Check Mate Shoes

Great store for buying shoes for the missus, who usually wears a size 6. I’ve had good luck finding stuff she likes here. Much smaller selection of men’s shoes, which I have not looked at closely.

Stumbled in here by accident mid-​day and it was quite busy! They had a whole section of high quality Clarke’s shoes and boots at 50% off so, no wonder!
There was a friendly salesman inside doing his best to juggle everyone and was happy to go fetch sizes. I was on the hunt for a pair of booties and even though I had to go down a ½ size as my true size was sold out, I scored and came out with an unexpected purchase — but what a deal! I love them!
The store was well kept inside and had a lot of decent stock. I could not even look at everything but stayed true to my bargain hunting self at the sale display.
What stood out for me though was the service, the guy working was a real one man band hero!
TIP — if you find a pair of shoes/​boots there that you love but they need widening, I was told that they will keep them overnight for you to do just that!

Bought 2 pairs today — one by Ros Hommerson and the other, Trotters. Excellent shoes!
Kimmi was the sales girl that helped me today. I think she’s just a student but certainly is patient to help me find the right pair of shoes.

I am on a quest to find a new pair of shoes for work, so I thought I would check out Check Mate Shoes.
The store is quite nice inside. They have some nice bags, some were 50% off on sale! There isn’t a great variety of shoes, although they had some really cute boots that I tried to stay away from. I was greeted quickly by a young woman at the til. She asked if I needed help with anything, I told her what I was looking for. She instantly recommended Clarks brand. She pointed out a few styles, 2 of which I decided to try on. It took her a while to find my sizes in the back. She came out with a half size down and a half size up, but not my size. I tried on the size down and it was very small. The other pair were not in the same color I had asked for, but they fit pretty good. I asked about a different pair, but they didn’t have that color in my size. I asked if she could call their other store and see if they had the shoe I wanted in the right size and color. She said it wasn’t a problem and called to ask, they didn’t have any. She said they are always getting more stock, so maybe I should check back. I still don’t have new shoes for work.
I was happy with the service at Check Mate, but obviously their stock needs some work. I might return here for some more professional shoes, but it wouldn’t be my first choice.
