The Avenue Cakery & Bakeshoppe

Ordering a cake from The Avenue Cakery & Bakeshoppe has been an ambition of mine for awhile because their facebook galleries are full of amazing work just like you see on the reality shows. Last night I held a «Back to the Future”-themed party that provided the perfect excuse!
I wanted to be blown away when I saw the DeLorean cake for the first time, and I so completely was! And then all my friends were astounded as well; The flair and charm with which the iconic movie car was translated into adorable cake is truly amazing and delightful.
And get this: When I went to pick up the cake and asked to take a photo with the talented genius Alyssa who made the DeLorean, she told me no one had ever asked that before! How could you see a cake like that and not slobber all over the artist who made it?
I am completely over-​the-​moon thrilled with the cake/​art I purchased and I can’t recommend the bakery enough to anyone who wants a cool custom cake or just some delicious treats — they do everything!

Amazing Bakery ! I stop in every time I need a delicious treat! The cupcakes are to die for ! I recently got a Lamborghini cake made for my husbands birthday. I gave them 4 photos of the car & on the day of the party it was delivered right on time and … It was AMAZING ! Everyone loved it & took pictures! I’m so pleased and would recommend the avenue to everyone ! … Now I’m thinking of getting myself some cupcakes … Lol

Very rarely am I ever in Airdrie but there happen to be a Crossfit competition held at a gym located there this past weekend. I had a few friends competing so I drove down to watch. When I showed up, they were on a lunch break and I swear Alanna read my mind. She mentioned Avenue Bakery and my eyeballs almost popped out of my eye sockets because that’s exactly what was on my mind and has been on my mind for quite some time. Six of us crammed into one car, google mapped the bakery and headed on over.
Apparently if you follow google maps, it doesn’t take you exactly where the bakery is. We got a little confused with the area it was in but eventually sniffed our way to Avenue. Pulling up, I was shocked as the parking lot was empty but there was a lady coming out with a cake. I was debating whether I should jump her or just go into the bakery myself. I’m thankful I made the right decision to go into the bakery because I was amazed by how much goodies were on display. Places like Avenue get me sooOoOoOOO excited I can hardly contain myself — I love love little bake shoppes for all the sweet homemade goodness and wish they had more places like this in Calgary.
I think I admired the display for about 20 minutes. To the left there is a display of loaves, cinnamon buns, pies, cookies ETC. and the main display had all the cupcakes, STUFFED cupcakes, cheesecakes, squares, cake balls ETC. I knew I wanted to try the stuffed cupcakes because coworkers and friends have been really raving about them. I was going to order 5, 4 to go and eat one right there but there was some deal, I think buy 6 get one free — something of that sort. Anyway, I declined and just went with four, only because I knew I would eat them all. in one sitting. I ordered a chocolate cheesecake cup, stuffed oreo cupcake, german chocolate cake, and rolo cupcake. I also got a salty caramel bar so I could save the cupcakes til I got home to share. I actually wanted to buy everything on display but I know that would be bad bad news. Everyone else got some stuffed cupcakes as well.
The salty caramel bar was like a chocolate brownie with some salted caramel and some condensed milk glaze, it was ok — it was put in a little bag and it got all sticky, I should have eaten it right away. I really couldn’t believe that I didn’t touch any of the cupcakes till after I got home, it was really tough but I did it! The cupcakes had been sitting at room temperature for some time before I got to them. First, I cut the oreo cupcake in half, YUM. The chocolate cake was super moist and the filling was a light oreo cream. The german chocolate cake was wonderful, I really love the filling, nice light coconut flavor with a little crunch from the nuts. The chocolate cheesecake cup was heavenly. A layer of chocolate cake, then cheesecake, dolloped with chocolate cream covered with chocolate, it felt super light and airy and tasted great. My least favorite of the batch was the rolo. Don’t get me wrong, I really enjoyed all of them but the icing on top of the rolo was rich and thick, it would have been great if it was as smooth as the oreo cream but the caramel filling was really good!
When I get cupcakes, I like getting a mix of chocolate cake and vanilla cake but I found that there were only a few flavors with vanilla cake and I wasn’t feelin’ fruity. My suggestion would be to make each flavor with the two different cakes, it could be a good thing! Oh! And I found that letting the cupcakes sit at room temperature as opposed to straight from the fridge is much better and moist.
Confession time: IMHO, these cupcakes are the best cupcakes, even better than Crave cupcakes =O okay okay I said it… Avenue bakery is AMAZEBALLS. I would definitely say that Avenue Bakery is worth the drive if you’re in Calgary.

Great little local bakery that everyone raves about~ I thought I would give it a try and since I was hosting an upcoming baby shower it was the perfect opportunity.
I thought I had left plenty of time prior to the event to get 2 dozen custom cupcakes made. Enough time for cupcakes, yes. Enough for custom cupcakes, nope. I was pretty disappointed since I have seen their beautiful cake designs. But I guess it was my mistake.
I ordered both vanilla and chocolate cupcakes and they dressed them with a light blue icing for the celebration theme. I took them home and decorated them myself with supplies from a craft store. I must have saved some money not having them custom done which was a blessing in disguise since I didn’t ask the price when I ordered them and was shocked (knock me over with a feather kind of shock) when I paid. But again I didn’t ask when I ordered so once again, my fault.
The cupcakes were a hit at the party with many people giving their compliments. I would have passed them off as my own except there was the bakery box evidence that I did not dispose of ;-)
To summarize, I didn’t get what I wanted and had to pay the gross domestic product of a small country to get it, both being my own fault and lesson learned. BUT everyone loved the cupcakes (I can’t review the taste as I don’t like cupcakes and didn’t eat one) and that is ultimatley what matters most.

Great little gem of a bakery. Lemon meringue pie is the best. Added feature of gluten free items. Go in the am for the freshest and best selection of products.

Def get bang for your buck! Yes, there a tad expensive but totally worth it.
Got a variety pack, including Team Canada decortated! Which was awesome because today the womens hockey won GOLD!
I myself had the oreo! So delicious. My Co-​Worker had the chocolate mint, and quote «better then sex» !

Super delicious! Bought half doz cupcakes. I just asked for a variety. I had the sweet potatoe. It was the best cupcake I’ve ever had. And I’ve had Sprinkles at The Grove.
They had a great assortment of slices and squares. This will defiantly be my go to for fab cupcakes and baked goods.
It was worth the drive from Calgary.

This is the nicest little bake shop. The owner is super sweet, and she is so generous within the community. I am married to a baker, and he thinks the cupcakes and other goodies are so delicious! The cakes are amazing and I can’t wait to see how my daughters’ cakes look that I ordered for their birthdays!

I love the taste of their cupcakes, however the designs are lacking… very childish and all over the place. Their cake designs are amazing!
