Very poor quality hair cut. My hair looks worse than ever — it was cut in chunks with blunt scissors and no professionalism. I am disappointed and regret going there. The work station also appeared very dirty. I will suggest avoiding this place.

Sorry just wanted to correct my mistake, the great and wonderful hair stylist’s name is Nima Sarami. My stupid tablet autocorrected it. Nima was the owner of Brava salon but has closed the salon at Brentwood Mall. He is now currently working at Eccotique Salon at Metrotown where I will be now going to. Kinda sucks that Brava doesn’t exist anymore I liked the salon and the quiet mall. Oh well at least now its closer to home.

I’ve been going here on and off for 4 – 5 years because it’s close to home. I have never been overly happy with a hair cut and I always felt that’s because of my hair type. fine and flat. Doesn’t hold a curl. When I met Nima, everything changed. He is amazing! He takes the time to listen to what you want and offers input. He has years of experience and is very knowledgeable. He totally took my drab hair and made it look the best it could look. Unlike other hair stylists who load my hair up with products(only to have it fall flat and matted in an hour), he gives me a great cut and uses very little product and my hair looks fab until I wash it. Even after washing my hair still looks great. I used to put off going for a hair cut and would go 2 – 3 times a year because either they didn’t do what I wanted, or they didn’t do much. Now I look forward to getting my hair cut and go every 2 – 3 months. I suppose this review has been more for Nima than the salon. The salon itself is nice and clean. The front staff are usually polite. If you go here, book your appointment with Nima!

I used to work in the mall, so this was the most convenient place to cut my hair for me. The girl who cut my hair was the Japanese woman(don’t remember her name). Very nice, they tried their best to cut my hair the way I wanted it and everyone was very friendly. Didn’t have to wait long. First time, I got my hair bleached and dyed blonde. Took a total of 3 hours. Don’t expect anything special of the hair shampooing. They were patient and gave me this huge chart with hair samples and helped me figure out which hair dye I wanted to have what kind of effect. Second time, I got a hair trim. Nothing much to note. Also came here to buy shampoo and conditioner. Seems like everyone has different opinions on what is the best.

I went to Brava because it’s close to my office and all I wanted was a bang trim. The stylist who attended me, Savario, thought I was in for a haircut so we ended up discussing my current style at the time. He pointed out what was wrong with my cut(which was a cut I wasn’t happy with) and how he would cut it. He has years of experience and it’s apparent he has more schooling in terms of using the right techniques for the individual, rather than just cutting according to a formula regardless hair type, face shape, etc, which some of the younger stylists seem to do. Anyway, I decided to let him do the cut and it was the best cut for my wavy, thick hair. I’ve been back three times and been very happy with his cuts and he is open to my suggestions on lengths of layers. I’ve not gone anywhere else since. I should say I didn’t give 5 stars because the wash is not very relaxing, and the water temperature did fluctuate. But for the price, I don’t care, and anyway, haircuts never used to come with a head massage and I’d rather pay separate for that.

When I’m spending $ 35-$ 50 on a hair cut, I expect at the least a good hair wash(slight scalp massage, warm water, decent shampoo/conditioner), a good cut — either by being creative or asking what I want, trying to grasp my look/personality, and finished with either a basic blow dry/style. I expect to feel relaxed and pretty when leaving and satisfied with my purchase, even if it’s not the best hair cut. Brava Hair salon left me none of these. My hair stylist was named Melanie, she was super cute and seemed nice. I opted for a Wash & Cut for $ 35 which does not include blow dry or style. I figured I can save $ 10 and do this at home. Anyways, problem 1 began with the wash. the water went from cold, warm, cold again making me feel stiff. The wash was quick and no massaging included… didn’t even make my hair feel clean. I really wanted to treat myself and relax on my day off so the poor wash was a disappointment. It didn’t feel soft and conditioned properly either. But this I got over. I have thick wavy hair so I told her I wanted ½ an inch cut, some thinning out, and just a touch up on my layers. I wanted my hair to look long and pretty and sit nicely while feeling a little lighter(I straighten my hair). I also specified I didn’t want short layers because it makes me look like a mushroom head. She cut my hair, told me she’d take a little but more off just to clean it up a little which was fine. Because my hair is wavy when wet I cant tell how it really looks until I straighten it. When I got home and straightened it, I ended up with what looks like a mullet. The top half of my head is super short, and thick. The bottom is long like I wanted. Not to mention it’s really sloppy, there’s a chunk that is longer than the rest. The framing is uneven. And I basically have to either wear a hat or clip back a big chunk of the top right side of my hair to look half decent. My biggest issue is not with the unevenness but how short the top is, as I can’t grow it back and will have to deal with it until it does. It can’t be fixed unless I get extensions. So I called them and nicely told them that I was really unhappy with my hair cut, and I would prefer a refund and can come in and show them the issue. Melanie(who answered the phone and didn’t even apologize), said if I want I can speak to the manager tomorrow who will also tell me I can’t get a refund but they can have someone try to fix it. I never cry over something as stupid as my hair, but I actually was really upset by this whole situation and how she handled it. Not to mention you have no idea how I feel every time I straighten my hair and I feel hideous in the mirror. No offense, but I’m not too keen on going back even if someone is going to attempt to fix it. I’m a pretty reasonable person, and I don’t think i’ve ever been so disappointing in a business/service before on so many different levels.

The first time I went here I was in a little bit of a bind. Having just moved into Burnaby I wasn’t sure where to go(these were my pre-yelp days) and I needed a cut ASAP. Living close to Brentwood Mall meant I could drop in and hopefully have a «good» selection of «salons» to choose from. From what I could see Brava seemed to be a good choice despite being attached to chatters. The place was packed but they were able to squeeze me in. The rest was history. I’ve had 4 different stylists since then and the last ones a keeper. I would highly recommend Jennifer(not sure of her last name). Always on board and always ready to offer her opinion. Even though I’ve since relocated I still find myself driving the half hour back out to Burnaby to get my cut!

I found the Brava Salon through some random bing searching, checked out the stylist profiles, and they all seemed to have good qualifications, and the price was right so I booked a visit. When I arrived I was a little put off when I discovered it was a Chatters franchise, but I was booked and still felt confident in getting a good new hair style. Best decision ever. My stylist took the time to discuss what I wanted in terms of color and gave me her expert opinion on how blond to go and found a fantastic shade, as well as my lifestyle, what I usually do to my hair and what I need it to do. She stayed with me and kept an eye on my processing hair to ensure it wasn’t being too damaged and wouldn’t over process, she described herself as very«hands on.» Elated about my color cut was next — I am always someone who walks in not knowing what they want she my stylist had creative freedom. The cut rivaled the fantastic job she did coloring. The best part, she chatted away with me the whole time(no leaving you to read old tabloid magazines), and was just fabulous all around. I will definately go back to this salon, and the stylist I had in particular(although I was watching the other stylists and they look to be fantastic as well). The best part is definately my new hair, and I am happy to report that the cost didn’t put a harsh dent in my bank account.
