This has always been my «go-to» Sobeys grocery store since it’s the closest to home, and also easy to get to on both the Bedford Highway and Hammonds Plains Rd. Also just a short jaunt off the 102. I am, however, re-evaluating my choice to pick this branch as my default place to buy food, and have found myself more and more using the larger, newer and better stocked Sobeys at the Larry Uteck exit off the 102. But back to this location, access can be a bit of a nightmare during rush hour since both HP rd and the Beford Hwy can get super backed up, and the surrounding intersections become hazardous to say the least when traffic peaks. The inside of the store seems new and bright, though the layout is a bit more confusing than other Sobeys. This could possibly be due to recent renovations, having to overlay a new layout over old infrastructure. Other than that, the staff are super friendly and seem to enjoy working there, which is always a good sign.

Everyone has their own Sobeys, and this one happens to be mine. It’s not the biggest or newest building, but it’s well stocked and the greens are fresh and usually pretty varied. The seafood and butcher’s area is always clean and well presented, and the meat is delicious. They also have an excellent«Hippy Section», as I’ve always called it, full of healthy foods and ethical household supplies. I can’t think of anything majorly wrong with this location. Sometimes they dont have everything I need(Artichokes, why are you never here?) but they come pretty darn close. It can be a bit tricky to finds things sometimes, but if you’ve ever played a point-and-click game, you can usually deduce where everything is. No basil in the the herb section? Check with the tomatoes up front. Can’t find the pancake batter? Check with the syrup, not with baking. It’s either a fun brain teaser, or a deeply frustrating exercise, depending on your mood. Plus the cashiers are always hilarious, which is always a bonus!

I work in Bedford and decided to venture to this Sobeys one day after work instead of the one I normally go to in Dartmouth. After going the wrong way on the Bedford highway and almost ending up at who knows where(I suck at directions), I turned around and eventually found Sobeys. I was shocked at the size of this Sobeys, I have never seen such a large location. I walked in and was overwhelmed, I was not sure where to begin my shopping. It had it’s own café area and everything seemed neatly organized with its own sections. Just a side comment — I usually go to Sobeys for better deals, but they recently raised the price of the turkey hotdogs that I buy for my boyfriend who cannot eat red meat(but superstore still sells them for much cheaper). It was nice to see a new and clean Sobeys that is centrally located with plenty of surrounding places to shop and eat, and there was plenty of parking which is another good feature.

While in recent months the correct term to describe this store could have been«clusterfuck», the renos seem to be finished and what’s left is a bright and shiny new store. The foyer ever still has that new carpet smell! This store is massive and definitely caters to suburbia. But what’s good for soccer moms is good for me.

I’m not really sure what’s going on at this Sobeys. Clearly, she’s an older model who should be treated with respect, but instead, they let her progress past repair before starting to haphazardly upgrade her entire physique piece-by-piece in no particular order. The result? The Sobeys version of Frankenstein. Shopping here isn’t all together unpleasant… it’s just jarring compared to most of the others that have a proper organization system, good navigational checkpoints above aisles and special features, and a more intelligent amount of space near the cash registers. And yes, I take grocery shopping far too seriously.
