Love these guys. We buy their XX white cheddar a lot, and have had their memorable stilton, a great brie or two, and lots of others. Quality is pretty consistent: most cheeses are superb, and at their worst they are quite good. They made a party tray for us recently with 4 cheeses and 3 ¼ pint containers of olives: garlic and lemon stuffed, and their own house mix with kalamatas and others in it. $ 55 was the price for way more cheese and olives than 16 adults and 6 kids could eat, and it was all superb. We’re still noshing on it. Prices, like their variety, range all over the map — there are some truly costly and unusual ones in there, and some real deals as well. The simple 1X old white Canadian Cheddar is both affordable and delicious. The 3X is a bit spendy, but it’s like crack, if, you know, cheese were crack. We love them. Highly recommended!

These guys call themselves a fromagerie, but that’s too fancy for me. Instead, I call them my favorite cheesemonger. Mostly because I LOVE the word monger and will use any excuse to work it into conversation. Think about it, how many mongers are even out there any more? Fishmonger? Yes! Cheesemonger? Hell yes! What does it take to become a monger? I’m not too sure, but if it’s anything like the set up at Say Cheese, you can look forward to friendly service, a large blackboard with cheeses listed by type and price, tastings of new and unfamiliar cheeses, and reasonable prices. When I was there on the weekend, the woman told me she’s going to Quebec to make cheese with one of their suppliers. I asked if she needs someone to hold down the mongership while she’s gone. Given the amount of tasting I usually do, she may have suspected my ulterior motives. These guys are hands down my mongers of cheese, but I am still looking for mongers of pickles, candy, wine, and sandwiches. If you know any other mongers that may want me to taste their wares, I provide this valuable community service at no charge to them. It’s win-win!

Ex-cheese me, may I have your attention? It’s important. There’s a knowledgeable cheese man that you need to know about. He’s got a grey beard and knows his fromages. A few of us met up today for a Slowfood Crawl through the Crossroads Farmers Market. Starsia E kindly pointed me towards Say Cheese Fromagerie. There are more cheeses here than I know what to do with. Mr. Man behind the counter helped me find a couple of cheeses to bring home with me to drink with a glass of red wine. One of them is a kind of blue cheese, the other… I can’t remember anymore, but it’s not the gruyère. Helpful, right? Maybe Mr. Man will remember what it is. At any rate, he was great about finding out what my preferred cheese flavours were, asking me questions about how strong I like the flavour, whether I prefer cheddars, soft or hard cheeses, etc. before he brought out a couple of different kinds for me to sample. It’s a good thing this cheese is might tasty, it makes me take small nibbles of it… why is that good? Because at $ 16ish for the two kinds(not large slices), my bank account would surely not appreciate my cheese adventures. Especially not when there are still at least 298 other kinds for me to try from Say Cheese. April Underdog Challenge: 6⁄30
