is the one weekend where no one’s really here.»
I counted twenty six other people in total that were either strolling like zombies in this baren adult disneyland film set situation. Maybe when it’s snowy, and bunnies are teeming on the slopes and the energy is up does the interesting fact that this is either a film set or the life size model of those villages grandparents put on their shelves remain concealed. I enjoyed the feeling I was on a strange film location.
The funny resort shuttle drops you off where you need to go, but if you can figure out how to snag a golf cart to putter about, I’d recommend it so you can tell me how it goes because I’ll be jealous.
The market in the village is handy: it should supply everything you need for your village apartment or hotel room stay. Like that convenience, the village offers everything you need in your day to day life just now in ski resort hologram form — take the ski goggles and lingerie from the store ‘Tingle’ for instance, which I’m sure the stores will be wide open during your visit but during our trip nearly everything was closed, and I liked it that way.

Blue Mountain is one of the most popular ski slopes in Ontario. It belongs to Intrawest. I have done same day ski trip and weekend getaway. I would like to share my 2 cents on weekend getaways on the village.
Skiing: The skiing is good and bad. It is good because the trails are interesting. However, the beginner trails are not fun at Blues. They are crowded, and too many people just sit in the middle of the trails, not knowing this is dangerous to themselves and others. If you, however, hang around mainly the blue and black trails, they are less crowded, but the surface snow is gone here and there, and I end up skiing on hard ice, which I hate (and not good at). The only sure shot time I get wonderful skiing condition is when I ski after a day of snow storm.
Food: If you come with group, try to get a two/​three bedroom ski-​in ski-​out condo. This usually requires at least 2 months advanced booking. The pro is that you get a kitchen and save lots of dinner monies. If you are not interested in cooking dinner, you can still have very generous and decent breakfast and lunches, conveniently and inexpensively.
Village Accommodation: the rooms follow Intrawest tradition of luxury and cottage style. They have a flat screen TV in both bedroom and living room. The TV input is locked, so you cannot play anything from your computer.
Off Slope Activities: To most it means pubs and hot tub. To me, it means swimming, skating, spa and shopping. I have been to the hot tubs many times, and Canadians have proven themselves to be a civilized bunch :-). Swimming ($ 15/​3hrs) and spa are ultra expensive at the village. Skating is free and not crowded, and your little ones will thank you. Shopping is expensive (e.g. $ 22 for a hand crème).

This place has a great feel to it, variety of restaurants, and good events here. I don’t mind the crowds, it happens. Nice place.

Bluemountain doesn’t compare to whistler or even tremblant. With that said, there’s not much else within a few hours of gta.
Customer service could be better: Often found the information desk didn’t have info e.g. didn’t know where to send us to check-​in. The hotel denied us a later check out (even by half or 1 hour).
Pool and fitness facilities are aging and need renovations.
Summer: Mountain biking, mountain coaster, etc are fun. Mini putting course is not bad. Few restaurants and bars in the village (average food, nice atmosphere) to hang out. Beach is a 5 minute drive and kayak rentals can be fun.
Winter fun: slopes are pretty ok but lineups are long sometimes. Rental equipment quality compared to other ski resorts in Ontario is better.

Sigh… Blue mountain is no whistler, that’s for sure. It’s hard to even give this place a WHOOHOO review when you are thinking about the huge mountains, beautiful sunshine and the spectacular view on the other sided of the country.
Even the road signs to get here were tricky. I felt like we got lost 3 times because the signs kept trying to steering us to a big road with lights, rather than the quickest way to get you on your way.
Once there you get confused as to where you can park and not sure if you have to buy tickets from the main chairlift or if the north and south side had this service as well.
I have to say that the only plus side to this experience is that parking is free, unlike whistlers attempt to charge high fees without any other option.
The mountain… known as the place with the most runs in Ontario… are a bunch of little hills. You are down in 5 minute and then back logged into a ge line again. I appreciate that there are people patrolling the lines to get everyone moving as quickly as possible. The chair lifts in the main location seats 6, which helps with a long lineup.
Thanks to a snowy day, there was lots of snow… and lots of people for that matter. With how the weather has been, I was pleased with snowboarding in temperatures just below zero.
The village has grown a little bit in the last 10 years. There are still a very limited selection of restaurants and cafes but I like how there isn’t a giant McDonald’s or Tim hortons taking over… if you want the big chain restaurants, just drive 10 minute into the main collingwoo core and you will be drowning in chain restaurants. Starbucks still seems to find a way make their way in. not a bad thing.
I know this review seems totally one sided, but I cannot help it. I miss whistler. It changed my life!

Yeah, not such a fan of this place at all! I was there for a program that I volunteer for with snowboarding. Their rental shop and instructors get a big thumbs down. My friend was mis-​fitted for a board not once but twice. Not to mention they had a 6 person chair, this simply equals disaster.
I know there isn’t a whole lot around the GTA, but to be honest this isn’t all that close. Jump in the car and head south to the USA! The snow is not as plentiful but the consistency is better. This is only based on one review, but I will not be headed back anytime in the near future. Thanks Canada, but maybe you should stick to hockey?

For all you winter sports enthusiasts in Michigan (or in the Toronto area) — check out Blue Mountain for a hella sweet long weekend vacation!
Granted, this is the only ski resort I’ve ever stayed at, but it flat out rocked. Our group packed 6 people into a one bedroom condo (one king bed + 2 sleeper sofas) for two days of excellent skiing, awesome accommodations, and a circle of bars within steps of your condo. Rates are veeeery reasonable if you’re willing to overload your room… our one bedroom was approx $ 200/​night, split between 6 people = approx $ 35/​night. one hell of a deal! This doesn’t include skiing costs, but you can get package deals depending on how hardcore you are. we only wanted a lift ticket & ski rental equipment for one full day, so we bought it separately. And even if you’re not into skiing or snowboarding, you can still have fun — they have snowshoeing, dog sledding, snowmobiling, etc… used to have snow tubing as well, but I’m not sure if they still offer it.
If you’re coming from Michigan, it’s easy to break up with drive with one night stays in Toronto, as Blue Mountain is about 2 hours directly north of the city.
Also, while you’re wandering around the Village, make sure to stop by the Beaver Tails stand — these tasty treats are like an elephant ear/​crêpe hybrid. SO GOOD!
