Cockney Kings Fish & Chips

Just stopped in real quick after work on a whim. Food turned out really good and amazing customer service. Food was out in 5 minutes and large portions.

It is the best fish and chips you’ll find in town.
Try not to over eat the amazing food. I’ve been coming here since I was a kid, and the staff is always friendly, and the food has always tasted great!

I went to this place after reading these positive reviews and I was not disappointed.
Food: I haven’t had Fish&Chips this good for some time. The portions are MASSIVE, with each piece looking to be about 10 – 12 inches long. Quality and quantity. Just the right amount of grease, batter, and juice in the fish and the fries were also tasty. Much better than you’d get at other restaurants in the GVRD.
Service: The food took less than 5 minutes to arrive, and was prepared right after our order. The restaurant was fairly full, but we were taken care of and did not have to wait long for anything. I haven’t had that kind of service from more expensive restaurants.
Value: The price for a massive F&C platter is under $ 10. Since the food tastes good, the value is outstanding.
Ambiance: the only ‘failing’ is that Cockney Kings is a greasy spoon in terms of appearance. There are the usual English trinkets on the walls, but it is certainly not the place for a fancy date. What do you expect for a casual F&C place? The cockney slang table mats were good for a chuckle, though.

Had the All You Can Eat Fish and Chips. Each round was perfectly fried. Service was quick and very accommodating. My server was very attentive to every table she had to serve.

Always great here, fish is perfect, fries pretty good too. Friendly staff! Mon, tues, wed is all you can eat pollock which I love. Wish they offerred it every day.
Cole slaw ok, nothing spectacular.

We had the Cod Fish and chips. Excellent batter and not over cooked. Service was excellent. I would recommend this restaurant, and lots of parking. We will be back.

Ah, the classic British take away dish. Fish n’ chips. Well, this is the BEST place for it, a real bang for your buck compared to other fish n chips places. I just don’t like the location e_​e. I had a Seafood chowder, and a piece of Halibut and chips. First of all, the price is MUCH more cheaper when take out, rather than eat in, but that’s your opinion on how and what you want to order.
The chowder was really good. They didn’t skim on the ingredients. There were nice, big chunks of halibut, lots of clams, some smoked bacon, a few scallops, in a nice chicken broth.
Now, for the FISH.
The batter was one of the, dare, I say, best in the lower mainland. Golden and really crispy. It wasn’t that oily tbh, which I liked. The fish was undoubtedly fresh. So moist and delish: P. The staff was really nice too.

Defiantly great price and quality. I’m surprised people like Pajo’s more. Portions are great, staff are friendly, and really fresh fish. What’s not to love?

I have to say Cockney Kings is not the place it once was. I have been repeatedly disappointed with meals since it’s most recent management change. Prices have been going up. Portion sizes have been going down. Worst of all, the quality of the fish has gone downhill considerably. Our orders have been mixed up 3 out of the last 3 times we’d had takeout there. After over 25 years of making this our go to fish and chip shop I think we’re going to have to find someplace new.

Definitely some of the best fish and chips in the GVA and excellent service to boot! DH and I were here on Friday for an early dinner and, as always, it didn’t disappoint!
(Side note: Holy crap! Our server was crazy pretty! Server appearance doesn’t factor into a review as long as said server is clean but wow! This woman was so pretty! AND really sweet so I couldn’t even be a little jealous lol.)
I had the one piece halibut with a side of mushy peas and a glass of wine. The mushy peas sound weird but they’re really good! And the wine? The glass was little but they filled that sucker right to the top. I like full wine glasses so that was ok by me!
The husband had the two piece haddock and he really liked it too.
Overall we left very satisfied and the entire bill clocked in around $ 40.00 so not too shabby at all :)

The food was delicious, fast and piping hot when it came to my table. I had the one piece halibut and chip meal, which only set me back $ 10.
The service at the Burnaby location was excellent — my waitress, Carissa, made sure I had everything I needed, and was so friendly while remaining efficient. I would definitely recommend this place for both the food and service.

Oyster burger dinner– yum just as good as fresh local wild food truck except cheaper $ 10.95 and there’s an onion ring in the middle. They pile on the fries and give you a lot of coleslaw.
Hubby has the all you can eat fish and chips with pop– the deep fried fish was not very greasy and tasted delicious.
The place is seat yourself– and we went on a Monday night– they were super busy it can fit around 50 people lots of people lining up for takeout too but we still got seats right away
Parking is easy there’s a parking lot right in front.

The food is delicious, the prices are great and the staff was friendly. I had the oyster burger with onion rings. These were the best onion rings I’ve ever had. The badder is light and fluffy, melt in your mouth good! My husband had the cod which was amazing. The quality of food really shines here. Great place to get your fish and chips fix!

Meh… Not sure if we would come back. We both had the 2 piece cod fish and chips. Found the cod overcooked/​fried resulting in some of the pieces dry and hard. Batter on the oily side. Fries were ok. Kid friendly place and service was friendly though a bit slow.

