Monplaisir Delicacies

I’ve tried macaroons all over Calgary these are by far the best not as sweet more flavor just a great way to finish a dinner.
After learning more about the company I understand why the principles are from France and have grown up eating macaroons. Not sure why they picked Calgary to settle down in but I’m sure glad they did.
Their retail outlet on the fourth floor outside Holt’s is easy to get to once you find it the first time but a much better option is to just order them online through their website and they will deliver to your home or office during the workweek fast easy and foolproof. You can even order them for delivery all across Canada.
Now they’re making some really interesting things larger macaroons I had an 8 inch strawberry and Fig that was just outstanding but very delicate the packaging was superb these you need to pick up downtown as they will never survive a messenger service.

I’m pleasantly surprised. I wasn’t sure what to make of the mixed reviews but since my son asked for macarons, I decided to pick up some from here as I don’t know where else you can get macarons in downtown. They are quite big (and I read somewhere that they purposely make them this way) so perhaps that’s why they’re $ 2.50 a piece — most expensive in the City. Texture wise, the are soft, chewy with prominent flavors. Ate them straight out of the fridge and they didn’t turn hard. Love the rich, cream filling in between. I would say they’re pretty good macarons in my book — would definitely return to buy more!

Definitely not worth the trip or the money. This was my first visit and the Macaroons are horrible. They are way to big for the standard macaroon. Not only were they over cooked they were all different shapes and sizes. They were hard to bite into and did not have the light fluffy core. Definitely not a high quality product. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone.

The macarons are thicker and bigger compared to Yann Haute’s and a little bit on the chewy side which I like very much. The cream in between are a little fudgy too which is perfect! They’re not overly sweet, too (comparing again to Yann Haute’s). This place will be my go to for macarons from now on!

YES!!! If you want the best chocolate you’ve EVER had, pop by Monplaisir for some Neuhaus treats! I was thrilled to find Neuhaus chocolates sold in Alberta, let alone Canada as I wasn’t able to find them anywhere but NYC, Europe and an airport stall in San Francisco. Brought in especially from Belgium, this chocolate is perfection. It is rich in taste, varied in selection and tastes fresh. It is very satisfying in terms of chocolate, so if you’re looking for a gift for Mother’s Day, Engagement, Wedding, Colleague appreciation, Corporate gift, Birthday, celebrating mid week, pick up one of their gift packages or assortments and you will not go wrong.
However, it must be savoured!
ps. It’s located on the top floor of the CORE Shopping Centre. It’s clean and bright kiosk (not a store front). The service was excellent as well and the packaging is beautiful

One of my missions in life is to eat macarons. I do need to figure out if I’m spelling the word «macaron» properly though…
During my blitz of macaron eating last month, I came across this little counter in The Core food court. There’s a special offer for checking in here, but sadly I couldn’t use it as it was the weekend. I was instantly attracted to their funky coloured macaron display. Their bright neon coloured macaron shells with contrasting buttercreams were a welcoming change to my usual macarons.
I’m a sucker for packaging. So in my mind it was logical to get enough macarons to fill their cute little pink box (this prevented me from going bankrupted from my first visit). I got a variety of flavours to try out, I don’t quite remember the names of all of them though.
Matcha is one of my must get flavours when I try any macaron place. The shell of the macaron had the slightest bit of chew to it, and the buttercream was soft and heavenly. I’ve never had a macaron with textures quite like it. All the other macarons I’ve had in yyc have had much firmer buttercream center. The matcha macaron here has a very distinct matcha flavor; a slight bitterness with just a hint of sweet.
The macarons here keep well in the fridge for a day or two, but quickly become crumbly any longer than that. The macarons here are well worth a try, a perfect pick me up during a long day of shopping or even a last minute gift for a special someone.
Looking forward to giving their chocolates a try as well in the future.

Save your money and go to Yann’s or Ooh La La. The macarons were oddly textured and had funky flavour. The Rose Lychee tasted like a stick of perfume. And not fresh!!! ALL their macarons are made in NEW YORK and shipped in. not even canadian or local by any means. Try Ollie in Mount Royal for local made… and by a real french chef. These guys are a laugh. And their Facebook excuse for the bad reviews? «We might have bad reviews but it’s because we’re working so hard to be the best». Huh? That doesn’t even make sense. You have bad reviews because you have a bad product. LOL

In the mall for some retail therapy I decided to stop by and indulge in my favourite treat of all time… french macarons!
I was disappointed however with what I experienced. I ordered the following: Espresso, Coconut, P&J, Nutella, Earl Grey, and Lavender Honey. The consistency on most wasn’t very good, some were VERY hard and others were super chewy.
The flavours on most tasted artificial (very perfumery or just chemical tasting) it was to the point where I could only have one bite.
I gave 2 stars because the employees were very nice and so was the packaging… maybe the other sweets are better but I will be sticking with Misson’s
Yann Haute Patisserie, they are the best.

This was a nice surprise since I intended to get some macaroons before I left Calgary. At $ 2.50 a piece these were delicious and very good quality. I asked for an assortment and was very happy with the suggestions.

I have got to swoop in and write the first review for this place.
During a day trip to downtown Calgary with my family, my cousin’s 2-​year-​old decided that running around in the water fountain/​pool in Olympic Plaza would be fun. With his diaper on and no change of clothes readily available. We came by way of the C-​Train and had to hop back on it to head to the CORE Shopping Centre. We made a beeline for H&M, where we knew we’d find garments that could cover our almost-​naked toddler boy on the cheap. Once my little cousin was no longer damp, we headed upstairs to find some sustenance.
As I came up the escalator, from the corner of my eye, I spied «Monplaisir Delicacies.» Umm, what? I did a double-​take and dashed to the glass case to closely examine the colorful confections that I could see from afar. As I approached the case, my brain registered that aforementioned sweets were indeed macarons.
Unilocal community, I have been stuck on the macaron for a good 3 years. Nope, I admit that I wasn’t part of the avant garde that loved macarons before the «craze.» My macaron story dates back to a trip I made to Paris in 2011. I tried the almond meringue cookie sandwiches, which resembled in the most uncanny fashion miniature hamburgers that were coated in the fine dust of a shattered rainbow. Clamping down my chompers on the delicate shell and feeling the sticky interior, which gave way to a delightful filling was nothing short of life-​changing. If you have read any of my other reviews about macarons, you can probably see the effect of this experience sprinkled throughout. And you will most likely roll your eyes.
After that drawn-​out story that you were not looking for, let me say that the macarons dished out at Monplaisir are the real deal. The macarons that I tried in Calgary are better than the ones I can get in my current home city of Atlanta. Montplaisir macarons are pricier than another pâtisserie in Calgary known for their French pastries and delights but location plays a major factor. You are downtown and in a premier shopping center. There are more than just macarons here, but since I had already made my mac selection, I opted out from trying. I took a vanilla pistachio nougat bar to bring home as a gift, but I didn’t consume this myself.
If you are shopping and looking for something sweet to get you through your endeavors, go up to the Food Court level of the mall and try a macaron or two. If you are wandering near the CORE, come in and get a pick-​me-​up. If you are a tourist in need of almondy goodness, this is your place.
