Had some custom framing done here. Ended up ruining my work or so I thought. After that I took it to this unique shop called ArtSense. Fixed up my piece it was done for half of what Michaels quoted even with 60% off… place needs to work on their abilities.

Ended up at Michaels for the first time in a long time for some DIY items and inspiration. I was surprised to see Michaels had a lot more to offer than I remembered; they have holiday, seasonal, home décor and accessories as well! They have some great niche pieces that are already complete /ready for your home, no customization or creativeness required. The selection was a lot more than a usual craft/hobby store and a pleasant surprise since my creative abilities are quite limited. As an arts and crafts store they have enough options to spark creativity in anyone, myself included :)! This was the primary reason for our visit and it definitely met and exceeded what we were looking for. I think we left with more than we planned… lol. I could see this place being quite the haven for true creative minds, but for people a little less apt in that department like myself they do have awesome staff to assist you. I was extremely impressed with the associate who helped us out, she was very knowledgeable and friendly! On one of the things she was a little unsure about she was quick to confer with another associate via her wireless headset, it was a smooth and impressively done. Only downside to the experience was some of the prices, I guess when you’re the go-to store of this nature chances are your prices are going to be a bit higher. This seemed to be the case as there was a definite premium on most items, thankfully we did save a bit with some coupons. I recommend checking for these in advance! There’s also a discount for teachers, military and seniors. The associate at the cashier also said that the more you do transactions and provide the same e-mail account the more coupons/discounts you will unlock. I can’t verify this part, but I’ve seen other stores do this so I have no reason to suspect she was misleading us.

First off I make my own jewelry and beaded stuff. Since there aren’t very many other places in Calgary to buy beads this is the only place I can go. Despite that I get 1 email a month with a 40% off coupon the beads are so over priced. I bought 3 strands of unique beads for a necklace I was making. The beads cost me $ 27.00. I could buy a necklace for less than that. Secondly this location specifically never had any stock on seed beads. I have been there 5 times once a week to see if they have brought in more stock but yet most of the hooks are still empty. There is always a 10 minute lineup when I come here no matter what time of the day. Maybe it’s my bad luck with line ups but I am not here to get on an exciting ride I am here to over pay for jewelry beads. I won’t be returning to this location and recommended you use the shawnessy location instead!

Who put this business under pricey? Give them your email address and they’ll send you neverending 70% off coupons. This is the ideal place for someone that loves to DIY, and as I am all about that, I am here pretty often. Staff here is incredibly helpful, and, as I mentioned before, things are almost always on sale and you don’t have to wait until that particular holiday is over to get it on sale. Forgot to print out your coupon or left your phone in your car? No problem, staff is more than willing to pull out a circular and make sure you save your money. They were super helpful when helping me make my first *fancy* cake(see: one that I bothered to decorate), and only laughed at me a little when I came in here totally harried and asked where the sketchbooks were(I was standing right in front of them).

These guys have pretty much everything you could need for your crafty side. The biggest thing to note is that they may not be the cheapest. I’ve found some better deals at independent stores. To counter that last comment though, watch their coupons. They consistently have coupons for 50% off one item or up to 40% off your entire purchase. If you time things right, you can get a big ticket item that you’ve been pining over for a great deal.

This is my go-to place for any of my crafty or baking projects. They have a great selection of products for baking and candy-making — I’m generally able to find everything I need for coloured icing gels, sprinkles, cupcake liners and cake boxes. I’ve also shopped here frequently for storage baskets — they have a pretty good selection of decorative baskets. If you’re going to come here regularly, definitely take advantage of their coupons and flyers. I find their products can be on the expensive side.

Came here looking for plaster paris and tempura paints. Making home made side walk chalk with the kids… service is always great here. Our chalk turned out wonderful… and we all had a blast making our craft!

I’ve always loved arts and crafts, and Michael’s was always my favourite place to go. It actually surprises me sometimes how much stuff they have. If you’ve never been much of an arts and crafts person I would encourage you to walk into any Michael’s location and not be intrigued. Want to draw/paint? They have what you need. Scrapbook? They have what you need. Knit? They have what you need. Don’t know how to do these things? They’ve got books to show you how. The selection here is huge, and the prices are fairly reasonable! It’s kind of surprising the things you can do here. I work in a kids clothing store and a lady was looking for black and purple striped leggings for her daughters Halloween costume. We were her last resort, and she thought maybe she should get plain black tights and use duct tape. Where did I send her? Michael’s, because I knew they had a huge selection. The smile on her face was priceless when she realized she finally had a solution. I recommend you just walk into this store and imagine the possibilities. There are lots of options for adults, but if you have kids there are plenty of things for them too! Sit down at your kitchen table and get creative people!

This is a huge warehouse location and would be the wet dream for all arts and crafts and hobby enthusiasts. The store is chalk full of everything you need to make a doily, build a tree house, knit a sweater, make a Kleenex box holder and the list goes on and on. I was in with a friend finding plastic flowers to embellish a bathroom décor, and because my friend does not have a green thumb she thought she should go with artificial. There are vases upon vases of artificial silk flower selections, they are very beautiful and all look incredibly real; we walked away with a few and some nice polished round stones to support bamboo shoots in clear vases. I was overly impressed with Michaels; this is a one stop location for any of you with an arts project I can assure you. My only complaint is lack of sales staff to ask specific questions of where is? They all seem to be at the checkout area so it is a tedious walk to the entrance every time I had a question. So for this I will knock off a star but other than that, their stock seems to never be lacking.
