History

Established in 1950.

COIT began offering cleaning services as a small dry cleaner in 1950, near the famous COIT Tower in San Francisco. Shortly after opening, founder Lou Kearn began offering something new that would set him apart from his competitors — drapery cleaning with a No Shrinkage Guarantee and a Satisfaction Guarantee.

His small business soon expanded to include carpet cleaning and upholstery cleaning, continuously evolving into a highly effective and trusted company. Today, COIT is one of the largest specialty cleaning and restoration companies in Canada, with additional operations in the United States and Thailand.

I have used Coit for two decades and have received nothing but top notch service. I’ve enjoyed excellent results with carpet, furniture and blind cleaning and repair. Their employees are courteous, fast, tidy and diligent. They have always honoured their quotes and their time commitments. Perhaps these negative reviews were from other districts, but here in Kitsilano I can only offer praise for Coit’s performance. I do find them a bit expensive, however, efforts to save money by using less expensive cleaners led to poor results.

DON’T EVER use this company for their services. I had my tiles cleaned by COIT. The technician, while very friendly, managed to ruin all the stainless steel appliances in my kitchen. The chemicals they use to clean the tiles splattered onto the bottom portions of my oven, fridge, and dishwasher. They are all now permanently stained with noticeable blotches and streaks. I called COIT to complain and they sent the same technician back to try and remove all the stains. After insisting the stains were there already, he left after his failed attempt. I called COIT again to complain. They said they would look into it with management and get back to me and then never did. This happened last Oct/Nov. and I still have yet to hear back from them. Shoddy workmanship, no accountability for the damage they created, and zero customer service. Like I say, DON’T EVER use COIT for any services.

I wish I had known about this company before I ever decided to do carpet cleaning.
Why? Because I would never had contacted them to do it. Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t mind their service but then my carpets weren’t that dirty. My landlords were nice and I just wanted to leave them with a nice clean place.
So then why do I regret this. Because of the constant nagging I get from their ad campaign. Honestly, I would have called you guys again if I ever needed carpet cleaning but you guys just don’t stop calling me every few months, sometimes every few weeks. Do you not understand the words «take me off your list», «I will call you if I need you», or «don’t call me again».
I even decided to sign up to Unilocal just so that I can leave a review. My first ever negative review in any site. Well, you have lost me as a customer as I have now blocked your number. And I hope to warn people that using your service means we sign up to a lifetime telemarketing commitment from you.

I used them once 4 years ago and my phone keeps ringing since then with their sales people trying to get me to book another service. the first year I told them to back off, remove my number, etc. They still call but at least I know the number now.

We are very disappointed with the quality of COITs work and their customer service. They will not stand behind their ‘ten year guarantee’, even after a few months. We had COIT clean and reseal the grout in our bathroom tile which had a few small areas of mould. They apply an acid that is to kill the mould and then apply a resin over the grout. The resin sample which the salesman applied on two inches of tile was thick and still looks ok. The resin the technician applied was thin and after a few months began to chip and mould. Since we had paid over $ 500 for the technician’s one hour of work, we expected more. I called back before the year was up to complain. After the second time I called, they said they would send someone out — but they send a salesman/estimator. When he saw the tiles and heard our story he said «I don’t know why they sent me, they should have sent a technician.» He promised to follow-up on it, but when no one called, after two weeks I phoned again. This time we were told it was being referred to a manager who would call. That was several weeks ago and no one has called. What a waste of time and money.

If you get any of their services expect to be called at least every couple months. I had my ducts cleaned in 2010 never used them again and they still call. First, I asked to have them not call, then I said I rent and don’t have ducts or carpet, then even said I’m leaving the country and wouldn’t be returning, yet they still call me in 2014. I just recognize their number now on call display and don’t answer. They are the herpes of carpet cleaning… Never goes away! 604−296−4000

I recommend Coit tile cleaning but NOT their carpet cleaning. .. .
My Berber carpeting is still stretched and buckled from Coit Victoria’s cleaning result a couple years ago. The beige carpet throughout my condo was left sopping wet and when I started using towels on it when Coit left they were turning gray-brown from absorbing the dirty water still left in my carpet. Yuck. The centre point of the carpet in the living room dried with three two-foot long buckles or pleats showing up that are obvious, ugly and unfixable. I use a dry carpet cleaning company now and while they can’t fix Coit’s damage, at least the carpet comes out clean.
Two stars for Coit’s tile cleaning and regrouting in the bathroom, that was satisfactory and is still holding up.

. They refused to the job upon arriving. Said the hose was too short, couldn’t do through the windows. Couldn’t do it from the other side of the house because the hose would get muddy (over sidewalk?). Called in another company who did the work no problem, for 50 dollars less. We told them Coit left and they said «let me guess– the hose was too short and they couldn’t go through the window»?
Guess the job was too small to be worth their time. Absolutely awful.

They came to our complex to clean the carpets and it didn’t even look like it was cleaned. We were charged four figures for nothing. In fact, I do think it was cleaner before they arrived and tracked mud all through the stairwells and down the hall. Biggest ripoff EVER. Will NEVER use them again and will NEVER recommend them to anyone. In fact, everyone I know has been warned. Now, you’ve been warned. They may quote the cheapest price but as they say, you get what you pay for.

If, like me, you come into possession of a carpet with a HUGE sentimental value of nebulous origins in dire need of a clean… what do you do?
Call COIT… seriously. All I knew about my rug is that my Grandmother bought it in the late 1920’s when she was very wealthy. It somehow survived the invasions of the Russian army as they raped and pillaged their way through the former Yugoslavia. She smuggled the rug to Canada in the 50’s along with 3 fine linens, and cash stuffed in her bloomers, with two little kids in tow.
The reason I write this is because that is all we knew. The COIT guys know their rugs. When the tech came by to estimate the cleaning, it was like an episode of the Antique Road show. I now know the weave, the originating country, the approximate age, the value and much more.
Had I wanted to invest in a restoration of the damage and not just a cleaning, they have a master weaver on staff who can fill in a mouse hole in the fabric if needed. Seriously.
The cleaning was $ 179 and it looks as good as new, even the fringe was preserved to last. I can’t tell you how thrilled I am with the service quality, they were on time and polite… but most importantly they gave me another piece of my family puzzle to fill in the picture.
