I hate to be so dismissive of a new store(especially one launched with such great fanfare), but I think Target is possibly the worst of the new retail entrants in the discount market. I was expecting a Walmart-plus some excellent stuff, like the Apple displays in each store. What we got is more like a Zellers-minus many of the good things I expect in a department store. Where do I begin? How about an entire missing department — there is no wool, yarn, notions or sewing supplies in the entire store? One of the great things about Zellers was the excellent choice of these items.(I guess you’re supposed to just buy their overpriced disposable stuff and throw it out when it invariably wears out.) How about an Apple pavilion where they actually don’t have any of the Apple products that you want to buy and take home with you? How about a grocery department that seems to think a big special promotion on Coke products is the normal price at Walmart? How about a pharmacy where half the shelves are empty and there’s no one to answer your questions as to how one product is different than another almost the same but costs just a bit less? Very frustrating as a consumer. One more thing: A great advantage of Zellers was the kid durable guarantee, where the store would replace the clothes that you purchased for your kids if they wore out before the kids outgrew them(and we really never had to do so, the quality was decent). Target really misses the mark here. With neighbours like these, I’ll be shopping at a nice family-controlled business like Walmart, where at least I can get the stuff I want at the every day lowest price, and in stock.
