I’m just passing through town so now I’m bummed that I got a great haircut by Sandy and I won’t be around for another one. She noticed right away the way my hair grows, that I didn’t want skin showing underneath where the clippers passed over, and the product I would use for my style. Very attentive to details and super quick and friendly and affordable by my downtown Ottawa standards.

This place is fantastic! I love going here! Great stylist, great atmosphere(not super sheeshi but not a dive either) and really good prices!(for what you get) Now before I go on about the joys of Scruples. I have to tell a little backstory of my haircut journey… I used to go to the typical strip mall barbers. Now, for years it was fine but eventually I started to realize that no matter how I asked the barbers to cut my hair, they would always cut it exactly the same! They take out those sheep sheering devices and buzz away. Never even touching a pair of scissors! Most dogs get better haircuts than I used to get! It was the only haircut those guys seemed to know how to do! AND they would do it as fast as they could, as if they were racing to get the next guy in the chair. I also HATED waiting, no appointments could be made. Just half an hour of waiting every time and you don’t even know who would end up cutting your hair! I was done, just done with it! That old romantic idea of the«mafia» style barber shop was proven to be a lie, ! And so even though I was a little weary of going to a salon at first I quickly got used to it and now I actually enjoy it quite a lot! its much better. So I went on a search for quality stylist. I was tired of the lawn mower treatment and alas on a tip from my ma, started coming to scruples. After my first haircut I was sold! In short, every single haircut I have gotten here has been quality. All the stylist are good, they are professional and have always done pretty much exactly what I ask them to! Also they give me tips or suggestions. Heather, Nancy, Mary, Michelle are the stylist I have gone with. They are all top notch in my books but Michelle has won me over with her technique, every time I get a cut from her its never an obvious«oh that guy just got a haircut» It always has a more textured look and it feels just right. So Men, for 22 bucks here is what you get, Shampoo, conditioning, head massage and haircut with a quick styling at the end. I used to pay 20 for some guy who didn’t even care, take a lawn mower to my head and make me look like a chia pet. The difference is night and Day. I am never going back to lawn mower mafia barbers!!! NEVER!

I take any advice from Dan D. any day. The kind of cheese to grill, which beer is the holiest, even when it comes to financial woes Dan D. knows how to lay the truth. Because of this I decided to try Scruples Hair Design. I made a same-day appointment for a haircut. It’s hard for me to get my head trimmed since I find that I have to save a fraction of my day for it(changing clothes afterwards, blah, blah). Scruples accommodated me for a last minute booking, where most hairstylists needed a day in advance even when they have spots to fill just give the illusion of exclusivity. I’ve been getting the same haircut for the last 4 – 5 years and jumped from different hairstylists whose interpretation of my template request gave the«something different» look added to my cut. Scruple’s hairstylist was great, no firstchoice/supercut hackjob haircut here. She was also conversational, lacked awkwardness, and had charming stories about her adopted daughter. My cut came to about $ 20 and because my hairstylist was very pleasant, I decided to tip as well. Are people supposed to tip hairstylists? I don’t really know, although I wish I could get a tip once in a while in life-random treats handed to me in the street like pocket change, hugs, pat on the rear, fortune cookie advice…

Alright dudes … I know what your thinking: «Hair Salon? Not for me! I’m a MAN! I bench 380! I eat raw beef for breakfast!» Hey fellas … I know where you’re coming from. I used to be the same way. But let’s face it, with the state of haircuts in Calgary today, you’re going to be paying no less than $ 15 – 20 for any joe-schmoe barber you find in the city anyway. Why not pay $ 20 at Scruples, get your hair cut by a trained professional(so that it ALWAYS looks good) and have your scalp massaged/shampooed while you’re at it? «Massage? Shampoo? I’m a MAN! I bench 380! I eat – « Yeah, yeah. Raw beef. I got it. Get over yourself. I have had my haircut by Heather, Mary, Nancy(sadly not there anyomore!), and currently my regular stylist is Michelle. All of them are excellent. All are very talented, and my hair has always looked good after a Scruples cut. So do yourself a favour: Get over your macho, manly«don’t touch my hair with your fancy shmancy PRODUCT» attitude and get your hair cut by someone who really knows what they’re doing.
