Super comfort food. We were seated ASAP and our food literally came a minute after we ordered. Had the small #23(rare beef yum) and was so satisfied. The broth isn’t very clean or whatever but honestly I had cravings for a week and comfort food is comfort food. Also the phở is pretty cheap, $ 7.35 for a small or something along those lines. Phở 101 up the hill is like $ 11 for phở which is not very ok.

I like this place because it tastes alright and is pretty cheap, but I’m not in love with it. It was pretty empty when I went, at around 6:30 on a Monday. We ordered the curry vegetable rice noodle soup and a satay rice noodle, which I can’t remember which satay noodle we actually ordered because beef phở(looked like the house special) landed on our table. My friend didn’t mind so we didn’t bother pointing it out. The phở soup was pretty good, it was exactly what phở normally tastes like. My curry soup was also average which was pretty much what I was expecting. They gave lots of broccoli, which was nice. We also got the lychee on ice and young coconut water. The lychee came straight out of a can, which I was not surprised about since its out of season. I quite enjoyed my coconut drink as it was refreshing and had soft, plump, coconut slices. All in all, I would come back for a cheap meal or if I was really craving any phở.

Hmmm… This place reminds me of restaurants in the early 90’s. My first question was why is this place called Coconut Tree? Its not Thai food! Co-co-nut, co-co-nut. I got my small Phở for 8 $ and it tasted like any other good ol’ Phở(hey it rhymes). I also got a spring roll for 3.99 $ which I thought was a good deal although i have to mention that it is a smaller spring roll. It comes with sprouts and mint leaves and a lime and they were all very yummy to me. The place wasn’t busy on a Thursday night, maybe just two tables. They also have specials with pictures posted on walls such as wings for 5.99 $, curry rice etc… but do i really want curry rice at a Phở place? Maybe not. Service was fine, looks like its run by family. Street parking available.

This place is simple, but the phở is always delicious, and they put vegetables in the soup! Not all places will do this. The couple who run the restaurant are very sweet and accepting of young noodle-throwing kids. Prices can’t be beat.

Man, I love a bowl of phở on a surprising cold August day… Wait why is it cold in summer? Any who… I ordered a bowl of beef ball and rare beef phở, and some salad rolls. The salad rolls were a bit too chewy for me. The texture wasn’t good. The shrimp didn’t have much flavour, and unfortunately, the peanut sauce that came with it did no good, because I’m allergic to peanuts… So far… Maybe 2 stars. But, and this is A BIGBUT… The phở that came with it completely turned my 2 star into a 4 star. The noodles were al dente, there were good portions of rare beef, and the beef balls were delicious. It was undoubtedly fresh. The broth, like most phở places, was dark brown. The service was pretty good and friendly, and phở is always a good thing to get when its chilly outside. :D

It was my first time there today and had to say the food is amazing and it wasnt pricey ! Its affordable for everyone. If your craving for a vietnamese food I really recommend this place for you. I gave this a 4 star since the person there whos taking the order is really quite and its a very quite place and not busy. Service is really good too.

One of the better Vietnamese places I’ve been to in a while. House special was great. Asked for extra limes, got them. Made recommendations when asked. Will return.

Enjoyed my salad rolls and the meat plate with egg on rice was consistent with other Vietnamese restaurants I’ve tried. The décor is rather dingy but the owner’s service accommodated a special request through some language effort, and we were pleased with our food when it came. And it was served so quickly. We’ll definitely go back, which is always a compliment to the establishment. What we tried for the first time, since the weather today was so hot, were their iced drinks. Mine was with red beans and green coconut jello pieces and condensed milk and my son had lychees in syrup water on ice. Both were delicious. Will definitely go back. And it’s so close to home and very reasonably priced.

The restaurant must’ve changed hands recently. Went in on a Tuesday night and found it and surprisingly busy! There was only two people running the place! The guy ran the floor and took orders while the woman looked like she was the only one in the kitchen. The soup was absolutely awful. It had no taste and lacked any salt! The portion of beef was pathetic also. Our rice dish wasn’t any better… We only went here because the other Vietnamese restaurant ergo to was closed on Tuesdays. Never again.

This place is not so good. Phở broth is weak and so is the taste. Chinese run as I heard the staff speaking Chinese. Disappointed as its in my area. Service was ok though. I used to live in Vietnam so I can say the taste is more Chinese than Vietnamese.

