We stopped by this cute café on the way to Halifax. I got the ham and cheese panini with a beet side salad. Both were a perfect lunch portion and delicious! My husband got the fish and chips. This was a huge portion. He loved it! We had impeccable service. While we were paying for our food we were asking about the toll to get into Halifax. We only have America dollars so we were concerned that we wouldn’t be able to get through. A kind customer gave us Canadian money for the toll! It was a nice atmosphere with blues music playing in the background. I highly recommend this place!

We tried this place on the recommendation of a foodie friend who raved about the place. The server let us try a taste of the blue cheese sauce before deciding on the Dragon’s breath burger with a side of wicked fries(cheese fries with portobello mushrooms) and the apple salad followed by a delicious slice of coconut pie. The list of local suppliers above the front windows was a nice touch. Service was attentive and friendly. We have a new favourite place.

The Union St. Café is my favourite place to eat when I’m visiting my family. It goes without saying that if my family reads this, I’ll be in huge trouble. Let’s try to keep this to ourselves, shall we? It’s a long way to go for the perfect Clubhouse Sandwich, but I promise you it’s worth the drive. I mean… if you live in Berwick it’s not a long way to go. Of course. But from Halifax it’s a longish haul. I’d do it more regularly but that would mean I’d have to visit my Mom while I was out there as well, so you know how that is. The servings are generous and hearty, the ingredients are of the highest quality, and the flavours are amazing. With the added benefit of friendly service and prompt attention the place deserves all five stars and maybe a small bonus star. *. On Friday nights they have live music and give you tasty treats like free mussels, to encourage you to hang out and mingle.(as an aside: This is an ideal time to meet attractive local people who may have already met/dated everyone in the area and are keen to meet someone new. This is where a «Halifax 7» can appear to be a «Berwick 10», due to an attractiveness skewing that can be attributed to a phenomenon known as geographical diversity.) Drive out there, eat some divine and nutritious food, smile at a guitar player; you won’t regret it.

We stopped in at the Union Street Café one day when we were driving by Berwick and dying to find a place to eat. I must say, we were really impressed by what we found. Upon entry to the Union Street Café, you can choose to dine on the café side(casual dining room style), or at the Wick Pub, it’s even more relaxed counterpart. The décor was eclectic, with bright colours and yet also homey, and the food was just the same. I had the meatloaf with fresh veggies and the gingerbread with lemon sauce for dessert — both were delicious. And being able to wash them down with freshly made lemonade was pretty awesome, too. We poked our head in the Wick Pub side and our server told us that they host weekly open mics, and they also have ticketed shows and concerts. I’ll definitely keep my eye out for shows at the venue, and I think that a sunny day this summer may find us at the Union Street Café once again.

A post-Gala Days 5-Miler favourite! Brunch here is great. There’s a breakfast buffet with an assortment of tasty things like sausages, bacon, baked beans, fish cakes, eggs, muffins, and salads. Good coffee, too. On the menu… can’t go wrong. Really! The burgers are hand patted from local beef, the pork is pulled from local pigs, the chicken from a local farm. They source what they can from the wealth of options available in the valley. The service can be a bit off-hand(but friendly) but don’t let that stop you! You can spend any extra time reading the quotes on the walls.

This is primarily a review of the Wick Pub, which is colocated with the Union Street Café though the food was from the Union Café menu. Ate here as part of a wedding party. The beef tenderloin was properly cooked and tasty and the portion size was good to enormous. A limited beer selection was offset by the fact that four of the beer available were excellent brews from Propellor and Stutz cider, locally produced in Berwick was available by the bottle. Great live music the night we were there and friendly, if overwhelmed, service. You will not regret trying the coconut cream pie, or for a more unusual post dinner sweet try the peanut butter chocolate cheesecake.
