One gets the impression upon entering the Quality Inn Brantford that somehow the corporate offices of Quality Inn Inc. have forgotten to notify the folks at 664 Colborne St. that in fact their property had been closed sometime in the late eighties. Whether for good or ill however, the hotel seems to be owned by a single person; a person who is inevitably referred to in response to any and all complaints e.g. «I can’t do anything about it now, but I can let the owner know when he gets in.» In most cases this is unfortunate but not completely unexpected, empowerment being such a rare commodity in the chain hotel business. Sadly, once notified, he seems no more competent than the employees when it comes to fixing anything. I say seems because there is always the possibility that he just doesn’t care. Such qualities are poorly suited for the hotel business in general but especially for this property as many things in it are either broken or in a state of useless disrepair. The odd light, the ice machine, even the air conditioning are unconvincing in their role of something that will be fixed tomorrow«soon as the guy gets in» as the signs identifying them as out of order all show indications of long exposure. The free Wi-Fi can be charitably described as «symbolic». The fitness room is ironically un-fit and is indistinguishable from a room full of junk. I could go on but I’ve already wasted a lot of time on this place. The other posts do a good job filling in the bits I’ve left out; not the least being difficult to correct mischarges to my credit card, and that weird smell is still there more than six months later. Of course I don’t know if it’s the same smell, but I don’t know if that would necessarily be better. Let me just say that this shouldn’t reflect on Quality Inns in general as I’ve stayed in others that aren’t bad. I have regular business in Brantford and would have liked to stay somewhere close, but I’ll be making the commute from Hamilton in the future.

As I see the other reviews that have been posted I felt at first like I didn’t need to post my own review as it would be pointless to reiterate what has already been said, but then I see a few things were missed, so I shall fill them in. I was in Brantford on business for 2.5 weeks. My companies hospitality department booked me here solely based on what the website listed as amenities and the proximity to the company office. What they did not know was that this place was an utter dump. When I got to my room there was an odor that I couldn’t quite figure out what it was until I opened the window to my balcony(if you want to call it that it was only 2 feet wide) where a dead bird was lying, right next to where the A/C unit’s vent that sucked in air was. I called the front desk and asked them to take care of it and also asked for something to freshen the room’s smell. A lady showed up 45 minutes later with a can of knock off Fabreeze and said here you go. Lovely, so I sprayed half the bottle through the room to get rid of the order. The next morning the dead bird was still there so I got a trash bag, picked it up and left it at the front desk where no one was at. Would have loved to see the look on their faces when someone did. The«restaurant» inside of the hotel was not much better. The bartenders moved at half the speed of smell even though they were younger than me(34) and couldn’t remember my order 10 seconds after asking me for the fifth time. After a week there I get a call to my room Friday night at 9:30 to alert me that there was a gas leak and I needed to get out right away. I walk to the front of the building and standing by the door to the restaurant is the manager, the owner of said establishment, and the two bartenders all of which were smoking cigarettes. I wanted to walk up to them and smack them all in the head but passed on the opportunity. Didn’t get back in my room until 11:00pm which I had to be back at the office at 8:00am. The bathroom mirror was cracked in three places, I had to fix the toilet three times to keep the water from constantly running, the shower curtain had mold growing on it, the shower head had hard water rust stains, and the entire sink leaned to the left. The laundry room washing machine was still broken. I say still because a fellow coworker was at this same project a month earlier and it was broken when he was there for two weeks. Still reading? Good, to sum this entire thing up if you are thinking about booking a room here, DONT!!! This place has taken over $ 3400 of my companies money between me and my coworker and not a damn thing was fixed. There are other places near by that are the same or less per night and are way cleaner. I have contacted our hospitality department and told them to NEVER book another reservation at this place.

I stayed in this hotel during the second half of my Canada trip for a musical festival. I will NEVER again stay here or in any of their other hotels. It looks OK from the outside and at the front desk but that ends there. There are spiders and webs everywhere! The lighting was not good as it was dim and in different sections flickering. During my stay, there was this weird decaying smell coming from a nearby room. I called the front desk clerk, and told her to check it out. She was polite but not helpful as I waited two hours to see if anything would be done, and saw nothing. By the third night, the smell became so strong, that I could smell through the door in my hotel room. Ugh! The only good thing is that the had a decent continental breakfast, with boiled eggs, fruits, breads and spreads, yogurt, cereal, milk, coffee(not that good — thankfully there was a Tim Hortons nearby) and teas. The foods were replenished consistently and the waitstaff were helpful. This help fuel as I spent many long days at the music festival, only to return to the hotel to sleep for a couple of hours. No issues with checkout. My room was serviced daily. But that darn smell remained in the hallway…

I’m not a complainer, so I wasn’t even going to bother with the mildew in the common hallways, or the inconvenient halls and doors you need to navigate to get to your room or the noise at night, not even the complete lack of electrical plugs in the room, but when you steal my money. You get a response. This hotel charge me 3 times for my stay, 3 different amounts even, and has yet to give me my full refund. Oh, they gave me a partial and then another small amount, but they still posses over $ 200 of my money and with the exchange rate etc. I know I’m never gonna see all of it, but after two weeks of dealing with them, this is ridiculous and fraud. They have been dismissive of my complaint, only contacting me twice in two weeks where as I have had to call them a dozen times, sent faxes and emails etc., and have treated me like I am making up my complaint even with proof of the triple charge sent to them. There has been no apology and most important, they still have my money. The general manager«spoke at» me(not to me) on the phone over a week ago, acknowledging the need for my additional refund and said he would call me back that day(Sat.) or on Monday. Nothing. No calls, so I gave him a week and still nothing, nor a refund. Called today and was told my contact was there, but was transferred to voicemail. Other hotels will apologize, or offer a free night or something, nothing from this joke of customer service. I’ve never come close to an experience this bad while traveling. Horrible hotel.
