Gohan, where’s Goku? It’s kind of funny thinking back on Dragonball with the name Gohan, which also means a bowl of rice I believe. Who names their kid a bowl of rice? lol My Japanese friend suggested that we come here one sunny Saturday afternoon for a quick bite. So of course we did cause after he’s Jap, he know Jap right! We sat in and had a guy serve us and he was pretty good for the most part. I ordered the Black Dragon Roll and the Katsu Don. The Black Dragon roll was crab meat, eel inside with Avocado and tobiko on top and teriyaki sause drizzled around the place. I took my first bit into this thing and noticed the roll was almost more than 50% of the roll was rice. I took a look and somehow the roll managed to have a huge abnormal section of rice rolled into it. I showed it to my friend and he was surprise about how that roll can even be rolled like that lol. Turns out crab meat and eel were only in the center of the roll, meaning out of the 8 cuts, 3 – 4 pieces were super cheapped out. Flavours were good, rice over cooked, and quite a few blemishes on the avocado. Looked like quite the shaky hands making this roll. The Katsu Don also even worst with the rice. Seems like they took the same rice and cooked it even further. I’m extremely picky about rice, but if you can’t cook that right how can you dish out sushi? The pork was decent texture wise, but the lacked seasoning. Very disappointed with this dish, but I didn’t time to wait for another dish. I didn’t end up finishing my bowl, but I ate so of my friend’s food. The restaurant looked very clean, bright, and neat. It was promising when I first walked in, but I left hungry and sad in the end :(

Have been going to Gohan at least once a month. Went last week and things had changed for the worse. Most notably the seaweed quality was very poor and was very chewy. Seafood was not fresh. Prawns in tempura were small with far too much batter. The waitress had a friend in the restaurant and she spent most of the time with her ignoring the paying customers. We had a very poor experience in a place that we have previously enjoyed alot. It felt like Gohan may have changed hands. I may give it one more chance but it will be hard to get past the awful seaweed from our last visit. p. s. I do feel like I am wasting my time reviewing on Unilocal because they«filter» reviews from people like me who only review occassionally.

The service is pretty good. But their Alaska rolls and dynamite rolls are blah. They also got my order wrong, giving me gomae instead of edammame. Also, the gyoza is amazing here.

Small little Japanese restaurant run by taiwanese people. Service: great even though they only have one waitress. Just enough attention. Menu: offers a wide selection to choose from. Their take out menu is about the same. Their special rolls are pretty awesome. Price: better than Sushi Garden nearby. A little higher than Sushi Town but quality is better. Ambience: nice and clean. Minimal décor. Food: rolls are nicely rolled. Hot food is delicious, very tasty. Can choose brown rice for additional price. Sashimi slices are decent sized.

Love this place! Their chicken karaage is really really good! Service can sometimes be slow, but no complaints!

Fresh ingredients, good variety of rolls, moderately priced… I think they were favourably mentioned in The Vancouver Sun or the Province a few years back…
