The Woof Dog Lounge & Spa

Let me just say, I had very high hopes for the Woof after reading all of the good reviews. Please note, my review is based off of a personal experience and personal opinion.
I brought my English Bulldog to The Woof on Wednesday, November 4, 2015 for daycare. Roughly 24 hours after picking him up from there he started vomiting. Long story short, over 7 weeks since I took my dog to The Woof, he had been chronically vomiting. I took him to two different vets that could not figure out what was going on with him (a whole other issue in itself). Finally, I took him to a third vet as he was EXTREMELY ill; vomiting digested food and blood. The third vet performed an ultrasound and found a foreign object lodged in his small intestine like a cork.
After a tough abdominal surgery, they removed the object to find that it was a piece of a TOY. The toy was most definitely not from my house as all of his toys are fully in tact. He did not have any other opportunity otherwise to chew or swallow objects/​toys than at the Woof. I find it hard to believe that it was just a coincidence that he started vomiting the day after he visited the Woof. Additionally, his intestine ruptured causing further complications, all because of incompetent vets and the fact that I had no indication that he swallowed anything.
I contacted the Woof about the situation and so far they have brushed it off saying «we only use products and toys of the highest quality for our services, and the toys we use are only used for play well under staff supervision».
I am writing this review to provide warning to other dog owners. I would not trust that the Woof is providing full supervision when your dog is playing with the toys they provide. My dog has been going through absolute hell since his visit there and my family has spent thousands of dollars on correcting the Woof’s negligence. Overall, it is just not worth it. I would rather my dog be at home by himself for a few hours a day than take him to daycare.

I love this place! I bring my terrible dog, Aldo here for daycare occasionally, but I really use them mostly for boarding him when other humans are going to be at my house. Tony, the owner I think, is amazing with Aldo and has taken him home with him sometimes to give him extra training and attention and is always honest with me about Aldo’s behavior. I’ve worked in dog daycares and as a groomer for 5 years and I can honestly say Tony and The Woof is a safe, friendly, good environment for my pup!

Love this place!!! Very loving and caring staff! It’s really a great place to leave you dog in, I trust them completely, the place is clean and they always play with the dogsled, making sure they exercise and have fun!
They upload videos and photos of your dog to Facebook so it’s always nice to see !
True sometimes our little mass makers play to hard but the staff will always let you know and make sure your dog gets the proper care in case of an injury.
It’s really a good place for your dog !

We went to The Woof for the first time when our puppy was only a few months old. It was a fantastic experience; she came back well-​groomed and happy.
More recently, we left our dog there for the second time for grooming and daycare, and it wasn’t the same experience, not by a long shot. Now, I’m aware that sometimes dogs can make it impossible to do certain things, but this seemed a tad unreasonable. When we picked our dog up, we were told that they had gotten her nails trimmed fine. Then, the receptionist added that they did their best, and then added that they couldn’t get all of them… and when I checked, there were 3 missed nails. Not a big deal, I suppose. Next, the receptionist told us that our dog didn’t like the blow dryer, so they let her air dry for a few hours. When we showed up, we could hear our dog barking from a small enclosed room, where we can only presume she was left for that time, alone. The whole reason we brought her to daycare was so our dog could socialize and play, not so she could be left in a room by herself. We could have done that at home. Our dog loves to be towel-​dried, so I’m not sure why the next measure was leaving her alone rather than trying this.
Finally, the price was quite unreasonable. This was on a Saturday, and we left our dog there for 5.5 hours. They offer a half day rate, which is 5 hours, and then they have a surcharge for each additional hour. I was expecting to be charged the 5 hours and then an additional hour to cover that half hour, but instead, they charged me a full day.
Sadly, for these reasons, I will not return to The Woof, and neither will our dog. Your results may vary.

The Woof Day Lounge and Spa is an awesome place. Staff there are very friendly. Allowed us to stay with Ozma for a few minutes and had a tour. Ozma started to sniff other dogs, run and chase. He loves it there. Prices are reasonable. Will book ozma in to try their spa: D

We take our dog Titan into the woof about once a week, and the only problem we have is getting him to come home at the end of the day! He loves it!
The staff is very friendly and accommodating. When we went on vacation Titan stayed at the woof for a week. The staff was great and flexible with the drop off/​pick up. Plus they upload lots of photos and videos of the dogs playing during the day, so we knew he was in good hands.

Word of warning… dropped off my dog for a day of play, got him back with damaged cartilage and bite marks on his ears. Vet said it was most likely a larger dog playing too rough (they don’t separate big dogs and small dogs) and it wasn’t caught by supervisors.
Might be an awesome place (besides this review they have many positive ones), but since I have a 6 month old puppy with torn cartilage and obvious bite marks on his ears I thought I should speak up.

I am definitely an over-​researcher, but it pays off! This place is amazing!
I use it for daycare and boarding at least once a week to get pup tired and socialized. The stuff is incredibly friendly and professional, always aware of what is happening with my dog. The price is similar to other places in the area BUT they are open till 7pm! which is a huge benefit for anyone who is working. There are also packages you can by for 10+ visits that cut down on price.
Will definitely continue to use it regularly and recommend to friends.

