I hired Great Events to cater my wedding reception on Aug 22, 2015 at Redwood Meadows. The meals were excellent, my family from out of town went out of their way to come and tell me so. Especially the California Butter Lettuce salad… It was unique and tasty.
Greg, the on site manager, was calming to be around, professional and kind.
The only reason I would give 4 instead of 5 stars is because of the hors d’oeuvres, 2 of the selections recommended to me were difficult to eat — if you do go with Great Events, do not get the gyoza nor the skewers of meat that need sauces… Stick with things like the smoked salmon on brioche or something that truly is a ‘finger food’.
Not sure why people are saying why Great Events is more expensive… I called and got 5 quotes around town… They are competitive.

Great events can be a touch hit or miss I find. For the price point of the catering it’s the misses that really bother me.
One buffet I had catered was truly inspired. Most items were delightful. Truly an upscale meal that could have been plated and severed at a classy restaurant.
The last buffet though was alright but forgettable and nothing special. It has some of the same dishes and yet I ate for need vs pleasure. It certainly wasn’t gross or poisonous… it just was. I noticed the fattiness of the scalloped potatoes I had RAVED about because they weren’t as good and I became more discerning about the calories.
All the Hors d’oeuvres are pretty much bang on though. So very well presented and delicious! They have a lot of creativity in this area for sure.
Over all the staff and food are of good quality. It’s certainly a pricer outfit but they are a great choice for something like a wedding as they come with a lot of help, friendly staff and are full service with the rentals.

They are a friendly and convenient way to rent party equipment. Items are not that cheap but it’s better than buying most of your party rental equipment (i.e. tables, table covers, etc.)

I had the excellent fortune of attending an event for which Great Events was the caterer. Their food is not what you would expect from a catering company. Don’t get me wrong, you can get decent food catered, but my impression of this place in seven words is «Oh my God, James Beard, come quick!» This type of quality in food will set you back a bit; we absolutely had to check out the menu to get more details about our amazing eats. Here are some details for you eager readers who are considering a fine dining catering experience.
At the event I attended, they started off with canapés that were to die for. Salmon with herb aioli on brioche, I think, though don’t quote me on the bread. They also had a fig and eggplant thing that honestly wasn’t my favourite, but it was still culinarily interesting.
At the buffet table there were a number of perfectly cooked items. I must confess I made a couple trips. On the cold side, they had a fennel and orange salad that danced on the palate. For the hot, they had perfectly seasoned potatoes and roasted vegetables. Everything tasted like what it was, which is an impressive feat. I didn’t have one thing there that wasn’t perfectly seasoned.
Some stand outs were the potatoes Dauphinoise, a deliciously creamy scalloped potato dish with buerre blanc and cheese. This place has a beautiful sole too. Again, the seasoning was perfect. I’m a big believer in the culinary philosophy that the first thing to hit your palate should be big and bold. I was not disappointed. The sole must have been very fresh because absent was the overbearing fish flavour that often accompanies fish that has essentially started to eat itself. The divine flavour profile only evolved from there. The sole was stuffed with fresh lobster and cream cheese, delish! Not to be missed is the turf portion of a surf and turf. They served up a beef tenderloin demi-​glacé that melted in the mouth, cooked to medium rare.
The dessert table was out of this world! Everything was delicate and flavourful. I particularly enjoyed their black forest cake. It was delectably moist and not overly rich.
If you ever want caterers to knock the socks of a client at a party, or you just want really great food, I would strongly consider giving these guys a call.

I recently attended the Avenue Magazines Top 40 Under 40 Event. Great Events was the caterer. I have to say it has been a long time since I have sampled hors d’oeurves that have has so much attention to ALL details — taste, presentation and flavour mix. The servers were knowledgeable about what they were serving and appropriately enthusiastic about each item. They had some cool table displays as well as serving techniques too that would make any reception or event special. I liked how unique the different items were and that they were all easy to eat standing up. The servers were also quick to clean up after guests in a non intrusive., professional way.