I like to stop by here when I want a quick bite but not the fast food variety. Portions are good for the price. This restaurant is not fancy but the service is usually good.

Quick, reliable, affordable. I work pretty close to this place so it makes for a good, quick and cheap lunch. I usually go in just for their grilled pork sub and coffee– under $ 7 out the door, filling, and much better than the fast food joints. Today I took my boyfriend here for lunch because he came to visit me after school, and for once, he wanted Vietnamese food! We got a grilled pork sub, coffee, spring rolls, and rare beef and tripe noodle soup. Everything came to $ 20 and change with tax and tip. He loved it, and this is definitely my first pick for a lunch spot. Try it!

Another nice spot in the Heights of North Burnaby. If you are gluten free, comb the menu and you will find a few gems in the menu — particularly the Combo A(ordered with rice instead of noodles). The Combo A consists of a spring roll, salad roll and a grilled choice of chicken or pork; I chose chicken. Typical of many phở places, the meal was filling and pleasant to the palate! Coconut Tree also offers quick attentive service and good value for your money. If you have only an hour for lunch, this place will not disappoint! One night, I came in for a takeout order(Combo A), and brought in a re-useable container. The waitress and the cooks cheerfully honored my wish to use the container and placed my delicious food into it! I try to avoid styrofoam when possible!

I hate reading their drink menu. The coconut drink on the back of the menu reads $ 1.45 but when I went to pay it was $ 3.00. The problem is the lines correspond to the Vietnamese translations and not the English and the pricing lines do not go to the very end. The other thing I disliked was the waiters insistence on getting out of the restaurant by his closing time of 11 and our stupid argument at the end of the price of his coconut drink. I won’t be back unless I’m really desperate for food before 11.(Which means that I have to finish and pay before 11pm.) I was never actually impressed with the noodle soup here. There are better places on the heights and elsewhere for Phở. The only advantage this place has is that it’s open late if you can stand the owner. You have been warned.

You know the times have changed when you find a Vietnamese restaurant in the middle of the Burnaby Heights stretch. I think my dreams have come true. Parking is available everywhere here, and it’s FREE. I love Burnaby. Why can’t Vancouver be like this? The inside looks like some guy’s house from the 1960s, with(real) wood paneling. It looks more like someone’s Whistler cabin. Minus the cedar smell. The furniture looks out of place, as they look like they’re from some fancy nearby restaurant that went bust and had a liquidation sale. Service was very friendly. Looks like a mom and pop shop. I had the chicken on rice. Not sure how the Nammers do it, but they always manage to get the chicken just right. Nice and moist. I have no idea why Western places make their chicken dry like sand. The portion was beautiful, and made me one happy person. I will be back. Recommended.

Best. Spring rolls. Ever. Now that I got THAT out of the way, I was introduced to this place when one of my best friends twisted my rubber arm into joining her for some phở at her favourite Vietnamese restaurant. I am so happy that she did, because this was easily the best Vietnamese food I’ve had in a long time. To start, this place may not look particularly impressive when you first walk in, but then again, the best places rarely do. Yes, those ARE fabric Christmas poinsettias flanking the entrance way, and yes, the wood panelling on the walls is incredibly dated, but look closer: there are Vietnamese families eating here, and THAT, my friend, is always a good sign. Taking a cue from my friend, I ordered some spring rolls and a small bowl of rare beef phở. The spring rolls were quickly brought out to us, and as I mentioned above, they were easily the best spring rolls I’ve EVER eaten. Sure, the usual fillings were there, but they also had this delicious peppery flavour that I haven’t found anywhere else. When the phở arrived, I was shocked at how big the small bowl was. Despite being absolutely starving, I could barely eat half of what they had given me, although the deliciousness made me want to eat well beyond the point of personal comfort. The beef was tender, as were the noodles, and the flavours of sweet Thai basil, lime, and exotic spices were to die for. In the end, after two small bowls of phở, and two orders of spring rolls, our bill came to a hair over $ 20 after tax. I thought that was incredible, considering that we ate like kings. I was quite surprised when I later checked the Unilocal reviews, and found them to be abysmal at best. Sure, the service may not have been ultra friendly, but it was prompt and courteous –what more could you want from a place where you can get an massive sit-down meal for $ 10? All I know is, I will be back here again, and soon.

Indulged with my favorite Bin Bo Wae in the larger bowl(#13 on their menu). A perfect pick me up on this cold rainy Monday early afternoon!
