Prime is a cool new bike and ski shop In Montgomery, located next to the Lazy Loaf. You might have seen their sign on the Bow River Pathway. They opened in January to do some ski tuning and now they’re starting to get busy with bike tuneups. Not so busy that they can’t still take your bike in at 10am and have it ready to go same day at 6:30pm. They said that won’t always be the case, they’ve had some people wait a week for their bikes, so I think I got lucky. My 20-year-old mountain bike is now my commute-to-work bike and even though it looks pretty beat up it’s in decent shape. The guy who took it in seemed to admire my old workhorse a little bit, which is better than some of the shops who think it’s time for a new bike(ca-ching). As for the service, it’s been a while so I was expecting a few parts needed replacing. And I have to remember that a wobbly back tire probably means a broken spoke or two. What I got back was shiny and repacked everything, with a recommendation that I get new derailers next time I’m in. I also needed a new chain. It was still on the rack when I got there, so I had about a five minute wait. The guy at the front took me to the back to see a refurbished bike almost completed. It was a slick black courier-style stealth thing that would be a nice upgrade bike. They had a bunch of nice bikes there. They also rent by the hour or day, and they’re about a block from the river pathway. They have a selection of bike and ski parts for sale, but they’re a small store so don’t expect to find everything like you would at Bow Cycle. Most of the store is a workshop for bike and ski tuning and the guys seems to have a good pedigree for their work. I really felt like the bike was in good hands.
