According to the local harbour authority, the tiny community of Wheatley on Lake Erie is home to the largest freshwater commercial fishing fleet in the world, and it’s all a 45 minute drive from Detroit. I like coming over to Wheatley… I usually take a drive to Tilbury and cut down to the lake and take the drive back into Wheatley. Perch and Walleye are the fish that I buy here which are fresh, but the store here sells other frozen seafood and many items. I like the Brenner’s hot dogs, Breaded Dill Pickle Spears, Peameal Bacon, Rosina Meatballs, Battered Onion Rings and other specialty items. Well worth the drive from Windsor to get fresh Walleye and Perch.
