Ok food. Ok service. Greasy food. I had a Greek omelette and my husband had a ham and cheese omelette. The servings were huge. You get what you get. Boring breakfast I have to say. If you love carbing up come here.

We endured a 45 minute wait at our table for breakfast this morning, AFTER a 15 minute wait just to order and get coffee! Sub-par service — they are not prepared, and obviously short-staffed. The food is good, but not THAT good! We couldn’t find our server and asked another to find out about our order. She had quite an attitude and made it clear that we weren’t HER customers.(Short-sighted, if you ask me!) We did get our meal eventually, but hardly noticed its taste for the frustration. Our server did apologize after we complained, and he discounted our bill, which was appreciated. But who wants to pay ANYTHING at all for such a lousy experience? For the little bit of extra money it will cost you to have a satisfying meal and experience — go to Cora’s.

Not bad for a general breakfast place, decent price and good service. Cheaper than Cora’s, for approximately the same meal, minus the fussy little bits of fruit on the side. The main problem I had was the noise — I expect a busy place to be a bit noisy, but I have a decibel meter on my phone, and the place registered at between 80 and 90 db throughout the meal, the same level as «factory machinery at 3 ft» says my meter. There’s no reason to be yelling to each other at a small table just to hear. Sound baffling — a bit of fabric hung on the walls or glued under tables — can be an easy retrofit and would greatly enhance the experience.

I’ve come to this Sunset Grill a few times on my way up north and for Saturday at breakfast time(around 9am) we’ve always gotten a table here and have always had fast service. The strange thing was though that even though my group could always get a table for four no problem, there’s usually a big group of people standing right in the entrance who are presumably waiting for a larger group table to open up. None of that is obvious of course, if you see a bunch of people you’re first instinct is to wait behind them. The problem I had was there wasn’t anybody watching the line, asking how large of a group we were, or guiding people. It we didn’t just walk in front of the large group we would have been waiting for a while. A strange but real problem I have at Sunset grill is that at a table for four, we can barely put all of our food on the table. With three people we have some space, but at four we have to combine plates and send empty ones back. Hell, I just want to eat breakfast, not go into crisis mode! I also don’t like how you have to pay at the front, I’d rather just leave my cash on the table and be on my way. On the plus side, because you have to go to the front to pay, I’ve never gotten people giving you your bill and rushing you out of the restaurant. Lastly, even though I’ve come a few times when it wasn’t super busy, I found myself waiting for a coffee refill longer than I should have been. Aside from all that, the food always comes hot, which is one of the few biggies for me, and it tastes fine. The two stars mostly come from the lack of table space and the«just ok» service, the food is fine.

Marooned in south Barrie while my car was being worked on, and in dire need of something more substantial than Tim H or McD’s…lo and behold, this was withing walking distance of the car dealership… good variety on standard breakfast fare(yeah, that’s kinda contradictory, I know). Services was polite and reasonably attentive(they lost 1 star for forgetting my orange juice), prices are in line with others in this genre. All in all, a good place for a basic b’fast or lunch!
