History

Established in 2004.

In 1997, the Nose Creek Sports and Recreation Association (NCSRA) was established to spearhead the development of Cardel Place in north central Calgary. The City of Calgary provided the capital funding and project management expertise to plan, design, and build the regional recreation facility. In 2004, we opened our doors as Cardel Place serving north-central Calgary’s growing population and its community, sport and recreation needs.

Today, we’re known as Vivo for Healthier Generations. Vivo means ‘live’ in Latin. Vivo embraces and celebrates diversity, community and the common thread that unites us all — life. Vivo is more than just a Calgary recreation facility. Vivo is a movement. We’re a cause committed to inspiring Canadians of all generations to achieve their optimal health whether they’re at home, school, work, play, in the community or here with us. Recreation is still a central pillar of our mission and now innovation and education are too.