My dog has been to several daycares, and we’ve seen the good, bad and ugly.
First, I will start off with the positive: I like that they are open Monday — Saturday, have boarding, grooming, hiking, and valet services. Their facility is clean and bright. The staff were welcoming and friendly. The dogs at the daycare seemed well behaved. The staff take daily photos and video of your dogs, and upload it to their Facebook page so that you can see all the fun your dog is having throughout the day. There is a foot washing station that the dogs must go through before they leave, and if your dog is dirty they will clean up and brush your dog to ensure they go home clean. There is an outdoor as well as indoor space. There is someone with veterinary experience on staff, as well as a dog trainer, and one with nursing experience. The dogs are in a safe, clean environment with friendly staff. The prices are comparable to all other daycares: $ 25 for full day, $ 15 for half day (5 hours), $ 5 per hour, and they have 5-​day, 10-​day, and monthly packages. Valet pick up and drop off is an additional $ 5 each way, which is absolutely wonderful. They are also open at 7 am — until 7 pm.
The negative or what could be improved upon: They advertise 3000 square feet of play area, but there is really more like 700 square feet of actual play space in doors, and maybe a total of 750 – 800 sq. feet if you include the outdoor space. The rest of the facility — the reception + store front, and grooming area make up the rest of the daycare.
Due to the limited amount of space, the dogs don’t actually get that much exercise. If your breed of dog has high energy requirements, this is not the place to take them — you can see in the videos that the dogs mostly just walk around and maybe wrestle each other. There isn’t enough room to actually run. My dog needs a lot of exercise every day (3 – 4 hours). After 8 hours at daycare, my dog still comes home restless, dropping toys at my feet wanting to play. It’s more like a dog-​waiting-​room for him, unfortunately.
When a new dog is brought in, they are just let into the big room with the other dogs, and a staff person is there to assess the greetings. What I would like to see is an open gated area for the new dog to come in, check out the space in a safe place away from the other dogs, see and greet the dogs through the fence if they want to — then be let into the big room when they feel comfortable. You won’t always get a dog who feels comfortable being thrown in to «sink or swim» in a room full of 20 — 30+ dogs. Let the new dog tell you when they feel secure enough to do so by having this gated area as soon as you walk in.
Also, what would be a great idea is to have gates with castors on the bottom so that you can section off an area of the room for some dogs to play separately. This is what is done at the other daycare that we go to — when two or three dogs get along really well, the staff roll out the gates and close off a small portion so that they can play together, while the rest of the dogs (that might be more calm) can play in the bigger space. This is also customizable for «small dog-​only» areas, or «time-​out» areas, or «time for a nap» areas.
My dog is in the process of training to be Pet Therapy certified. One of our challenges has been to eliminate jumping-​up. It took quite a while to stop this behaviour, but only after one day at this daycare, my dog came home jumped up on me, our neighbour, jumped on the couch, etc… was not too happy about that, even though I was ensured by staff that that is not encouraged at the daycare. Unfortunately, I know that when a person walks into the room, the dogs come running up to the fence and jump up to say ‘hi’. Also, dogs are not made to sit and stay before given permission to go through a door — that was another manner that went right out the window.
I may sound picky, but these are touches that I appreciate, that I know are being implemented at the main daycare my dog goes to, run by a certified Dog Trainer and Animal Behaviourist. Time is taken to enforce good manners at that daycare, so the dog doesn’t go home a wild child, having forgotten any good behaviours that might have been learned in a six-​week Obedience Class (for example), or in Private Training — all things that time and money have been invested in.
We tried The Woof on the recommendation of a friend, and overall it’s one of the better daycares out there. However, there is room for improvement. We may still continue to come here, but maybe not all the time. It’s great because we can drop in, unlike our preferred daycare that only takes reservations and limits to only 8 — 10 dogs, so it can be inconvenient when you need daycare in a pinch.

Our pooch is a regular in daycare at The Woof and we are very pleased with the service. From the owners, to the the front shop workers I have yet to walk away with out getting great friendly service. Since our dog has been going to The Woof we have seen the great care they take into ensuring the dogs are supervised at all times and yet they still let them play wrestle and just be dogs.
Just recently we tried the grooming services for the first time after being tired of wrestling with our dog for two hours only to get a half done cut and leaving much to be desired. Tanya did an excellent job and did exactly what we had hoped for and gave our dog a great short coat for the summer and left her smelling great.
The other great part about this place is they upkeep a Facebook page so you can get daily pictures and videos of your dog in action and see a little behind the scenes footage. We will be continuing to be regulars at this place for as long as we are in the area.

I brought my Shih Tzu x Yorkie puppy here for her first full groom. To say Zoe is hyper is an understatement, this dog is crazy and pretty hard to handle.
Z was done in less than 2 hours, and looks like a totally different dog! No longer do I have a floor mop, but she came back a happy, great smelling, cleaned up little puppy.
She didn’t stay for any day care, but I took a little bit of a tour with the gentleman who greeted me at the front counter, and the dog play area is HUGE!
Will definitely be bringing my little terror back for more grooming and maybe some daycare too!

As good as it gets — super clean, smells nice as soon as you walk in the door. I used daycare, hikes and grooming services. My dog Jerry can be a bit wary of new places and being away from home but she LOVES this place. They also video the hikes and post them on facebook so you can see what your dog has done that day, that’s supercool. The grooming is awesome and well priced and the groomer is the owner so you don’t get a different person doing it everytime, you get consistent results. Definitely recommend!

Super friendly staff and great facilities for our four legged canine friends. They also have great products for sale in the front lobby area.
My guy loves coming here and the staff are with them all the time so I don’t ever worry about him. I only wish they had a location downtown but until then, I’m fine driving the 15 minutes to take him there.