Best fish and chips in greater Vancouver area. Well cooked dishes and friendly staff.
The service was quick and nifty. I recommend Cod or Halibut and onion rings!

Tried this place out last night and it was amazing! We ordered our meal to go as the restaurant was very busy. Despite how packed it was we did not have to wait more than 15 minutes for our food. I had the Halibut and Poutine and my girlfriend had Chicken strips and Chips. The fish was very good, flaky and tender, and the poutine was definitely one of the better ones I’ve had. As for the Chicken Strips and Chips, she said the fries were really good but wished they made the chicken with the fish batter as opposed to just being breaded.
Overall I would definitely go again and would recommend this place to anyone looking for a great fish and chips place.

This was our second visit. We missed our opportunity to post a review after our first visit. It was delicious both times! First time we couldn’t eat all of our meal, so this time we didn’t eat lunch — so that we’d be SO hungry we’d eat the entire meal. Nope… I couldn’t finish. While we went so that my husband could enjoy fish and chips, I couldn’t wait to sink a fork into the meat and mushroom pie! Again, I couldn’t finish the bread portion of the pie. And it WAS SO GOOD! And there was NO WAY I could finish the fries. We love this place, it’s going to be one of our «must go to» places when we visit Canada.

The fish is good and cooked well, however, they don’t make their own fresh tartar sauce. No, instead they have a bucket of stupid, little, disgusting tartar sauce packets for you to smother on that beautiful fish. No lie, McDonald’s has better tartar sauce than this!
Such a shame!

Best fish & chips in the lower mainland.
I’ve been coming to this location for the past 20 years. Cooks come and go but the food stays the same. The food actually tastes better wrapped in newspaper and the chips are AMAZING.
They have all you can eat but damn, all you can eat fish & chips? Check yourself before you wreck yourself.

My order:
2 piece haddock
onion rings (side)
Haddock — I should have ordered one piece instead of two, as the portions were too big for me. The fish was fresh, moist and flavourful. The batter was light and crispy. It wasn’t very oily at all generally speaking, but it was oily for me as I am not accustomed to eating oily battered foods. It’s definitely one of the the best battered fishes I’ve had. One suggestion I’d give is instead of using a traditional fish and chip batter, how about a panko-​based batter? It would be lighter, crispier, and even less oily. Food for thought.
Onion Rings — I was so surprised when my bill came that they didn’t charge me for the onion ring substitute, as they are worthy of the additional cost. It uses the same batter as they do for the fish, it came with 8 huge pieces of onion rings, where I only managed to eat half of it. Don’t get me wrong, I am not a small eater by any stretch of your imagination, but the portion size at Cockney’s is huge. The onion rings were very crispy and tasty. Will definitely order that again.
Tartar Sauce:
In-​house made Tartar sauce where you get a huge bottle at your disposal. No tiny containers of Tartar sauce that accompanies your meal, where you have an inner struggle of deciding whether to use it on your fish or your chips because there isn’t enough to go around. Thumbs up Cockney’s.
Service:
Restaurant was not very busy when I went. I was directed to sit anywhere I please. The server was very attentive and refilled my glass of water throughout the meal without having to flag her down.
Suggestions:
–More coleslaw (or option to add more coleslaw) would be great as I felt that there wasn’t enough to cut the grease.
–Panko-​based batter for fish? It would be a fusion for sure.
One star taken away for lack of coleslaw. It was my first visit here and I’ll definitely be back again for more and try other items on the menu. Wish I knew about this restaurant sooner. It’s a real gem.

Have we finally found good, wholesome Fish ‘n Chips around Vancouver? I dare say we have. I was told about this place not long ago and couldn’t wait to give it a try. Normally, when I hear about «good» F&Cs, I tend to take it with a grain of salt. But I had a good feeling about this place and was quite excited.
They have two locations. Burnaby is just closer for me. I’m sure both branches serve up the same quality. The Burnaby branch is rather small and homely. On the Sunday of our visit, we were told to seat ourselves. We chose a nice corner table, right by the decorative old guns. The walls are mounted with little «English» trinkets, dish cloths and well… guns.
The paper placemat shows Cockney slangs (new and old!) on one side, and becomes a kids’ placemat on the other — colouring, connect the dots, etc. We had a good laugh going through the placemats while waiting for our food. Needless to say, time flew by and our food came (in what felt like) in no time!
We ordered two Haddocks and two Cods. The Haddocks were slightly larger than the Cod, with a very mild price difference. A 2-​piece Haddock costs $ 14.00. I would recommend the Haddock over the Cod — flavour and pricing. Check out their menu! The coating of the batter was slightly inconsistent, as we had nice, thin batters on some pieces and thicker, oily batters on others. If that can be fixed, this place would be golden! Did I mention that the meal comes with bread and butter as well? Oh boy… It was a meal, all right. We debated the chowder, and decided against it. Next time!
We were so pleased with our find that we are already talking about our next visit. In case it wasn’t obvious, we love this place and we will be back!
