Buckle up art-lovers. This is the Cadillac of fine frames. I used to be an Art Coordinator for an O&G company. The owner bought this 19th century French piece that had an original gesso gilded frame. It arrived damage in a few corners. Like, pieces fell off. How does one get something like this fixed in Cowtown? You go to Jarvis who is one of few in Western Canada that could fix such a thing. This guy is a reincarnation of the craftsmen of past. So most of us don’t own 1800’s art. BUT if you or anyone you know needs a really special frame for a special piece… WOW…this is the place to go. Jarvis makes framing an ARTFORM. He has tools that only fellow frame-makers in Italy have. Besides gilding, Jarvis handcarves frames like the artisans of old. They are things of beauty. The frames become pieces of art themselves. Pop in sometimes! Everyone is friendly there and you can watch them at work and they will answer questions(much like a lil tour). It’s an enjoyable lil jaunt as the Artfirm Gallery is joined to Jarvis Hall’s shop.
