Beautiful store. All the same goodness of MEC in an Eco-friendly store. Always love stopping here enroute to the cottage.

Very low stock on mountain bikes. Go to mec if you are looking for children’s bikes that’s about all they have.

I’ve been a MEC member for many years now and used to frequent the store on King Street in Toronto. The Barrie store, while smaller than Toronto, still carries a good assortment of products and has had everything I’ve needed. The staff is top notch– very helpful, engaging, and friendly.

I’m a big fan of MEC. The store is a mecca for the outdoorsmen. What sets MEC apart from other outdoor stores is the knowledge of the staff and the variety. It’s a bit on the expensive side, but it’s also quite reasonable for the category. This new location opened up in Barrie. I’m used the downtown King location, so i thought i’d head up to Barrie and check the new store out. Overall, you get the staple service/knowledge/layout of the downtown MEC. The negative is that you don’t get as big a selection but you do get most of the basics. The positive is, you don’t have to pay for parking. If you’re en route up north, this is a convenient stop off highway 400 away from the traffic, parking, mission issues of the King Street.

If you’re an outdoor enthusiast, you’ll love this place. It’s not as big as the Toronto MEC, but still has a diverse inventory to suit most outdoor needs. It is a Co-Op so you can’t shop there unless you are a member, which costs $ 5. The building was built with the environment in mind — it’s as green as it gets! Customer service is great, there are lots of people around to help you find things and I’ve never waited more than 2 – 3 minutes in the checkout line. They have everything from cheap camping accessories for a backyard campfire to fairly serious(and expensive) backpacking/interior camping gear. They have a large range of clothing, backpacks, sleeping bags, tents, canoe gear and a bike repair shop.
