Freak Lunchbox

Just as good as the Halifax location.

Like its parent store, it is unique and quirky!
The differences become apparent quickly after that!
The bedford store is MUCH smaller looking, but not feeling for some reason, mind you they also appear to have slightly less product then the mother store.
The selection does feel more limited in the Bedford store, but I can still find my staple favourite candies!
The staff is less friendly then the downtown location, but thats mostly because beford is a quieter and more laid back let people browse type without greeting instantly.
I will admit, its always Impeccably clean!
I’ll keep shopping at the mother store, but if I’m ever in the area, i’ll pop in.

Fun candy shop, lots of variety. The only complaint I have is with how stale the bulk candy is. I bought a take out box full this weekend and 90% of the candy in my box was hard, my teeth can’t handle that anymore. Bulk barn’s candy is much fresher. I’ve also been to Dylan’s candy bar in New York and sugar factory in Vegas and did not encounter this issue with their bulk candy, perhaps they should put out less candy at a time since they don’t go through it as quickly…

Downtown Halifax’s little brother/​sister doesn’t disappoint.
Plenty of fun to be had with their overflowing shelves of a plethora of candies and other novelty gifts.
It’s always bustling with folks, so it can be a task to get to the candies.
I often find myself in there, spending more money than I should be on candy. Of course you pay more for the novelty of the candy but can you blame yourself? It’s a store just beaming with fun and has a way of making you feel like a kid again and again.
Take a step back into your childhood and let it be wide-​eyed and giddy!

Fun candy store for kids or adults. Wide selection of candy and novelty items.

More candy than I would ever know what to do with (ok, except EAT IT!). Bulk candy, packaged candy, imported candy, and all in a colourful and novelty toy filled shop. It feels like you’re in that candy store in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
My two favourite things: They have sour candy and chocolate covered gummy bears. These are the only things that matter in my little world. Ok, not quite but you get the general gist of where my priorities lie. Love this place.

Bulk candy is bad enough for my impulsive purchase habits. Bulk candy in a bright, colourful environment with more than enough to catch your eye from vintage circus posters to bobblehead characters of all kinds, well, let’s just call that game over.
While I’m dancing around little kids in this teeny tiny and jampacked shop, I’m also loading up Peanut M&Ms and Jelly Bellys (pear and peanut butter are the only flavours that matter) without thinking of the consequences — both the fact that my bill tends to be well over $ 30, and the fact that I end up eating the vast majority of these in the four to six hours that follow.
My only saving grace is that there is no Freak Lunchbox in Dartmouth.

Freak Lunchbox helped me pull off an at-​home Japanese feast with style. Their candy selection is unprecedented in Halifax, and their small selection of unique Japanese treats and toys helped turn my date night dessert into a SUPER-​HAPPY-​FUN-​TIME!
Go here, with your kids in tow, and then go again while they’re at school so you can enjoy the place for yourself.
And if you really want to impress that special him/​her, buy them some Giant Pocky.

Oh Freak Lunchbox.
Sometimes working in suburbia can get to a girl, so luckily this place exists for a quick sugar fix when Stepford gets overwhelming. While the store is a bit bigger, I enjoy the downtown location more. It seems more energetic and the staff tend to be a bit friendlier. However! I will continue to blow my money here on candy that makes my teeth hurt. There’s some things you’re just never too old for.

I’m addicted to chocolate. I’d like to say something like ‘not just any chocolate’ because that would give my story more depth and intrigue but there you have it. I am particularly fond, however of Galaxy Ripples, a chocolate bar native to the UK. This is how I’m starting my review. Saddle up, I’m tried and this is going to get ramble-​y.
Upon entering we were greeted by 3 voices all welcoming us into the shop which I guess was nice but for me (retail) enthusiasm is generally unnecessary. I feel your pain cashiers. I was sort of surprised to see some children hanging out by the edible underwear, or even being at the store in general but that’s due mostly to my hatred towards children.
The speakers were blaring classic rock (the kind Patrick Bateman would have playing when he hacked people apart in American Psycho) much to my husband’s delight. I was impartial to the music but was happy to not have to hear top 40 music. Seriously Katy Perry, get off my lawn.
I basically have a nose for Galaxy Ripples. If they’re around I’m like a bloodhound chasing after an escaped convict. There’s no hiding from me. I could have went straight to the middle of the shop where I could see Curly Wurly’s, Double Deckers and Yories, all UK chocolate bars of course. But no, I turned left towards the edible underwear and tins filled with inedible mints section. There, nestled in the corner far away from it’s British Bretheren was a small box of Galaxy Ripples. DAY EQUALS MADE.
Something takes control of me when I see Galaxy Ripples. Instead of grabbing a few and being content in knowing I’ll be snacking on my fave candy bar for a few days I grab the whole frigging box. That’s right. The whole box. And I wasn’t finished.
Due to the Kitchy-​ness of the store I also picked up a cheap cigarette holder and some Shakespeare Insult gum for my husbands Professor. And some more British Chocolate. Shut up.
Excellent store. I prefer the Bedford Location over the Downtown location simply because I’m taking the (Un-​come on!)necessary flaw of children with the Bedford locale over the scenester/​teenaged shit faces at the location down town. Reality: Both stores are super fun and come highly recommended by me. Your trusted too much information Unilocal reviewer.

Even though the Bedford Highway Freak Lunchbox location is far further out of my neighbourhood than the store on Barrington it is my primary candy destination.
The store is simply bigger and carries more stock and variety of delicacies that there isn’t room enough to display at the downtown location. The amount of free space and light compared to the other location makes Freak Lunchbox look less like a neon eye sore and more let’s the novelty of the products speak for themselves.
At either location the goal of the Freak Lunchbox franchise is to find «(the) weirdest, newest and hippest candy and pop culture items on the market» and they achieve that and more. Knick knacks, gifts collect ables and of course CANDY, for a pretty good price.

You have to love the fact that you can now have access to Two of the Best Places to go for Candy. The Freak Lunchbox Second location is great.
It has the same as the first but more for us, PARKING!!!
For that, I will go hear again, also, Bedford has a nice appeal for me. We always hit the Pete’s while here.
What can I say, candy, candy and more candy.

Many of us are familiar with the downtown Freak Lunchbox, but did you know there’s another one? A Bigger one with a more candy and a huge ace up its sleeve?
Ladies and Gentlemen, The Freak Lunchbox in Bedford, home of the delicious Freak Lunch Box Milkshake. Probably the best milk shake I’ve ever had, no fooling.
The store is a little bigger than the downtown location, but generally features the exact same candies and ambiance. Don’t go out of your way unless you’re looking for the milkshake… in which case go as far out of your way as you have to because you will not regret it!
My personal favorite is the chocolate milkshake (because I’m very adventurous), but they all look and (so my partners in crime tell me) taste delicious. Well worth the trip and well worth your time, be sure to stop by this lunchbox the next time you stop into the traditional stopping place that is Bedford.
