Jack’s New & Used Building Materials is a family owned and operated business currently run by the 3rd generation!

Started by Jack Pearson over 60 years ago, it was passed to Jack Jr. and then to it’s current owner Jack Jr.‘s son, Dave Pearson.

Dave started working for his father, Jack, at Jack’s New & Used when he was a teenager. He started with sweeping and worked his way up to crew manager.

It was always his intention to take over the family business, and a few years ago he purchased the company from his father, becoming the 3rd generation of Pearson to own Jack’s.

Interesting place to wander around. Lots of older antique pieces! On our excursion here we didn’t find anything in our price range, but a cool place nonetheless.

Over the years they have morphed from a really low cost used building store to a bit more of an upscale store that sells expensive re-​claimed antique-​ish door knobs. There is a deal or two there to be had. But, you have to haggle a bit, and a lot of their inventory is at least as expensive as new. So beware. They do have lots of old bits to finish you turn of the century house, but you will pay a tidy price. For example, they have a nice collection of old claw foot tubs, but you would do well to shop make sure you know what the going price is for one before you take a look at them. Don’t get me wrong — sometimes they have just the right thing. They have a huge door collection, but again watch the pricing. Some of their used doors are way more expensive then equivalent new ones. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the prices are negotiable.

Never did meet Jack.
But Mike was a big help!
Ventured here over the summer to pick up an odd sized door. Old Quirky. Lottsa character. Yep, they had it here.
Plus tons of other oddities. Stained glass windows, claw footed bath tubs, and so many doors. Big doors, little doors, metal doors, wood doors, cheap doors, and baller mansion doors.
And I didn’t even walk to the end of the lot. Gods knows what else this Jack guy has here?

Jack’s is the home reno equivalent of a good thrift store. They’ve got all kinds of building supplies, mostly used and loosely organized, with some strange treasures in the mix. Occupying a huge lot just off the highway in Burnaby, Jack’s carries mostly used building supplies and materials, much of which has either been salvaged from demolitions or bought from the public. Old doors, bathtubs and sinks, door knobs, stained glass panels, garden fixtures, even antiques — just about anything you can think of.
You’ll recognize the place when you find it by the big carriage out front. If you are poking around, don’t be too startled if you hear deep woofs coming from an interior office. The dog inside make look crazy and fierce, but he’s really just wants attention. Just say «Hi, boy,» and he’ll calm down, sort of.
