Bailey Books is a family run, online bookstore business. We are not a retail bookstore — we run this business from our home property.

At Bailey Books we are committed to the reuse of quality second hand books. Some of our books are brand new, but the overall majority of our stock is Very Good and Near New condition.

History

Established in 2006.

It was in late 2006 when Bailey began selling used books on Ama​zon​.ca. Her sales grew steadily almost out of the gate.

«It started as a way to earn some extra pocket money, to pay for things and it has actually grown into a full-​fledged business now,» she said.

In that start-​up year, she sold just under 500 books and almost tripled her sales the following year, selling 1,400 books through Ama​zon​.com

Last year she matched 2,500 books with new owners.

It’s been more than a decade since Cobble Hill bookseller Karyne Bailey realized she would never work a conventional job again.

In 1998 the single mother of three girls was diagnosed with chronic fatigue.

«Traditional work is rather difficult because you never know when you’re going to have a good day or a bad day,» she said last week.

She dabbled in various catalog business and marketing businesses, but what was missing from her work was the passion.

But after a revelation four years ago, everything seemed to fall into place.

«I’ve always been passionate about books and the thrill of the hunt,» she beamed. «I absolutely adore going to thrift stores and seeing what treasures I can find and it’s kind of putting those things together.»

When she finally made the connection, her enterprise took off and she’s now officially a successful entrepreneur having set up an Amazon. ca Marketplace page (BC Book Family) and a used bookstore online (www​.bai​ley​books​.ca).
